We needed a clean enough place to stay in the Hilo/Pahoa area for a short stay. We found Island Paradise Inn to meet the criteria quite well. While not spotless, most places are not, it offered us a very large room with plenty of space as well as a kitchen so that we could cook and pack up meals. As...

Island Paradise Inn is NOT a place to go if you are looking for conventional, high rise, ocean-front destination resorts. It is THE place to go if you want a place which is moderately priced, off the tourism circuit, in a lively and eccentric town and owned and managed by a woman who takes pride and interest in her properties....

As the title says it all...in case you have no idea where to spend the night, with 2 kids exhausted, after a 5 hours lava walk, 10 pm....and no reservation in hand..... When you find a roof with two bedrooms and a shower, than you would take it, whatever the conditions ! Other than that : avoid. Dirty (and we...

I have lived in Hilo Hawaii all my life, now that I’m grown and have moved off island, I come to see family and friends every couple of years. Every time I come home I say at Island Paradise Inn and I will continue to do so. The lady that runs the place, Ophelia, is the hardest working woman I...

The Island Paradise Inn provided a central location for me when I needed a place to stay. My initial plans did not work out, and Ophelia was so kind and respectful to me. I stayed in the Bamboo Suite, which contained a double bed, FREE wifi, cable TV, small refrigerator, microwave, basic kitchen/dining items, bathroom with a hot shower, towels,...

I had an idea what I would be in for just by the price...and I got what I was expecting. Professionalism is not their strong suit. I booked the room same day and Ophelia was never able to tell me if it was going to be one bed or two. We checked in at the pizza place which was unusual....

On the day of our arrival, the owner's phone was disconnected. So we had to find her by asking people around in Pahoa and then go to a pizza place to talk to her. She was not surprised, may be a little disappointed - her phone got lost and she did not manage to call us herself. Not even a...

Compared to other places in Hawaii, this one is rather cheap and you get what you pay for. Upon our arrival, we first had to locate the owner by first finding her sister at a local pizza place, who then called her, and then waiting for over 20 minutes u tip she arrived. Due to a mixup by the owner,...
