The outside of the resort is beautiful but if you’re not staying in one of the most up-to-date rooms I feel you’ll be very disappointed no microwaves or dishes or icemakers only a tiny refrigerator no laundry that is free and parking is very expensive if you are a guest and Renting and thinking you’re staying in a full condo make sure you check that it is a true one bedroom versus a room with a bed and a bathroom to get to Ocean Tower you have to either walk or take a train or boat so don’t plan on it being a rush to get anywhere For the cost of this hotel or condo it is very expensive to purchase any type of food if you have no transportation to get anywhere the price that you’re paying For what you get I feel you can do better at other locations especially since parking is not included and you cannot bring food in to cook since there’s no way to cook food

Stayed at OT celebrating my 30 year wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect. We had a newly renovated studio with view of the ocean and Mauna Kea. Any issues we had were quickly resolved by HGV staff. The grounds are well maintained and the sunset view every night is amazing. Overall a very positive experience for my first use of my HGVC membership. I highly recommend this property. But keep in mind this is a large resort property. You can get around on the tram or canal boats but you should not be in a hurry. Just relax and enjoy. Thanks for a great vacation HGV!!

Beautiful resort, Spacious rooms and the view to the ocean was fantastic. You had pools and beach options on the resort. After we toured the island we stayed 2 days on the resort just to do activities there . Beautiful resort 100% would recommended

Service and Amenities - excellent. Food/drinks expensive. Room extremely lacking for the price paid!! Needs serious renovation. Very "worn" appearance. Worse over 30 years of staying at Hilton properties.

Lovely resort and swimming pools. Enjoyed the amazing art all over the properties. The rooms at the Ocean Tower could use some renovations. Most of the staff was friendly. The tram was convenient and had great air conditioning. Check out time is 10:00, I accidentally thought it was at noon but the staff was understanding and we cleared out around 11:00.’

Pro’s - Breath taking landscaping, lawns and exterior appearance - The Mono rail and boats make travelling the property very convenient and enjoyable, otherwise it’s a 20 minute walk each way to the parking lot if you have a rental car. Con’s - The hotel is very old and in desperate need of updates - Staff never addressed any of the room concerns during the trip - toilet barely flushed, took multiple flushes, Sink tap cold water knob keeps leaking water and making a mess on counter - A/c thermostat climate up button didn’t work. It would get stuck at a low temp, Had to turn off, turn on and then it’s stuck at 72f and can’t raise it higher. There were some cold nights - Lack of staff in every bit of the operation - No room service. Only one visit by room service for entire week of stay. - Limited options and overpriced low quality food options unless you drive out to the strip mall area

I was half terrified to stay here after reading reviews of how dirty it was and what a poor time people generally had at the Hilton. I ended up staying with my family anyway and was overall pleased. I have stayed in Kona at far ritzier places (for a premium) and could have done so again if I wanted to literally double the cost of our 4 night stay. We chose the cheaper option and found it adequate. The room was clean and sparse, it is dated, but honestly, how much will you be in your room anyway. You can tell that like most resorts, the goal is to trap you so you spend the next few paychecks there or it’s more aimed toward corporate guests. They also put a 50.00-75.00? per night hold on my card in addition to everything else. Apparently so you can spend that in the resort—whether it’s their overpriced food or parking, etc. The grounds are huge and they have tram that will take you to the main lobby to each of the towers. After putting our luggage in the room we opted to walk instead of take the tram, if you don’t have health issues walking, etc, the walk of definitely faster and worth it. You can beat the tram and the crowd, feel the ocean breeze and admire all the statues on your walk to your car. There must be a ton of others admiring the statues, too. Every time we went out there was a new statue with stone ‘feces’ laid out behind it. What a joy for the housekeepers to pick up as the grounds are sprawling and you never will want for stones. Valet parking is 55.00 a night or 39.00 self park…if you’re there for an extended stay or want to grocery shop, it may be worth it to valet your car. I did, and called down to valet before leaving my room. It was always ready when I got there. Try to leave the grounds if you can for food/exploration. You probably will want something as most places close (just in general) around 9-10pm in kona. Plus, no one can justify a 60.00 pizza -which is what they charge for a loaded pizza. This is really what makes me think it’s for corporate guests—plus, I feel like it’s typical hotel fare with a menu I swear I have seen somewhere else before… One problem I had was with the front desk, there were other families there when she announced my room number out loud. I hate that. I honestly cannot stand when they announce the room number for the world to here. I can read just fine and it’s a safety issue (as well as unprofessional). Another thing is the birds. Holy mother of Christ, I thought on a remake of Hitchcock’s movie. The birds continuously squawk (I Mean a TON of them) in the wee hours of the am, if it rains, in the evening around 6-7pm and if it’s windy. I might stay here again if I wanted to save some dough. I just wish parking would be more convenient. Seriously, by the time you venture out to the car after walking the grounds you will want to be out for the rest of the day. Make sure you don’t forget anything, because it will be a pain the butt to go back to get it.

I think this resort gets a bad wrap. This was our second time staying here (February 2020 - prior). We travelled with another coupe and had a fantastic time. We had unrenovated, oceanfront rooms in the ocean tower. The rooms were absolutely fine and the view was spectacular. The grounds were vast and pristine. Could not have met friendlier staff at the resort and on the Hawaiian Islands in general. I think the rest of North America could learn a lot from the Hawaiian people. The walks to the main lobby were long, however, could we not all use a bit more exercise?!? For those who are not as concerned about their physical fitness or are unable to do the walk, there is a tram as well as a boat that comes at regular intervals. I think many of the complaints on here are unfounded considering how inexpensive this resort is compared to other hotels in the area.

My husband remembers visiting the Hilton Waikoloa in the 80s when it was new. He was super excited to bring our son here. They have now converted part of the ocean towers into Hilton club, which is where we stayed. To say this is underwhelming would be an understatement. The unit itself is very nice, a two bedroom, with two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, and two patios. That is pretty much where the niceness stops, though the staff has also been very lovely and attentive when we have needed assistance. Unlike most club properties you cannot access the building with your car. That means that you have to park over a half a mile away and schlep back-and-forth. While some people may come to the Hilton and never leave, we are the type that likes to go dine out, visit beaches, etc. Yes another option is to ride a really slow little train, that seems to wait forever at each little station. It can take 20 minutes to get from your hotel room to your car at this property. Another big downside is that this summer the one hot tub on a property of over 1000 hotel rooms is closed! And the big slide that they are famous for its also closed. Of course none of this was revealed in advance. Something else that really seems to be missing on the club property are outdoor dining options. It seems like two of their hotel restaurants are closed while 2 pool bars and a single small grill is open. It also seems like a serious oversight to not have any grills or patio tables available for families to use outside. When we visit other club properties we always purchase steaks and burgers in advance. Now we’re on the hook for nice steaks which we will have to cook indoors on a crappy peeling Teflon pan that is warped since that’s all the club provided. It is disappointing that they also have decided that any sort of shade provided for people who did not opt to pay for a casabella is unnecessary. Most properties have a mix of umbrellas or Palapas style shade for free seating around the pool, as well as sun for people who would like it. This property has zero umbrellas or Palapas for any pool seating anywhere on the entire property. Again this seems shocking since there are over 1000 hotel rooms here. It seems like this is a property in transition, that they are upgrading as they go. But already have some club units available seems a little weird, given that a lot of things are a bit shabby around the edges and the amenities are seriously incomplete. Pictured here is the one slide that is open for children.

Aloha and thank you for your very detailed feedback. All of Ocean Tower is now Hilton Grand Vacations, we purchased it 5 years ago and have been renovating the rooms in stages since. Naturally, the pandemic stalled many things. Onsite restaurants are operated by third parties and they are trying their best to hire staff and become fully operational for our guests again. We have shared your comments about the pool and lagoon area as well as the slide with Hilton Waikoloa Village's leadership team for further review. We hope we have an opportunity to host you again in the future.

The entire Hilton Waikoloa Village is the definition of a mega resort. And if that is your cup of tea then it's great - if the idea of a hotel with 1200+ rooms over 62 acres is overwhelming well - welcome to my mind. It's a lovely hotel - however the 3 separate towers to the uninformed/uninitiated is super overwhelming upon arrival. After one night it was fine - it was just that first feeling and it was a lot after a long flight from SFO. We opted to walk from the main lobby to the Ocean Tower - the hotel has done a nice job of engaging the guest with the collection of art and views of the property and ocean. Check-in at the Ocean Tower was relatively quick and uneventful. Our bags arrived from the bell desk in a timely manner. Our ocean front room was nice - albeit an odd shape - the bed sat in the "corner" of the room - but I must say the ocean front view was spectacular. Below us was an expansive lawn area, Buddha point and the ocean - picture perfect. During sunset families would play and picnic on the lawn - it was pleasant with minimal kid screams. Where this hotel is struggling is with staff - not all restaurants are open, you need to budget your day to make sure and accommodate what spots are open and when to make sure you get a meal. The coffee place in the Ocean Tower does their very very best to accommodate 1+ tower worth of guests for morning coffee (one morning there were 26 people in line behind my husband at 6:30am). We were at the hotel for a wedding so our stay was relatively short and purposeful. The adult pool is wonderful - quiet. calm, pleasant, and plenty of pool chairs with a towel machine right next to the stairs. It would be great if there was a bar closer then the next pool. All in all the Ocean Tower with an ocean front room is wonderful and management has done a decent job of putting what limited resources they have where the guests need them most. Management is doing the best they can in these trying times to staff a hotel of such size.
