We had a fantastic stay at the Westin Kaanapali North Villas. We so much appreciated the great service we received from everyone especially Alice-Lyn Malapira, Westin Front Desk Supervisor. Everyone on the resort staff was very helpful and positive. Mahalo for a great vacation.

I’ve checked out and am left with very mixed feelings about this hotel. As I write this I keep feeling worse. The good: The concierge team was exceptional. Every question was answered honestly. We even needed a last minute cancellation on an excursion and they got it taken care of for us. Really great work from them. The room was nice enough. Nothing luxurious but it was clean with a good size bathroom and kitchenette. It was quiet and we had a nice view from our garden suite. It was cleaned often enough too. The pool and fire pit were well maintained and made for a great nightly visit. The Starbucks/gift shop was nicely stocked. Not ABC quality, but better than a gas station. The bad: there is only one dining option at the hotel, and even that was only available two of the days we stayed. The restaurant/bar at the pool (only option) is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. That means the only choice for food is to leave the resort. This was disappointing to learn once we sat at the pool and were ready to relax. The only way to eat is to go to the next tower, order food, and bring it back to your own chair. Honestly, a delivery option would have been a nice solution if they were struggling to staff. The fine dining (or mid-dining?) option was closed the entire stay for “renovations.” Sadly, that restaurant was in a great location with a view that would have made for a nice dinner option. The ugly: There is no option for a late checkout, and the checkout is at 10:00am. I’m not an avid traveler, but I can’t think of a single hotel I’ve stayed at in my lifetime where the checkout wasn’t 10:30 or 11:00. Anyway, it’s their “policy” and they make no exceptions. I was told (by the manager) that it’s an “ownership hotel” which I guess means something for checkouts? That wasn’t explained. We were told that we could use the lounge while we wait for our 4:00 flight. The lounge is similar to a waiting room at the doctor’s office, far removed from the this hotel. The open air lobby is a more pleasant option, but I guess they want their bored guests out-of-sight at that point. By the end of my stay I will have spent nearly $3,000 for five nights at this resort (parking on top of the resort fee, which is always the case) and the manager was unable to find a way for us to stay in our room until noon. This is a dealbreaker for me and I won’t be returning to any Westin property for any future travel. A nice stay was ruined because of a “policy” that defies logic. Did I mention that check-IN is 4:00? The room will sit vacant until then - and a pair of guests will be sitting around, waiting for their flight. Really a bad way to finish a nice trip.

Here is a summary of our visit to the resort that was NOT too busy in early November 2023: 1. We reserved a room with a balcony. The balcony was so narrow that you could barely have the chairs in there. And the best part was that the front of the balcony was a wall! almost 5 ft high. There was no space to sit, but if were to sit there, we would be looking at a wall. The room was very dark as a result. 2.The room smelled from cigarettes. They sent someone to clear the air with an ozone machine. It helped with the cigarette smell, but we were not able to sleep due to the strong, sharp smell of the ozone. 3. The next day we spoke to one of the managers. She told us that none of the other rooms would be better. We offered to pay extra in order to be upgraded and she said that was not possible. We had to stay at the same room category even thought the resort was not busy at all. 4. They moved us to a room right next to the hotel's main A/C unit. Now we couldn't sit on the balcony due to the harsh noise from the A/C. 5. Our friends stayed in another room and they said their room was not very clean. 6. I would like to point out that we reserve the room directly from the Westin (Marriott) website.

Marriott Vacation Club does not care about its guests in the way that they portray or advertise their company. Our family flew into Maui on the day power went out in Lahaina and Ka’anapali. We were stuck in the traffic on the one road that leads into the resort area and ended up never making it up nor checking in. To this date, we never received any form of contact from the vacation club about the Maui fires and our canceled reservations. I had to call multiple times and speak to several customer service agents to even get the refund for the vacation stay that never happened. In the five days we were stuck in Maui, Marriott never reached out to our family to offer information or help. In fact, when we called Vacation Club the first night we found ourselves with nowhere to stay, they said we need to contact the Maui resort itself and they can offer no assistance. They didn’t care that the Maui resort had no power and wasn’t answering their phones. We were unable to get any sort of help or direction as to what to do. We were left to fend for ourselves in an unfamiliar place and ended up spending the night in our car with our young kids. We scrambled the next day to find any sort of accommodation. We ended up finding a room in another resort in Wailea (also Marriott owned) but at over $1,000 a night until we could leave the island. We spent almost $7,000 that we did not intend on spending but had to because we didn’t have any other choice. I asked Marriott Vacation Club if they could help cover these unforeseen costs but their customer service agents refuse to even connect us to management so that we can appeal our case. It makes me mad that I had to even argue with them over the phone about refunding me the cost of our original accommodation that we couldn’t even check into. This solidifies the case for me that Vacation clubs do not take care of their guests nor desire to take any kind of responsibility as shown to us during this situation. I won’t mention it here in detail because it’s not my firsthand experience, but we ran into guests who wee able to get out of the resort. The stories they told us about how the vacation club “took care of them” during the power outage and food shortage was appalling. My takeaway from this experience is that they’ll gladly take your payment and give you a room, but that’s it. Everything else that comes up, you're on your own.

HONEST Review** We has Beautiful experience at this Resort! If you are looking for a comfortable, spacious room with an at-home feel and full kitchenette options and a great on-the-beach option, look no further! ! I provide honest reviews as someone from the middle-class (black heterosexual couple) who only stays in 4 star hotels. SERVICE: Great service! Everyone was welcoming, helpful and available when needed. We missed an entire night due to a cancelled flight and they worked with us. Check in was easy, even though busy at time of checkin. We were always accommodated as needed. ROOM: We booked the "Islandview Studio Premium Villa" and loved it! From the moment we booked until after we left, we enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and beautiful, clean, practical. You can cook in the units as well as do your laundry there, they even included laundry soap- incredible and we used a couple times during our stay. We loved the large jet tub as well and the provided soap/shampoo/conditioner. The bed was very comfortable, as were the linens. The patio was beautiful and our room overlooked the children's pool but you could still still the ocean and palm trees. It was always quiet. Wifi always worked. AMENITIES/GROUNDS: Great amenities, pools (adults & kids in separate sides/areas), whirlpool, snorkeling, fitness center, cultural center, activities & shows like hula dancing, craft fairs, etc and the Spa! We loved the on-site restaurant "Pailolo Grill & Bar" and ate there almost daily. While we came during the very busy season (Feb/March), things were crowded but still fun. They also have a full service on-site market store with all the basic, like a Target Express. The only thing that could use improvement is the hallway walls in some areas have been dinged/scratches and could use some paint. Otherwise, beautiful! LOCATION: Absolute perfection. Close enough to everything but far away for a peaceful escape. Also, they have the best beach area along Lahaina. PARKING: Always available and ample parking. Overall- highly recommend and absolutely enjoyed our stay. We loved our stay and hope to come again in the future. We do NOT understand the negative reviews.

My family and I stayed at the Resort during the last week of May 2023 and had a wonderful time there. It's been more than 10 years since we were in Maui. The ocean-front view was breath-taking. The room looked quite new and was well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you Westin for a wonderful experience. We will be back.

I've read all the bad reviews before booking and my husband and I thought they may be exaggerated. We were WRONG. It is that terrible! Our unit 7173 was infested with cockroaches. The roaches were coming from behind the microwave oven, from the power outlet and also roaches droppings in silverware drawer. Roaches were also crawling inside the coffee maker. We ate from the mini kitchen a couple of nights and wanted to vomit. Thankfully, we didn't get sick. My advice is DO NOT USE the kitchen without fully inspecting all drawers and appliances.

First, they made us wait 5 hours for a room even thought they knew we were arriving early and we communicated it prior to arrival. Then, my toddler picks up a large, gross toenail from the floor. Finally, we wake up to realize that the bed sheets have stains (yes, plural) that we did not make. I went to speak to the concierge about this because it was barely our first day there and this was already our experience and Giselle was the least caring, most dismissive concierge. After expressing my frustration, she purposely made it a point to be even more curt and unhelpful. Believe it or not, there didn’t seem to be a single manager in this place because they made me wait TWO hours to speak to someone about this. Disgusting place, rude staff. Never going back. What a waste of money. Too bad they don’t do half star reviews.

I am giving this stay a lower rating because of the room assignment. I am an owner at this resort but I booked with Abound points for 3 nights with a Wednesday check in. I always make a room request, knowing it is not guaranteed. As a Marriott Vacation Club member, I usually get my request or close to it at all the various resorts I have stayed at. At this resort, I did not get anything close to my request. I was in the oceanfront category, which costs thousands of extra points. I probably should have saved points and stayed in a lower category. We were on the 3rd floor of building 5. It was set back and half the view was of the pool and the other building across the pool. The ocean part of the view was over the restaurant. The ocean view was still nice but hard to classify it as an oceanfront view. The front desk told me that if you do not use your owner week for exactly a 7 night stay and you book at anything less than 12 months out, then you will never ever get your room request. Now that I know this, it will impact how I make future reservations.

We came here on a time share advertising trip the first time a few years ago, came back and then purchased an oceanfront week for biannual use on Redweek. The last two times we came with our kids (and even a grandchild now). We love it. It is paradise again and every time. Serene, relaxing, gorgeous sunsets, perfect climate. We buy all we need at Costco upon arrival. Check in is easy: get the keys at the front desk and go to your rooms. Everything is always in good condition: clean, beautiful, practical. You can cook in the units as well as do your laundry there. The grills are wonderful for grilling some fresh fish (highly recommended). There could be more pool lounge chairs towards the ocean: there is always a bit too much competition for them. Renting things can be a tad expensive. There is excellent snorkeling directly in front and a wonderful beach about 300 yards to the south. I do not understand the negative reviews here. WiFi was always working. I hardly needed to talk to someone at the reception, and when I did, people there were always friendly. Know what you rent or buy, when you do. There is Oceanfront, Ocean View and “Island View”. The latter is fine, if you are mostly at the beach or doing stuff, and do not care much for a great view.
