We really enjoyed our stay at the Central House. The owner was friendly. It was in a Great location. We coukd walk into the village. The room was perfect, had a comfy bed. Close to Acadia National park entrance. We loved Bar Harbor and would recommend The Central house.

The Central House is an old Victorian house that's now a hotel. Hence, the decor was appropriate and charming. We'd requested a top floor room (room #302), but my husband and I are both 6 ft tall. Ouch ... we both hit our heads on the ceiling at least once. Also, no Internet connection on the third floor, so if...

Thank you so much for your review. We installed a "mesh" wifi system several years ago so that guests can pick up wifi in every room of the inn. However, the internet service was interrupted -- not internally, but due to something outside with the provider -- when it was very windy. This may well have been the problem when...

The Central House was a good location. Reasonable price and you could walk everywhere. Didn't need a car unless you left area. If it is raining you can just cross the street to eat and the food was awesome. Just can't remember the name of the Restaurant across the street. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and the bake goods for...

The Central House is well located for walking around Bar Harbor. Our room on the 3rd floor was small but priced right for the area. This location needs some updating on the upper floors and it is an old building so it is not sound proof nor centrally climate controlled. While the room was surface clean, it would benefit from...

Thank you for staying with us and for your review. We are sorry about the splatter behind the sink, and wish you had brought this to our attention while you were here. Our housekeepers try to be very thorough and, if one forgot something, both we and she would want to know (and correct it right then). Individually-controlled, wall-mounted heat...

The interior is clean and the rooms are reasonably comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was pitiful, barely adequate to rinse off. The rooms are not individually heated, some rooms boil while others are cold. Our bathroom was so hot that the metal fixtures were hot to the touch. The parking is not adequate for the number of rooms....

We enjoyed these guests and thank them for staying with us, although Central House was not the right fit. 1 -- The reviewer's statement, "the parking is not adequate for the number of rooms," is incorrect. We have fifteen parking spaces -- six in front (four paved, two grassed), and nine in back. There are fourteen spaces for fourteen guest...

Came into Bar Harbor without a reservation and a woman at the visitors center recommended Central House. Very nice and in a great location right in Bar Harbor. Very basic but priced accordingly. We looked at a few rooms--not large and some had funky configurations but still very nice. Downstairs very welcoming with nice lounge areas. Beth (I think that's...

Staying here is like staying at the home of a very old aunt. One who has a nice, clean, quaint, old fashioned house where things creak and the place is as quirky as the lady herself :) Central House offers you a clean and comfortable place to rest your weary self after a day of exploring Acadia. Management is friendly...

Older home three floors could use updating. However very clean and wonderful staff. Convenient to town resturants. Breakfast is not served, however, there is a cute bakery/restaurant across the street. A Keriug with an abundant coffee and tea supply are complimentary.

Came up here for our 5th wedding anniversary and loved it. Stayed in room 206, and loved it. Big comfy bed, nice size room, and the bathroom was just fine. It's at the end of the hallway, so only neighbors on one side. No breakfast but we didn't want that! We wanted to go out for breakfast, and just have...

A charming Inn right on a main street with lovely front porch but tight parking. Beth was very friendly and accommodating but several requests for towels or bath mats did not bring much results. It took a search to finally get them. Our room was on the main floor as requested but was quite tight quarters..not much room to get...

Thank you so much for staying with us and for your review. We are sure sorry about those towels! Our housekeeper and I realized, too late, that either I was dyslexic in giving her your room number or she was in hearing it -- because she went twice to the wrong room. When the mistake was realized, you had already...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Central House was built as a guest house in 1887. Tourism was just getting started in Bar Harbor. Much has changed since then and The Central House is now right down the street from many Bar Harbor shops, tours, restaurants, and the Island Explorer shuttle bus to Acadia National Park and Sand Beach. We offer Maine-roasted coffee and a selection of teas at 8 o'clock every morning. While we do not serve food, we provide a $10.00 gift card per room per day to lunch and dinner favorite Geddy's Restaurant facing the harbor. Our living room, front porch, and coffee area provide comfortable places to sit and enjoy your own food and drink and wireless internet is complementary throughout the house. Our rooms are simple and cozy with A/C, cable TV, and private bathrooms. Each room is uniquely furnished and decorated and many returning guests reserve their favorite rooms year after year. Rooms have a queen-sized bed, except Room 206 with a king-sized bed, and Room 204 has an extra twin-sized bed in addition to the four-posted queen to comfortably sleep three. We have been told by many guests that they find The Central House is a great value for the charm and ideal location. We hope to hear from you this season! ... more   less
