This was a great trip for me and my wife. The resort was amazing but the rooms were a little dated. The staff was super helpful and very friendly. The location was on the west side of the island and very ideal. We were here for the Maui basketball tournament and the resort was very accommodating to us for all the reservations we had. The views we had each day were beautiful and the cliff diving was a bonus. We had sea turtles and seals swimming around us. Bring your snorkeling gear because the rentals are a bit pricey. All in all we would visit here again and hope to do very soon.

Hotel's Favourite
We completed a ten-night stay on Bonvoy-points (560,000 points) at the “Six Star” Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa in Kaanapali Maui Hawaii, a 5-minute drive north of Lahaina Town, which is less an hour’s drive from the Kahului Maui airport (OGG). This was our third stay at this property. The Sheraton Maui is one of the original iconic resorts along the Kaanapali coastline. Built in 1963, this 59-year-old property was closed for two years in the mid-90’s for a complete rebuilding, but retaining some of the original architectural design, specifically Tower 4. Which is built into the cliffs of Black Rock. Unlike so many resorts (including the nearby Westin & Hyatt Regency) where every bit of property was turned into developed space, the Sheraton Maui has acres of open grass in front of each tower to the pool and beach areas, making this property feel much more relaxing than others. The property centered on top of Black Rock, which is at the north end of the famous stretch of hotels, condos and timeshares, including the Whaler’s Village Shopping Center. The hotel is divided into six towers. Towers 1 and 2 are set back from the beach south of the lobby but can offer great views of the hotel’s luau and ocean. Tower 3 is just north of the lobby, also set back with great pool and ocean views. Beware both Towers 2 and 3 are double-sided with Resort (non-ocean) views. Tower 4 retains its iconic 60’s heritage but has significantly smaller rooms – but the views looking south along the Maui coast are like literally like living in a postcard – whether during daylight, sunset or at night. Tower 5 encompasses the suites and is the location of the former open-air Sheraton Club, which was now only used for morning yoga classes during our stay. We stayed in Tower 6, located on the other side of Black Rock. Getting from Tower 6 to the Lobby requires three elevators and some walking to navigate around Black Rock. However, these larger rooms offer a complete 180-degree oceanfront view of the neighboring Lanai & Molokai islands with only kayaks, outrigger canoes, occasional catamarans & pods of dolphins interrupting the expansive sea of blue ocean water as if at a private retreat, which is so unique to the tropical experience. All hotel rooms just before the pandemic were renovated with new artwork and fixtures. The rooms were clean, and the housekeepers service made your bed and changed out towels daily without asking. The rooms used small individual shampoo and body wash, but the housekeeper’s provided extras if needed. Also added since our last stay are filtered water bottle refill stations, located in each tower on multiple levels, usually near the ice machine. I’d bring or buy your own bottle, as the collapsible bottles provided guests are cheap and I rarely saw anyone using them. The hotel has great casual dining at the Cliff Bar Grill and Mai Tai Bar, offering great food and beverage options. In the late afternoon and evening, they offer great “island style” live music. Recently added is the Sandbar lounge next to the lobby, offering Starbucks coffee and a large selection of bakery items for breakfast and a great casual place to grab a drink in the evening. Elites are also offered free “mocktail” fruit drinks each evening of your stay. This area is adjacent to the open-air lobby, where guests can rest on overstuffed furnishings or tables to also have a great view of the resort and beach. The pool area, which meanders through the Cliff Bar Grill to the Mai Tai Bar is relaxing alternative to the beach and ocean. This was the only area during my entire stay where I felt maintenance was not 100% as a couple of shredded pool noodles and discarded plastic cups littered one spot along the pool scuppers and nearby plans for days. For Platinum Elites & above, the Coral Reef Restaurant offers the award-level continental breakfast, but charges $15 per person to upgrade to the full tropical buffet. On my last stay in 2017, the full tropical buffet was included for top-tier elites. Dinner is also served at this location. A new location from our last stay is the Black Rock Shave Ice, located at the base of Tower 5 by the entrance to the beach. For $9 you can order a large shave ice in up to three flavors – very refreshing & well recommended! The Maui Nui Luau is held three times a week. The music and performances aren’t the best I’ve seen over the years in Hawaii, but luckily you can sit along the breezeway off the lobby and take it in without spending $180 per person! The luau music resonates the feeling of “Aloha” throughout the property! The property DOESN’T require you wear a band or bracelet to use the pool area. Pool/beach towels are free and provided from a hut near the beach. The room keys were provided as an NFC bracelet, so you never needed to find a pocket to keep your key. We wore these bracelets throughout or stay, including swimming in the ocean and going into town. Unlike our stay in the Waikoloa area of the Big Island the previous week, there was never a feeling of understaffing or a “closed for business” feel at the Sheraton or any of the shops, restaurants or hotels in the Kaanapali or most of Lahaina area. For those on a budget, a five-minute drive south to Safeway or Longs, or a 10-minute drive north to the Napili Market offers many lower cost food options. In Lahaina, the most amazing casual restaurant is the Paia Fish Market, with mainland prices for a great casual seafood experience. It helped that the Sheraton’s in-room refrigerators were a little larger than average and kept things colder than average, allowing you to keep cold food and beverages longer during your stay. Even when staying on points, the Sheraton charges a $41.10 daily resort fee and $27.08 for parking, less free parking for Elites the first night. For those staying in Towers 4 there is an oceanfront outdoor parking lot adjacent to the rooms, which always has plenty of parking space. There is also a multi-level parking structure behind Tower 2. The management and staff at the Sheraton Maui were extremely professional and friendly, welcoming you with “Aloha” on every passing. I never saw a line at the registration desk during my stay. The only “understaffing” I experienced was a COMPLETE VOID of any Marriot Vacation Club sales staff, both at the hotel or along the Kaanapali walk by the nearby Westin. Although I missed getting a free “branded” cloth grocery bag, it was a welcome relief! We will definitely be back for our fourth stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa once earning enough Bonvoy points to return to this amazing location.

Rooms are a little dated, but the bed is comfortable, and the bathroom was very large. The room had everything you could need including a balcony overlooking the beach. The resort pool is huge and one of the best I've ever seen! We swam a lot. There are lots of restaurant/dining/bar options onsite, all of which were good. The service was impeccable, and the beach is right outside. The daily activities made for a good extra offering too.

We spent a week at this lovely resort and loved it! The entire staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helped us to truly enjoy our stay. From check-in to check-out we were always greeted with a smile. The property itself was much larger than we ever realized, probably because we stayed in one of the more distant and private parts of the resort. The Moana building was at the far north end of the resort, which meant a bit of a hike to get to the main section of the resort, including a few trips up and down various elevators... but well worth it. Our room, #6204, had a beautiful ocean view with two islands in the near distance. That section of the hotel was so dark at night the sky lit up with all the stars. We slept with the door open so we could listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. But the best part of our view was being able to watch the divers on Black Rock, as well as snorkelers and scuba divers just below our balcony. Parking was also easy and close by that section. The food at the resort was very good, albeit a little pricy. But what isn't in Hawaii. The drinks were top notch and service at the bars and around the pool was excellent. The resort is a short walk to Whaler's Village. ( I recommend walking as parking there is spendy.) All in all, we loved our stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort and are looking forward to when we return! Mahalo!

I stayed four days at this hotel which is perfectly located with direct access to one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. Although the hotel is huge, I never felt overwhelmed by its sheer size or the number of guests. The rooms are nice and clean, the swimming pool is large, and the gym (fitness centre) quite alright. However, the service is extremely poor, especially in the main restaurant (Coral Reef). Moreover, despite the room rates being pretty elevated, even for Hawaii standards, I had the impression that they tried to squeeze extra money out of you at each and every occasion. Just two examples : in a hotel of this category, the resort fee should definitely include both parking and some shade by the pool or on the beach. Yet, each and every such perfectly "normal" service must be paid extra. Disappointing! And one last thing: I find it unacceptable that you cannot get a basic espresso anywhere on the premises of this resort past 10am.

The location is the only reason to stay here!! The location is 10 stars, where as the rooms are 2.5 stars. Room: -no mattress sheet/protector on the box spring -indented mattress, so uncomfortable -tiny tiny bath towels, barley even went around a small adult body -small rooms, no room for multiple suitcases -cloth shower curtain that sticks to you the entire shower because it’s such a small small shower. The cloth shower curtain felt super gross -furniture falling apart- the wooden door to the fridge was literally only attached to one of the hinges -there was holes in the sheets on the bed -musty old smell when walking in room -noise of leaking air conditioner all night -only one chair on the balconies, not two -carpet is peeling up, and looks & feels 20 years old -rust all over the shower / bathroom / stained caulking & stained grout We saved up all of our points to stay here for several nights and are so so disappointed by the rooms. This is not the kind of night someone should ever pay $1000 for. The rooms need upgrading asap to match the pristine location of the resort. We stayed at the Hyatt a couple hotels down last year, and it was way way way better!!! Every single guest we have talked to keep mentioning how run down the rooms are here too!

When checking in we had a male desk clerk who wasn't very helpful. Made us feeling like he was inconvenienced. My husband is Titanium Elite status. Usually we are offered upgrades etc. This clerk told us that there were no upgrades but he could give a discount on a 2 room suite that is 1000 sq ft and in tower 6 Moana. But it would cost us another $350 a night above what we already were paying. We declined and then were told our room wasn't ready and may not be ready till after 3pm. We explained we had a sunset cruise we needed to get to by 3:30 and needed to freshen up etc. He told us the area our room would be in so we could go look at that tower, but he couldn't promise our room would be ready in time for us to freshen up before leaving for our cruise. The bell hops offered us water and held onto our bags while we walked over to the area our room would be in. We realized the room we paid for was ocean view and there was no view from this area, so we decided to see if we could talk to someone else at the check in desk. This time the male was not there and a female clerk was happy to help us. She was very friendly and listened to our concerns ( room view and not being ready for us when we needed to leave) She offered to upgrade us to ocean front ( tower6, Moana) at no additional coast. When we inquired she said we were entitled to it due to the Titanium status. AND it was available now for us. Funny how things changed in the 30 mins we walked around the resort. BUT we were so happy with the service she offered and the staff from there till the end of the stay were great!! The bellman drove us up on the golf cart, brought us to our room and took the time to tell us how we would need to take several elevators to get back to the lobby. He offered for us to call them anytime for a ride. We never did, we enjoyed the walk to the lobby. Titanium status also was given free continental breakfast or a discount on the buffet. WE enjoyed both options during out stay. The staff was wonderful and we loved the strong coffee. We were able to get chairs by the pool facing the ocean each morning and enjoyed the 10am happy hour drinks and pool side service. We also rented snorkel gear from the beach area. We didn't know they offered a weekly rate till the last day, but that was ok too. The snorkeling by Black rock was breathtaking Swam with Turtles and saw Dolphins swimming n the ocean right outside our balcony. Truly felt like paradise. We did not eat lunch or dinner at the resort but liked how close the Whalers village was for lots of dining options. Overall we loved our stay at the Resort and look forward to visiting again. Only draw back was the first male desk clerk and his lack of customer service, but luckily the rest of the staff was amazing!! The only reason we are not giving 5 stars is the initial desk clerk and how he made us feel like he was upselling us, if we had not gone back and asked a 3rd time we would not of been happy.

My review will be similar to Whistlergirl89's below. I also agree that it was really a 3.5 instead of 4 for me if that were an option, and that most of that comes from the beauty of the property itself, the beach, and the views. We walked up and down the path winding through the various nearby resorts, and none of them looked as nice as the Sheraton. We had no particular issues with our room (3511), other than a few nitpicky type of things such as the large gap between the mattress and the headboard which resulted in my pillow being half off the bed when I woke up each morning. Not the best thought out bed design in my opinion. Otherwise, the room was clean and we slept well overall. What I did not enjoy was the lack of any recognition for my Silver Elite status with Marriott. Something as small as a free breakfast voucher or waiving the parking fee would have been appreciated. I was not checking my email on vacation, because you know….vacation, but apparently I could have talked to someone about a free gift or 500 points. Oh well, I would have rather something be offered at check-in. As most other reviewers have mentioned, there a ton of extra fees here, so don’t assume that what you pay for the room will be anywhere close to the final total of your stay. It wasn’t unexpected but still annoying, especially as this isn’t an urban area that lacks for parking, so having a parking fee seems like plain old greed. We also thought that the food was overpriced for the quality, and my mai tai was way too watered down. Interactions with the staff were mostly ok, with one exception where someone was a bit rude. Having just experienced the most exquisite service and hospitality that we’ve ever experienced from a hotel at the Halepuna on Oahu just prior to our stay at the Sheraton Maui, the service and hospitality here was a bit of a let down though, especially considering this was easily the most I’ve ever paid for a hotel in my life. Despite the issues, I would still recommend this property however, especially for someone who plans to really get their money’s worth out of the resort fees by taking advantage of the pool, the tennis courts, etc. If you plan on spending most of your days out exploring Maui however, this might not be the best value for you, although it’s still definitely a nice place to return to at the end of a long day.

First and foremost, the grounds and public areas of the hotel are gorgeous, just what you'd expect from a higher end hotel in Maui. Great location on Kaanapali beach. This is where the majority of my stars are coming from. Fun pool, wish there was more than 1 hot tub. My toddler loved watching the koi fish in the pond. Staff can be hit or miss depending on the department - got completely ignored by valet/bell team upon arrival and departure, no offer of assistance whatsoever. The man who checked us in at the front desk couldn't have cared less and said maybe 10 words to us throughout the whole process (majority of which was asking us if we wanted to pay to upgrade our room). Didn't provide us with our leis or water bottles, I went back later to ask for these items after seeing that they were included in the $40/night resort fee. Other interactions with ladies (Jeanaelle especially) at front desk were much more pleasant, professional and informative. The first room had paint chips all over the bed and carpet, looked like it was blowing off a recently painted vent cover from the air conditioner. Called down to the front desk and they moved us to a new room. Took less than 5 minutes, which was appreciated. Second room was fine, it was clean. 2nd floor overlooking the tennis courts/bus parking/garbage area, so nothing to write home about. No fan in the bathroom, which I think is desperately needed, as when you take a shower the ceiling is dripping with condensation. Food at breakfast buffet and Cliffside bar were fine, but pricy for what it was, but servers were generally very nice and helpful. The breakfast offerings at the Sandbar were surprisingly well priced and well portioned, the ladies were always cheerful, quick and friendly. I did yoga classes two mornings in a row since I figured I was paying for it anyways via the resort fee. Both were great, (Sophie and Sarah) - one was on the lawn, one in the rotunda. Highly recommend, it was a great start to my day. We did have a fantastic interaction with Kathy from valet, she was a bright spot when it came to staff for sure. A great asset to the team, and showed us genuine aloha. Overall the stay was fine. It's Maui so you know it's going to be expensive, but wow do the various charges and fees add up quickly here.

Well I'll start with the few positives which are very good location, walkable to some restaurants, etc. Other than that complete dissatisfaction from arrival to departure. Arrival had zero warmth or Aloha, no one there to greet you except disinterested valet people. No leigh, just a very cheap puca shell type necklace handed to you As a long time Marriot gold member we received absolutely nothing for that. No breakfast which btw averaged almost $80 for 2 people, no drink coupons, NOTHING. Had paid well in advance for room with best view possible, then tipped desk staff for further help, only to arrive at our room very far from main amenities with zero beach view that is marketed as premier room which is a joke. When we returned to desk saying we would not accept that room this turned into 45 more minutes after a very long day of travel. Staff could not have cared less. Value for the dollar very poor, almost $900.00 per night for a very average room, small since hotel was built in 1963. So dissatisfied we were going to cut our visit short by a day only to be told that even with over 72 hour notice that we would be charged a full days costs if we changed our stay- bordering on criminal in my mind. We have stayed at some of the world's best resorts , mainly Hilton, and don't mind paying for quality. But $27.00 to self-park, $21.00 for watered down cocktails, are simply ridiculous After reading many other similar reviews I anticipate the usual "sorry for dissatisfaction, hope you give us another chance B.S.". I gave the staff every chance to address our dissatisfaction while we were there, and I will repeat there was absolutely zero desire or attempts to make the customer to feel valued or heard which is customer service 101. I would never return to this property and advise others to see a VRBO instead.
