We rented our 1 bedroom partial ocean view condo via Expedia and absolutely loved our unit. It was very spacious (1500sf), with plenty of room for our family of 4 (includes 2 teens). The master bedroom had a king sized bed, and the queen bed was in a den with a sliding door, which was perfect for our daughters. The kitchen was fully equipped and had really nice appliances. We had a washer and dryer in the unit too, which comes in very handy when you spend your days hiking, surfing and snorkeling! The location was also perfect - couldn't have asked for better. It was in between the Westin and the Hyatt, and was a 5 min walk to Whaler's Village and Starbucks (when we needed our morning fix). There were no restaurants on site but there are SO many amazing restaurants around us. There was no shortage of great food. The pool was also really nice - we enjoyed a couple of days lazing around. Overall, a fantastic stay. Would love to stay here again when we're in Maui next.

The Kanapalii Alii are individually owned condos. On our last visit we rented a bright, modern gorgeous unit. This time the unit was dark, with uncomfortable furniture and a very uncomfortable bed. Thr carpeting was stained and needed replacing.. I think it all depends on the unit you get on how satisfied you will be.

Kaanapali Ali'i is perfection - location is fantastic (close to shops, ocean, black rock beach, restaurants, etc), has a GREAT pool, condos are HUGE and CLEAN - we had a one room ocean view that had a queen-sized murphy bed pullout in a separate room with a separate bathroom for my teenaged daughters while my husband and I had a king room. Also had washer and dryer which was key after hiking, swimming, snorkeling, etc. Walking distance from so many places. Staff was extremely friendly; our bellman upon arrival showed us everything about our room, helped us get wifi set up, gave us tips on Maui, even though it was late when we arrived, he took the time to make sure we were properly settled. LOVE THIS PLACE!

This place was a bit of a mystery, and I’m still not sure of some of the answers. Fully equipped kitchen does not include plastic bags, foil or Saran Wrap. Paper towels were provided but not napkins. We cooked in most of the week but had to constantly run to the store for what we expected would be in a normal kitchen. Spices vary by unit. During the past week (July 11-18), cleaning occurred only once during the week. They will let you know the window and give you a choice of start times. Still not sure of the check out procedure. We had an early flight and left before the office opened. Ask at check in for a copy of what you are signing - I expected it to be in the packet with the keys but never saw it again. Ask for check out information and an inventory of your unit so there are no surprises. Hotel website states grills have paper plates, utensils, and foil available, but when I asked I was told these were removed due to COVID. Still puzzled why COVID would result in removal of disposable products. If you want to eat looking at the beach or grounds, you will need to pack up your heavy kitchen plates, silverware and glassware and take it down and bring it back up. Not sure of the charges for lost or broken dish ware - we didn’t risk it. Towels available only in exchange for a towel card and lost cards are $25. Expect to pay for beach umbrellas or beach equipment but pool side lounges are free. You will need to reserve poolside umbrellas in advance. They will inflate toys for you but they are supposed to remain in the ocean and not be used in the pool. We stayed in a two bedroom - ocean front and it was probably more space than we needed (family of 4). Master bedroom was very large and you could have thrown a queen size air mattress on the floor and still had plenty of floor space. Kids room had two double beds. Plenty of hanging space in the closets. Two folding chairs in the closet were an unexpected bonus. Our unit had lots of cleaning supplies for the granite but nothing for the glass table tops or stove top. Washer and dryers in unit did have laundry soap so unless picky, you don’t need to buy or bring. Quick responses to call for maintenance (change water filter in fridge) and take out trash before housekeeping day. Rooms do have travel toiletries like a hotel but not replaced daily. Much has been said about the small pools but it kept our kid happy. I don’t think he was aware of the massive water complex at the hotel next door or we might have had problems. Would love to stay here again but during a non COVID and friendlier time.

The Good: Pool and beach staff, as well as the concierge, are very helpful and friendly. Same with the grounds and housekeeping staff. We also encountered a number of really friendly guests, not those stuffy people who won’t even say hello when you pass them in the elevator, etc. I wish we would’ve known more about the amenities offered by the resort earlier in our stay as we would have utilized those resources more. Great location on Kaanapali beach - close to Whaler’s Village. Property was fairly quiet, easy to get up and down elevators, etc. Our unit was very spacious. The Bad: Front desk staff we encountered (three different people at three different times) were not friendly or helpful and at one point were downright rude. When we checked in we had to ask for a map of the property and where our unit was located. We were told a bellman would help us to our room but no one was around to help. No explanation of amenities offered by the concierge, available at the pool/beach, or even where the offices were located. We were on our own and felt like we were an annoyance to the staff. Our unit accommodated up to 6 people but we only had four sets of towels. Our other two encounters were equally as bad - one staff member couldn’t answer my question, just kept re-directing the conversation to avoid answering, and the other basically implied I was lying to her. We are really hands off tourists - we don’t ask for much and typically just mind our own business. It was disappointing that when we needed help, it felt like an annoyance.
