Absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend staying here. Run by Dan and Amy and it was an awesome mix of feeling like you were staying in a friend's beautiful guest home while having all the privacy you wanted. I was able to text Dan for beach chairs, and random questions and he was always quick to response. Also the guest house has four huge private rooms with patios and outdoor showers and its absolutely stunning. All Japanese architecture and decor. Beautiful view of Maui and the Pacific Ocean. The pool is gorgeous. And there's delicious breakfast served each morning if you want it. Also the location is perfect. It's tucked away up the mountainside, but an 8-minute drive to all the restaurants and shops from Lahaina. Beautiful beaches nearby. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
Stayed 4 nights for our wedding anniversary, and having experienced another accommodation in Wailea at the same period, we can honestly say Ho'oilo House is the best accommodation in Maui. Everything from the point of booking felt easy and reassuring. Dan was extremely responsive to emails before checking in, and even provided detailed check-in instructions about a week before arrival. Our room, Kipuka, was perfect. Good size, private and well equipped. Breakfast was made easy by being able to order up to 10pm the night before, and eating either in the room or the communal area. The food quality was also top notch. Overall a delightful stay, at a house ideally located close to Lahaina and its great restaurants and shops. This is away from the big resorts of Wilea so if you value privacy and comfort, Ho'oilo House is the perfect choice. Also, beaches along Lahaina are easier to access as it is easily doable to swim all day long, unlike along the Wailea coast that gets very windy from midday restricting the ability to enjoy an afternoon swim. Final shout out to Nancy who keeps Ho'oilo House in top condition and is extremely nice and approachable.…
We stayed at this beautiful bed & breakfast during our visit to Maui. Dan and his wife Amy, our hosts, live with their daughters in the house right behind the Ho'oilo House. The house is located uphill from Lahaina in a residential area which is kinda secluded, serene and quiet but it's a short drive away from the busier part of town. The B&B is adults only which makes for an even more relaxing stay. Our hosts were very helpful and attentive. When we arrived the front doors to the house were open and there was an envelope with a welcoming letter taped to the door for us. We made our way around the house then outside to the gorgeously manicured garden and pool area, and then to our room. I had an initial moment of shock when I realize there was no key to get into the suite and no way of locking our door upon leaving for the day but then I experienced the most liberating feeling when I realized I really didn't need to lock anything, the house is very safe and all of the other guests (which aren't that many since there's only 6 suites) respect each other's privacy and space. There is a safe in the suite however, if you need to store any valuable items. We stayed in the Kohola suite which was one of the two rooms with a view. Besides the amazing views (especially the sunset views which you may enjoy from your private lanai, from your bed or even while you shower!) the suite had a very comfortable bed, lots of comfortable pillows, an outside shower, a nice ivory stone tub, a small fridge and an electric kettle along with tea and instant Starbucks coffee. Due to COVID the continental breakfast is provided individually for each room as opposed to buffet style. We were asked to fill out a form the night before with our requests of items such as toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, granola, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, etc and our hosts would have breakfast ready for us at our requested time. We usually had breakfast by the pool but you can certainly take the tray to your room if you'd prefer a bit more privacy. Also due to COVID, they were not providing scheduled daily housekeeping service which was no bid deal, especially since if we needed any extra towels, coffee or toiletries all we needed to do is let Dan or Amy know and they would take care of it. We were also able to borrow beach chairs and a beach umbrella for the day, they were available on a first come first serve basis. Definitely recommend staying at the Ho'oilo house if you're looking for a stress free, serene, relaxing vacation.…
Recently stayed three nights in the Honu room and could not be more satisfied. The inn is decorated with antique furniture from Indonesia and from the moment you step inside you feel like you are staying in a luxury country home. The inn is beautifully set about a half mile up the slope of the mountain so you get a great view of the ocean looking toward Lanai. The location is also very convenient to seeing lots of other locations in Maui. A short drive north takes you to the resort area of West Maui. It’s also a fairly easy drive to the resorts of South Maui and Haleakala. The owner Dan is very helpful with suggestions and the house keeper Nancy was also so helpful. We had our breakfast by the pool every morning and also dinner when we got takeout. There are only six rooms so it’s very quiet and peaceful. We’ve stayed at many places around the world and this is one of our favorites.…
My first time to Maui and it will not be the last! This place was absolutely magical! We stayed the end of December though New Years and it was just what the doctor ordered! The two back rooms with outdoor showers are an absolute must! We loved the tranquility and quiet of a smaller B&B that allowed for our own private patio looking onto the water. The pool and outdoor spaces were great! On NYE, there were drinks and snacks as well as an amazing view of the fireworks. Hosts were phenomenal and honestly the best B&B we have ever had the pleasure of staying at! Thanks Amy and Dan! We will be back!
We stayed in the Akala Manu room, and loved it. The room was spacious, with a lovely lanai that had a partial ocean view and was in the shade in the morning. The lanai was too sunny for sitting out in the late afternoon, but the sun also made it a great place to dry our stuff after a day at the beach! The outdoor shower is marvelous. One evening I even got to see some of the sunset while showering. In the other direction you see the mountains from the shower. Heavenly! The BNB is very quiet, but Dan was easily accessible and was able to provide us with beach chairs and an umbrella when we asked. Breakfast was basic, but tasty. If you want to get away from all the tourist activity in Lahaina, and are willing to drive a bit, Ho’oilo House is a wonderful place to stay!
Our stay at Ho'oilo House was perfect. Great swimming pool to cool off in, the overall atmosphere was very relaxing in the common area, good breakfast with lots of options (also vegan options). The room itself was very clean and comfortable: good bed, nice terrace to relax on in the evening with beautiful view, the relaxing outdoor shower. The only minor thing was that the toilet was directly placed in the bathroom without a door, so not very private. Dan was a perfect host, we felt very welcome during our stay. Although a car is quite mandatory in general at Maui, you definitely need a car to reach the accomodation.
I would definitely would recommend this place if you're looking to get away from the big resort areas and have a quiet time. It is a wonderful little bed and breakfast in the hills above Lahaina. The view is, of course, incredible, and the house itself is very quaint and reminded us of the place we stayed in Bali. We stayed in the Wailele room which was plenty big and had a queen sized bed. Our lanai looked out onto the hills above, but also a bit onto the parking area, which was fine most of the time, but sometimes people do walk by and can see you. I saw a few reviews mention that there was no door to the toilet area, but rest assured this particular room does indeed have a toilet area with a door. We didn't have any lizards, frogs, cockroaches, or bugs in our room, save for the occasional small flying insect, but the lizards do love hanging around the property and it's fun to watch them, along with the other wildlife including magpies, chicken, doves, and the occasional cat. The continental breakfast every morning was always delicious and plentiful. Dan and his family are great hosts and are always accommodating and kind. We rarely ever heard or saw any of the other guests. The air conditioning worked great, and while the outdoor shower was more like a hose than a traditional showerhead, it worked fine. My main complaint is that our room did not have a key, and so, we could not lock the door when we left. There were no issues with theft or entry, but it was a bit nerve wracking to leave the room like that. The only other issue we had was that they had to do a few days of inspections which required the inspectors to have access to our room. Not my favorite, but I understand. Overall, it's a very charming place that is not typical of your usual big resort Hawaiian vacation.…
We stayed here for three days, it was very relaxing. Beautiful view, close to town, the room was so romantic and cute. The bathtub was to die for! And cute outdoor shower. The entire stay was so enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Where to begin?? My wife chose this bed and breakfast as our second location during our honeymoon, and for that I am forever grateful :) We arrived a few minutes before sunset and were blown away from the moment we approached the main entrance. The light, the architecture, the flow of the house - everything blew us away. We couldn't stop laughing with our minds blown. The staff was equally amazing. I spoke with Dan (owner) a few times and he was more than accommodating throughout our entire 4 night stay. Our room was perfect, the breakfast was healthy and delicious, and the private massage and chef option (shout out to Carrie and Chef Juan!) was incredible. If you're looking for a romantic touch, you will love the flower upgrade. There were some bugs, frogs, and geckos hanging out with us, but that's to be expected when you're nestled next to a giant jungle valley. They didn't bother us one bit. In fact we enjoyed their company. It was fun watching them hunt. The only thing that could have been better is if Dan was a Broncos fan :) JK, Dan. Worth every penny. 5 starts through and through! If you're on your honeymoon, book this place for a few nights and enjoy. The only regret you'll have is leaving.…
