This was our 4th time visiting this resort. We love the proximity to the beach, pools and restaurants . (Compared to Hilton next door which is huge) We are Marriott Vacation Club members but couldn’t get the room so booked the hotel side. Requested bigger room because of older kids. We got the Ohana room which was specious. After two nights, slowly we started feeling sick. We noticed that if we were outdoors we were fine but indoors was horrible. My son who likes AC, shut it off claiming it was making us sick. The last two days were miserable. We are back home but still very sick. Don’t know if there was black mold or some allergens. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. Never mentioned to the management as we were too sick to deal with it. Flight back was just as miserable. They need to deep clean the hotel.

We had a great stay here. My kids are 16 and 11 but this would have been a great place to stay when the kids were young. Lots of pool options for little kids and the beach is not far at all (I was a little worried it would be a trek to get there but it was a 5 min walk from our room). Beach is nice. Again - would be great with littles bc the waves were small. Bring swim shoes - lots of rocks at the beach. Pool side food and drinks service was great. Lots of families staying here. Breakfast buffet was great. A bit expensive if you don’t have elite status but so many other options. Evelyn was the most amazing server at breakfast. We had her all 4 days and she remembered us and our regular drink orders and was so friendly. 5 stars for Evelyn alone! Great location bc lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance to the hotel (king and queens shopping centers). Queens shopping center has a great grocery store (kings grocery is fancy so go to queens for regular needs). We drove up to Hapuna beach a couple times for some bigger waves. Rent boogie boards if the waves are good up there at the Hulakai Surf and Paddle. Walk to Lava Lava for dinner was super easy and nice to be able to walk home - great Mai tai’s! Beach is nice but nothing spectacular but the location with so many shops and restaurants made everything super easy. Great hotel for families with young kids.

The Waikoloa Marriott resort is exactly what you would expect from a Marriott property. It’s right on the beach, has great pools and other activities for the family. It’s within walking distance of many shops, grocery stores and restaurants.

Avoid the Marriott Waikoloa at all costs. Pros - staff are friendly and professional. Beautiful beach access. Cons - room descriptions on Marriott.com are lies. We booked the standard 1 king room which had a description AND photos showing a "separate living and sleeping areas". What we got was a single tiny dingy room, no couch, no chairs just two beds and a $20 coffee maker. - cockroaches in the rooms, You will probably be going home with cockroach eggs, so get ready to call the exterminator when you get home! - staff looks underpaid, overworked and overall miserable though they try to put the best possible face on it. - you are charged $30 per day for "self-parking" but the only place to park is a VALET parking lot, with tiny spaces stacked two rows deep. So everyone has to park crooked and jam each other so you can't open your car doors.

Beautiful resort right on the ocean. Big rooms with a nice gym and amenities. Beach and pool area is gorgeous with plenty to do for a week vacation. They also have a variety of shops and restaurants nearby. It’s also away from the main bustle of Kona.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! We have been staying at this Marriott hotel for many, many years! We won’t be back. The standard of this Marriott in Waikoloa has fallen dramatically! Management is not maintaining this hotel. It is now at the level of a motel. The last straw was taking away the Valet parking service. There is now only self-parking and that is uneven and difficult to navigate especially for older guests like us. We typically choose a Marriott hotel because we know the standard of service and cleanliness that we will get! NO LONGER TRUE HERE!!

an effort to have a relaxing stay away from the big cities and noise - they booked us into a room overlooking an incredibly noisy pool. Thanks to a wonderful front desk person, Cyan, she booked us into a suite overlooking the much quieter side of the resort. As a Marriott titanium member I am a big fan, but NOT of this hotel. It is outdated, you can barely move your luggage across the old carpet to get to your room. The in room coffee is horrible and EVERYTHING has a fee attached, from parking, to breakfast, to better coffee. Definitely OVER priced. If I paid $200 or less a night I might reconsider but even then remember everything has an extra fee. One other note, the housekeeper was still working in the room to which we were assigned and was astonished we had the room - called her supervisor and he came to check our room key to see if it worked. Then as we were eating while waiting for our room - I received a call asking us to change our room. Why was housekeeping trying to keep us from this room? Very strange experience. Also the screen door has a hole in it and was really hard to open and close.

Room Tip: Definitely do not go for the beach experience - this is a resort to hang at the pool. Not much...

I booked a double room, ocean view for an exorbitant amount of money but it was vacation and I wanted to be able to enjoy an ocean view room. When I checked in, the desk agent told me that she had ‘upgraded’ me to a pool view room. After I informed her that I had paid for an ocean view room, she told me that she didn’t have any. She offered me a $200 credit. That was clearly insufficient for what I paid. After insisting that we speak to the manager (who never showed his/her face), she returned 10 minutes later to say she was able to accommodate the request on the top floor of the hotel. When we arrived, it was a pool view room, with a glimpse of the ocean (like nearly every other room in the hotel) on the top floor. Beyond the bait and switch, the hotel was run down, the food was awful and the service unsatisfactory. Don’t stay there. There have to be better hotels for the money nearby.

We have had the absolute worst experience here. We checked in yesterday as the keynote speaker for an event, with a reservation for a two bed room. We were tired and ready to relax after a long flight. When we got to our room we saw it was a single king bed, so we called down and reported the error and were told to bring all of our luggage back to the front desk. We carried everything back down, and then were told that they were out of double rooms. Which was interesting because they gave the person next to us an UPGRADE on their double room so that they could have an ocean view. We waited for a half an hour for a manager to come help us, and were told that the best they could do was to send up a cot. They did not offer us help with our bags, and my mother and I (she is 73) had to carry our bags all the way back up to our original room. We also asked for foam pillows bc of a feather allergy. The cot was delivered just inside our door with 2 extra feather pillows, no effort was made to help us set it up. My mother and I struggled for 15 minutes to get it over the border between the carpet and the wood flooring and it almost fell over on us several times. When we did get it set up, there were springs popping out of it. I got no sleep. What a horrible way to treat people. The utter lack of respect, the loud parking lot noises of feral cats fighting all night, the view of the dumpster, the smell of mildew in the room, the abhorrent service… do yourself a huge favor and never come here. We come to the islands twice a year and in 20 years have never had an experience like this. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I can’t wait to leave here tomorrow. 0/10. I hope they read this and do better so that they don’t ruin anyone else’s trip.

An absolutely wonderful experience at this Marriott. We stayed in a room with a resort view (2291) on the north wing of the hotel which had a beautiful view of the landscaped grounds and in the distance the ocean. Thought it was a well apportioned room with a small lanai. Bathroom was decent and not too small. All interactions with staff were great. Prices for food were actually decent for a resort hotel and the food was very good. Did not eat any dinners on the premise. Beautiful infinity pool and it is just a short 100 yard walk on a scenic path pass fish ponds to a beautiful beach. Good swimming because it’s a cove however poor snorkeling. Watched whales break a mile offshore and friends saw turtles to the south near Lava Lava Beach Club. The overall vibe at the hotel is very chill and it was mostly families or people over 50. No easily accessible bar by pool.
