We just returned from 7 glorious days at Honua Kai. We stayed in Luana 1A in the garden villas section. This is the new section of the resort arranged into 18 villas that each have four units. My first impression was WOW! We rented from Fereshteh Ali and her company, KLVR. The website pictures were great but did not do justice to how fabulous the rental really is. It is crisp and clean and fully stocked. The the bedrooms were perfectly arranged for our multi generational group - grandma and grandpa up front in the first master bedroom and parents and kids tucked in the back in the second master and the guest room. The first thing we did each morning was to open the full wall of windows to really experience our surroundings. 1A puts you in the peace and quiet of the villas, but is the closest to all of the resort amenities like the 5 pools and Dukes. And it was the "extras" that really put this rental in the 5 star category - the beds were AMAZING and it comes equipped with everything you need for your beach trip (chairs, umbrella, beach cart, Morrey boogieboards, sand toys, and floats). Finally, the price is right! Here's my one critique - while Ka'anapali is a beautiful beach, it is not a "run in and swim wherever you want " beach. You have to pay attention to the coral in the water in front of Honua Kai. It's really not that big of a deal though because the fun is exploring the other beaches on the island. DT Fleming Park was our favorite and I feel like we got them all from south, to west, to east.

The first night, I noticed a few small bugs in the kitchen. I didn’t want to think the worst. I found another the next day in the toilet after using it…. before flushing. I refrained from cooking since I wasn’t sure if these were roaches. My last night I got a video and they are definitely roaches. I will not be staying here again. The price is outlandish for having roaches.

Our one bedroom suite is dirty, worn, and dated. It has poor lighting, including burnt out bulbs that add to the poor lighting. We have to use our cell phone flashlight to see well enough to adjust the thermostat and use the resort phone. The furniture is dirty & has stains. The carpet is worn, stained, and has holes in it. We were not comfortable walking in bare feet within the unit. The bathroom is small and has limited counter space. The bathroom mirror frame is covered in stains and debris. It is the only mirror in the unit - no bedroom mirror and no full length mirror. Some of the towels are stained and should be discarded. Our unit was not stocked with all of the initial supplies. Some of the employees are lacking in quality customer service skills, including a bartender who was verbally rude to us. There are not enough amenities and poolside equipment to accommodate the number of guests. We had a 40 minute wait for lunch at Duke’s, which we didn’t mind. However, the bench in the waiting area was covered in bird droppings. It was directly in front of the hostess stand, within full view. We will not return, nor will we recommend this facility to anyone.

Beautiful resort! We stayed in condo 734 with another couple on vacation. Enjoyed the large balcony. Booked massages right on our balcony from a local small business. Great location, easy access to the beach. Loved the on-site restaurant, Duke’s. Highly recommend.

The hotel was clearly understaffed and stressed to the max when we stayed here. They were unable to check people in for many hours when we first arrived and didn’t have clean linens available for much of the first day - basically a major housekeeping and management failure. The rooms are dated, but are large and have full kitchens, making them good for a longer stay where you want to grocery shop and cook. The beach and nature were beautiful, but the pool area was showing major wear and tear and, like the rooms, felt kind of grimy and dated throughout.
