I can't say enough good things about the staff. Due to system glitch/new system our reservation could not be located. However, that being said - we were put in a bigger unit and accommodated in every way possible. We loved the unit, the grounds are lush and well taken care of. The pool area was cleaned daily early in the morning. It was my daughters first time in Maui so we only slept at the resort as we had so much exploring to do. There is no restaurant or bar at this resort, but many restaurants and bars less than a mile away, but it is very dark at night with some parts missing a sidewalk. We would return to his resort.

Front desk staff are wonderful. Lots of unexpected inclusions, they are happy to throw in snorkelling equipment, body boards, movies etc. Nice pool and hot tub area. The hot tub was often busy in the evenings though. Free parking which was great. Lovely sunsets from the beach and the resort provides beach chairs and small ice chests so you can take your wine down and enjoy. The beach isn't really that great for swimming though. Room itself was clean and well appointed. Costs were quite high but I think that might just be Maui in general. Kihei wasn't actually all that nice in itself and from exploring the island I suspect there are nicer places to stay. That said, we were doing a lot of activities and wanted to be quite central, so the accommodation worked well for us.

The location is good, and the rooms are okay. You have to step out close to the balcony to somewhat see the water. This feels more like an AirBnB than a resort, though, as they request you to clean specific ways or they will charge you a cleaning fee. It didn't feel as friendly as I would have hoped. We won't come back here again if we can help it.

Large clean rooms with fully stocked kitchens. They provide laundry machines in each suite, but provide 3 laundry pods to wash your own towels. If you want to wash clothes, bring extra detergent. They also provided beach chairs, towels and a cooler in our room. We had a nice large lanai with tables and chairs to sit outside and enjoy the view. The front desk is only open from 8-6pm each day. If you plan to check in later, call the hotel to make arrangements for late checkin. We did this and the process was simple to get a temporary key. You then go back to the front desk the next day to officially check in and can get additional keys. There are a variety of DVD movies, board games and beach gear that you can also check out from the front desk. The pool and hot tub area were simple, but kept very clean. We never found the pool area to be crowded. There are 3 nice Weber BBQ grills available to use and BBQ tools provided in our room. There is a large public park behind the resort with the beach adjacent to that. We found the beach immediately in front of the hotel to be small and rocky, but there were nicer beach areas within walking distance.

My husband and I are long time owners at the Maui Schooner resort and we, along with our “Schooner family” LOVE this resort. I will admit, there were some issues that needed to be addressed when we arrived on January 1st. Cleanliness of the resort was one, an unheated pool another. The pool was dealt with immediately after several owners met with the resort manager. Cleanliness of the units continued to improve throughout the month due to a new cleaning company coming on board at the beginning of the year. Admittedly, the couches are in need of replacement, and this process is actually in the works. The pool carpet was also discussed at the meeting with the resort manager, and a professional cleaning has been scheduled. The front desk staff has never been a problem - perhaps you came in with an attitude that produced the reaction you received? As far as updating the units, since we purchased our first (of seven) unit back in 1994, the Schooner has done many improvements: tiled showers, granite countertops, mattresses, pillows, screen lanai doors, lanai furniture, appliances, dining room tables and chairs, pool furniture and umbrellas, fire table, grills, etc., etc. Are there things that could use updating (lighting), sure. Our maintenance fees at the Schooner are reasonable and haven’t been increased over the last several years. And no special assessment was required to do all of the updates over the years. Clean towels (in good number) are provided at the beginning of the week. You need to wash them yourself only if you want clean ones mid-week. And soap is provided free of charge for this purpose. All in all, the Schooner is a great resort at a great price. If you want the quality and luxury of the Hilton, go down the road a bit and see how much it would cost to stay there.

The biggest disappointment was in the cleanliness of our 2-bedroom villa. Our first villa was so disappointing that we requested another villa. The original villa had dirty furniture, the couch was weathered and dirty, there was hair in the corners of the bathroom, I could write my name in the dust and dirt on top of the refrigerator. Our last straw was the large buildup of dirt hanging off the ceiling fans. And it wasn’t the dirt that you usually don’t see on the fan blades facing the ceiling as this was a major buildup of dirt hanging off the sides of the blades. The 2nd villa was slightly better but they had to clean all ceiling fans again and the Schooner went out and bought a couch cover so we could comfortably sit on the weathered couch. Such a big disappointment as cleanliness never was an issue before but they’ve lost their way in what cleanliness means. Looking closer the couch was gross. It looked like a frat house. The tiles were chipped throughout the kitchen., The dishwasher must have leaked and part of the under cabinet was missing. The bathroom master had mold growing in the grout. There were stains near the closet. The vanity area is soooooo outdated with the lowered lighting. Who does that now? Not to mention the thick layer of dust hanging off of the refrigerator top. The grounds are very pretty and we were glad to see this. The pool area carpet is stained with green mildew. Nothing like getting a steam cleaner to it. I do have to say the kitchen comes well equipped. But again, the lighting in the ceiling in the schooner is soooo out-dated. I am so glad we did not bring another couple with us. We would have been so embarrassed. It's not just the cleaning it's how it should be UPDATED. I told the girl at the front desk about the couch looking like it came from a frat house and she just shrugged her shoulders. Also, if I do not get clean towels after I use them, I am expected to wash them. Ok, but are you going to charge me .50 for soap so I can wash your towels? Also, the washer looked new, great. The dryer vented into the laundry area, not sure how safe that was. On the last note behind the couch there is a baseboard I needed to pull the coach away to plug in my charger. It was filthy like no ever cleaned it in years. I can’t recommend staying here and I don’t think we’ll ever be back.

Wonderful Kihei resort! The staff was welcoming and even granted our special room request. We loved our room in the A building and its beautiful 180 degree ocean view! Every room of the one bedroom, one bathroom unit, including the balcony, was spacious. There were even amenities such as beach chairs, a cooler, robes, and a full size washer and dryer that we’ve never encountered in any resort room over the years. Electronic and appliance instruction manuals and local dining recommendations were also in the room. The staff was also very helpful whenever we had a question. Restaurants and shopping were a very short drive down the road. It was a nice, quiet resort, good for families and couples alike.

We are conflicted regarding our review. First we will start with the positives. The property was beautiful and well maintained. We were excited to see the size of the unit and encounter the modern amenities in the unit. The 2 bedroom unit was perfect for two couples or a family with older kids as there are two separate areas. The full kitchen is well stocked with nearly every apparatus imaginable, most new. They also had a full size washer and dryer. The walk in showers with the detachable shower heads were an added bonus. It was truly lovely. No complaints on the visuals. All of the units have beautiful lanais where you can eat in this beautiful garden setting. There is a nice pool and hot tub with bbq grills for use. It was quiet and did I mention the beach is just right on the other side of the tennis courts? If this were all you couldn't ask for anything else and life would be perfect. Now for the less desirable aspects. First, we have never checked into a place that seemed not pleased with our arrival. It almost felt as though we were bothering them from some other tasks. Due to Covid (trip July 2021), they require you to ring the door bell and they talk to you through the door most of the time. However, when we were let in, it simply wasn't as cordial as what is generally expected. I understand natives were concerned with the number of visitors coming to the island so perhaps this can be overlooked. If that were the only issue we still could have given 5 stars. I must admit the gardening and cleaning staff we later met were much more friendly. First, there is no housekeeping. That's fine as we do not expect at a time share. However, there was also no towel service. You have to wash them yourself. With the washer and dryer, that wasn't such a big deal. It also wasn't a big deal that the hot tub (which I never got to sit in due to only 3 people of the same family at a time rule), was lukewarm. One of our family members did stick in their foot. Some of the appliances and electronics worked a little wonky. Sometimes the washer would start, other times it wouldn't. Same with the TV (even though we followed the instructions). Still not that big a deal but a bit aggravating. We also had a beeping sound from one of the appliances that lasted for days which we never discovered the source. We think it may have been the dishwasher. Since we were out of the room all day, we would only remember when we would go to bed and there it would be every couple of minutes. However we learned to tune it out. I also didn't necessarily mind the gardener coming at 8 am at least three days a week with loud tools such as the weed blower. I understand it is necessary to keep the place beautiful. They also mentioned it in the welcome brochure so it was expected. Here is what we couldn't ignore; we were told that we needed to be out of the unit for a period of time on a particular day due to bug spraying. This should have clued us in. We made sure we were out of the room at the appointed time. That night my daughter saw the first roach run across the bathroom. With such a beautiful location, I could have overlooked that. Fortunately, that was the only completely alive roach. However, every day from then on we would come across a dead or dying roach somewhere across our path. We are glad whatever they used seemed to be killing them (hopefully not killing us as well). But it was gross to encounter and have to clean them up everyday. Then we started getting bit every night by something. Finally my daughter decided to strip her bed, wash everything and spray with disinfectant. Upon removing the sheet, we found an old urine stain on the mattress cover. We believe that they no doubt washed the cover and the stain simply didn't come out, however it was still disconcerting to see. We loved Maui and can't wait to return. However between the bites and the roaches we were ready to check out.

Good location. 1 1/2 hours to Haleakala. Easy parking. Facilities a bit dated but everything clean. Easy access to park and beach. B building overlooked pool. Nice for families. Cooler and beach chairs. Ice touch and utilized on our daily outings. Especially helpful was the washer and dryer. 3 tide pods provided so bring more if you need. Groceries more expensive here than in California. Quiet and good for families. Accessible to Foofland down the road and McDs for quick meal if necessary. 20 min access to good snorkeling in Waimea. Check in easy as well. Just have paper results from COVID ready. Would definitely stay hear again.
