I am one of those folk who read the horrible reviews first. Whatever. In doing so, I got really nervous about this resort. Im writing this after 6 nights. We are having an AMAZING time here. We arrived, not knowing what to expect. It was a fairly spur of the moment trip. Bar was set pretty low. Our room was an ocean view, one bedroom. We got it at a discount through a third party site. We have been coming to Kaanapali for 30 years with our kids, and have stayed primarily at the Westin, tho we have stayed at pretty much every resort here. We absolutely loved our room. It overlooks the pool and the ocean. We have 2 balconies. The room is clean, with new carpet. The bed is very comfortable, with a great comforter. There is a pullout couch in the main room, and two bathrooms. The kitchen has a sink, microwave. refrigerator and dishwasher, but no stove or oven. There is a community kitchen on the first floor, we did not take advantage of it. The pool is incredible. There are now alot of chairs, but they really do monitor if you are gone more than an hour. If so, they remove your stuff. The beach situation: In front of the hotel, there is a beach, though narrow. There is a washed up yacht on it's side. Hope somebody does something with it. You can access the beach if you go towards the Alllii. People are sitting on the sand with small chairs. Even before the swell, the beach here wasnt great as there are alot of rocks in the shallow water. Your best bet is to access the beach and walk along the beach to the front of the Westin, where the water is best. That is where everyone swims. The beach walk itself is broken up, because the actual concrete in front of the Allii fell into the water. They wont allow anyone to walk on Allii property towards the rest of the beach walk. Your options are either to walk towards the street and around the Allii that way, or to go on the beach, for 197 steps til you get to the edge of the Westin, where you can re access the beach walk. At night there is good lighting on the beach, so you wont step into a hole. We really like this place. Staff are kind. There are a lot of littles running around, but no more so than other resorts here in Kaanapali. I actually thought of posting this with one star, so that folks like me who only read the bad reviews would see this, and be encouraged. Seriously, we really like this place and would return in a heartbeat.

Hotel's Favourite
My family of 6 stayed in the Lanai tower, oceanfront, two bedroom with adjoining studio room for 6 nights. The condo was in great condition, comfortable beds, plenty of space and great quality furnishings/bedding. The kitchen was well stocked as we used it for three dinners during our week stay. The grounds were beautiful, multiple pools to choose from - the ones closest to the building were more low keyed, and the main pool was large with lots options for fun. The view was fantastic off our balcony and it was also very comfortable with seating and table. Walk way to Whalers Village was busy but convenient to get to shops and food. We only heard noise a few times from the rooms above, and although near the elevators as all ocean front are in the building, never heard noise from the hallway. We didn't use any food services except for Starbucks but there were many options, with the main restaurant (believe it's Longhis) set to open/reopen after our trip ended. Amenities were great, Safeway 10 minutes away to load up our kitchen, and we weren't lacking for anything. Really easy to get to Lanai or take advantage of sailing right off the beach. Only Cons: The parking garage was an adventure every day (tight turns is an understatement) and our master shower could have used some Tilex.

We just returned from a blissful week at Marriott Ocean Club. We are Worldmark owners and traded thru Interval. My husband is a Marriott Titanium Elite member due to his work travel, but as we all know, status is not typically recognized thru MVC, and I expected that. He was not present at checkin (arriving later on) and I checked in, no problems. I live in Wa state and my childhood BFF from RI flies out to see me for a week in Wa and then we go to Hawaii for a week. In the past, I've always traded into Ko Olina (also thru II) and have never had a problem getting that resort in the 60 day frame. This year I was concerned at the way travel had exploded, and although we've always enjoyed Ko Olina, we threw MOC in there to improve our chances on a last minute trade. I started a search at the 60 day mark for a 2 bedroom and was matched within a couple days. I did check the no kitchen facilities necessary, and that... along with the time of year may have helped me to get that trade so quickly. We arrived around 6pm, and after reading many reviews, I had resigned myself to not get a great view as we were trading thru II. While we really enjoy the view and spend most of our time at the resort, I made the decision to not let it ruin my trip. Just before leaving I read about the Beachwalk being washed away and I was pretty bummed about that. In essence, I was wondering if I'd made a mistake trading into Maui, rather than Oahu. We were checked in by (I want to say Lisa, but I could be wrong), and it was great. She thanked us for being Titanium elite and said we had an ocean view room in the Maui tower (3034/35). I was notably surprised and excited, and said I hadn't really expected that and had decided to be happy with whatever we were given. It was at that moment, a gentleman (Marriott staff) popped his head around the corner, and said he'd been overhearing... he loved my attitude and just wanted to say that! We all had a good laugh and it was a fun, upbeat way to start off the vacation. Off we went to our rooms. 3rd floor, ocean and pool view. Lovely. We were very excited. The rooms were spacious and we didn't miss the stove top at all. We had a toaster for breakfast, and a microwave to heat up leftovers from restaurants. 3 bathrooms, the higher end Malle bath products. Zero complaints. Loved the room and location. Parts of the Beachwalk were washed out, but there is still beach. We went down 50 or 100 feet and enjoyed the beach. We rented sand chairs for $25 for the week and thought that was a great deal. We ate at the pool bar (good) and Longhis (overpriced for below average food), and a few places on the Beachwalk (all good). We drove to Lahina and snooped around the beaches on the west and south. Mostly, we hung at the resort, enjoying the pool and our great view :) The staff here were professional, friendly and kind. Everyone we came in contact with from maintenance people to bar tenders to housekeepers..... very personable, outgoing and helpful. This stood out to us. We've never had bad service at Ko Olina, but the bar was set here. We also had a mid-week refresh which was unexpected and appreciated. Thank you, for providing us with a beautiful facility, with a wonderful staff. We had a glorious week! Jennifer & Philip Maillet

There are pros and cons to this club. But there are a few really important things you need to know, and ESPECIALLY if you aren’t an owner but book here thru Marriott, because you won’t be notified on their website or in advance of getting here. (1) If you are a beach person, this is NOT the resort for you. Namely because, the beach access situation is extremely volatile, coming and going with little notice. As of our stay October 2022 there had been a big storm in July 2022, and the only beach access was down by the northernmost Napilli tower. The other areas of the restorer have no beach access, and the central tower has construction barricades lining the ocean view. There is also a capsized boat on the shore, that has yet to have been removed since the July storm. Furthermore, the Napilli beach, while decently sized at the time of our visit, can be underwater at any given time. Apparently this is a characteristic of Ka’anapali, as the name means “changing sands”, and they have major beach erosion issues not yet dealt with by the state of Hawaii. But the hotel photos definitely show plenty of walking beach, and that is definitely not always the case, in fact at this point, I would just expect that the beach situation is pretty dismal (2) If you are returning to this property or area, you will likely have spent nights walking the beach walk north to Whalers village. A large chunk of the beach walk was washed away in the July storm, so this is no longer possible without a 10 minute detour around the Alli hotel, our to the street and then back again. The beach walk situation appears to be getting worse before it gets better. Again, a state of Hawaii issue, so the hotels will not notify you of beach situation or beach walk situation, but it is a situation and could make for a disappointing surprise if you booked expecting them. (3) The central towers (molokai, maui and lanai) HAVE been updated, but I would classify it as more of a “refresh” than a true renovation. The age of that building and those units shows thru. This is NOT true of the Napilli/Lahaina towers reserved for timeshare owners. Those rooms are truly updated. The rooms are hard to distinguish online, because their photography is good for both. But we stood in both and hands down the Napilli and Lahaina towers are MUCH nicer. You can book those towers as a non owner though, and I would suggest that. Little further walk to the main pool, but rooms make up for it. (4) I would not do a paid stay here. We came on a promotional offer since we are Bonvoy titanium and they wanted to try to sell us a timeshare. Our kids had fun in the pool, the pirate ship was a hit for our 4 year old boy and we did enjoy ourselves. But if I had dropped $6000 to stay in the molokai tower where we stayed I would have not felt this was a great value. And I thought the beach and beach walk situation definitely hurt the kaanapali area vs Wailea. Personally, if I were booking again and wanted to do Kaanapali, I would stay at a resort north of the Alli so that the beach walk element was there. Easy walks up to dinner and back. If you are looking for the best pool on the island that your kids will freak out over though, head down to the Grand Wailea in Wailea. Epic experience there for the kids and beautiful luxe area. As an aside, if you are invited down to peruse a timeshare like we were - take them up on it. My review is based on if I was paying what it costs to stay here as a non owner, but by all means don’t let this review dissuade you from a nearly free vacation. Just know what you’re going to, BUT, I would STRONGLY advise against even considering purchasing into the vacation club points system. We had a near miss here where the sales guys blatantly lied to us and told us that our Titanium status got us a slew of benefits inside the MVC system. We were surprised to hear this and actually nearly signed because of it. That is until we got the contract and asked to see the portion of the contract where Titanium level bonvoy members received Chairman status and got a slew of upgrades including suite upgrades even if they bought at the lowest tier or 1500 points. Of course they couldn’t product it, because it was a lie, but that had told us this so we would sign and then it was going to be. a bait and switch situation where we joined the club, paid nearly $20,000 and then found out that our status meant nothing and we were at the bottom tier with no perks and no upgrades. I still can’t believe how blatant the lies were. SO, if you go sit thru their presentation, I don’t care WHAT you are told, I would 100% treat the MVC crew the same way you would a con artist. Assume lies, and unearth truth inside of the contract. Do not get bamboozled by what you are told verbally. Ensure everything is in writing on your contract before you sign anything. After our experience, I would never sign with this club. I can’t imagine how many people have been misled by any number of lies if they were willing to be so bold faced about the one they told us. It truly was proof that they will say anything to get you to sign, and it will be your problem later to deal with. Buyer beware!

The good news it’s a nice property with a great staff. The bad is the Lanai tower is old and worn out. We arrived via interval international as Marriot Owners. As we traveled to the room the carpet is torn and replaced with tape and spotted. Entering the room, we can see it has had many travelers. The dresser while functional has seen better days. The couch is your typical uncomfortable hotel furniture. And the WIFI at best is spotty to slow. The efficiency kitchen is poorly designed with limited space and tools. Bathroom is standard with nothing special to write about. We got to tour the new towers with a lock off that was 100% better in the use of space and design.I would definitely ask for the tower.

We stayed October 26-29. Enjoyed the room, amenities. We really enjoyed the Pool, and the pool bar and restaurant. The only downside was the lack of access to the beach due to previous storms. We might not have stayed if we were informed previous to booking due to this. Otherwise we liked the property and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

Lanai Tower in disrepair and be aware there is no beach really. Lovely property. Busy area. Just select your tower carefully. The beach is gone because of a swell. We like Hawaii properties where you don’t have to drive a lot. Here you have to drive to different beaches. So it’s not as relaxing. I’ve uploaded some pictures of the hallways in Lanai. First world problems really. But just to be aware.

Please be alerted that there is no beach. There was a swell and beach access is closed. When I heard about this and called, they told me you could go to the beach, but it is small. This is not the case. You just walk down to the Sheraton, partly via the road. It’s fine, but not what I expected at beach front resort. Also the Lanai Tower is very very dated. The rooms are not bad, but the public areas have taped up carpet areas etc. Just not to Marriott standards. It’s quite sad.

We have been Marriott Vacation Club owners since 2005. We have visited this property almost every year since then. When our sons were young, we all looked forward to our “home away from home” every year. Our youngest son even proposed to his now wife here in 2019. The main selling point when we purchased our ownership (which is a luxury most families cannot afford) was that the Marriott was different from “timeshares” and that we would be treated like family and as we upgraded our ownership…our experience is upgraded. Most of that was true until the last 5 years or so. When the Marriott started buying up other companies, like the Westin…our experience started to change. Booking time at our resort became extremely difficult. Even though we had achieved President’s status, we have been afforded little if any help trying to book the vacations we desired. Our trip this year is the latest example of our problems with MVC. 11 months ago we booked three nights in Maui and four nights in Waikoloa. Since April, we have been trying to combine those nights into six nights on Maui because our plans had changed. Even though we could see that 2 bedroom units were available on the Marriott.com website, we were told those were for “paying” customers and not available to owners. Trust me…with the maintenance fees we pay every year…we are paying customers. Obviously, Marriott has oversold ownership or does not make enough inventory available to owners because they want to make more profit per room. Who knows. This week when we checked into the Maui Ocean Club at 2:30 pm, the woman at the desk would not check me in without my husband. I was mortified as I stood with our friends and tried to explain I was the one who made the reservation and that my name is also on our ownership. She said she could not check us in until my husband presented his driver’s license. My husband was dealing with our bags and car…so I stood there embarrassed until he could come to the front desk. Then we were to,d our room was not ready, but was guaranteed to be ready by 4:00 pm. We went to the pool bar and had a cocktail until 4:00 pm. When we went back to get our keys, we were told our room wasn’t ready and they didn’t know when it would be and we were told to wait in the Lobby. We waited about 15 minutes and I then asked for a time we could go to our room. I was told we could go to the “lock off” portion of our room. That was not acceptable to us. Were all four of us supposed to just sit on our friend’s bed? We could not unpack or settle in. Ridiculous. I spoke to the manager and even though he was nice and gave us a meager hotel credit…there was no resolution until close to 5 pm. Am I to believe that if there was a problem with the room they assigned to us, there was no other room available? The resort is not that full. In addition, when we made our reservations 11 months ago, we requested the Napili Tower. Our room is in Lahaina. It is a completely fine room, but not our preference. All of this is to say…why should ANYONE pay 10s of thousands of dollars for Marriott Ownership? Please don’t. It is a waste of money and will be a big frustration for you because all of the expectations the sales teams set for you will not be realized. As I said, we were very satisfied the first decade…Marriott Vacation Club service and perks have been downhill from there. We’re not sure what we are going to do with our ownership moving forward…but, even though Maui is paradise on earth, the way the Marriott has made me feel this trip is a little heartbreaking. To think that giving me $100 hotel credit makes everything okay is just sad. The Marriott no longer cares.
