The Willows is a friendly, clean and homely B&B. From the outside it looks small, but looks can be deceiving as inside this is a large two storey dwelling. Staff are friendly and on hand should you require anything. Bathroom facilities are shared, but this was never a problem for us, so you shouldn't worry about this. Continental Breakfast was...

We traveled to San Fran for a long weekend and stayed in the Castro so we could be in the middle of everything but not pay the expensive rates. Our stay was amazing. The Inn was super clean and the guys were so friendly, and the breakfast was the best I've ever had for a self-serve. They had so many...

We've stayed here 24 nights over the years; that should tell you something. Right where the MUNI lines cross, pubic transport easy to access anywhere in the city, use a Clipper card. This October was for our wedding, and when we returned to our room, the staff had brought us a beautiful cake to commemorate the occasion, also some wine...

Cannot speak highly enough about the staff at The Willows. Very friendly and very helpful and really makes the stay here memorable. The location is fantastic and the rooms homely rather than stuffy or sterile. A good choice of foods for breakfast each morning as well as teas and coffees available throughout the day. Drinks at 6pm for those interested...

I spent five nights at the Willows a week ago. The place was like a home away from home. The staff was very welcoming and the other guests charming. If shared shower and toilet facilities scare you off, don’t be. They were immaculate (probably a lot cleaner than mine at home). The breakfast wasn't fancy but more than enough to...

This is a hidden gem. We could not have picked a better place. We were planning our honeymoon vacation and were stuck for a place to stay. We finally checked the reviews and booked the willows. Mark was very helpful and accomodating. From the minute we got there, it was apparent the hotel was excellent. Little touches like ghirardelli chocolate,...

This is an excellent B&B right in the Castro. Staff are professional and friendly. Rooms are comfortable and well-maintained. There's an excellent breakfast and we met other travellers from around the world while staying here. The location is especially great. First, you can take the F or J (street car or metro) to get downtown or pretty much anywhere very...

We stayed with the lads a wk ago, on arrival exterior didn't look promising, but a different story when we got inside. Before we arrived Mike and the lads sent us clear instructions on how to get to the address and also enter the building. Lovely place and top marks to the lads spotless, like as stated by others no...

We booked here last minute as our prior place fell through (long story!). Mike and the gang were quick at responding and help facilitate our needs last minute. The place is a reasonable price for a very expensive San Francisco and even though the rooms were not ensuite we never had to wait for a toilet or shower. The place...

Staying in The Castro

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
