We enjoyed 3 lovely nights at this great bed and breakfast, and wished it could have been more. The hosts Petra and John were wonderful - very welcoming and full of useful advice about what to see and where to go. And Petra's delicious breakfasts were something we all looked forward to every morning (and missed after we left...especially those...

Out of all the bed and braekfastes that I have ever stayed at hale Makamae really made me feel like family very refreshing to know there are such places to stay home away from home, in Paradise! Sincerly Charles Crittenden VIP ACTIVITIES

My family and I stayed for 9 days. Petra and John made us feel very welcome. The rooms were clean and the breakfasts were fresh and delicious. The Hale Makamae is less than an hour drive from so many amazing sites. If you are looking for a relaxing, out of the way place to stay, this might be a good...

I stayed here for several days in Oct 2009 to see the volcanos. As soon as we arrived, Petra greeted us and told us about the incredible lava flow that night. She armed us with flashlights and explained exactly how to get there. It's only about 10-15 minutes away from Hale Makamae. Definitely the best part of our trip to...

Our family had the pleasure of spending one night at Hale Makamae in August 2010. Being a large group of 7, we required the use of 2 separate accommodations, both of which were spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed. The Lanai Suite on the second floor had a deck overlooking Petra’s lovely garden. The entrance to the Makamae Studio,...

We were made thoroughly welcome and given plenty of 'insider' knowledge about the area which enhanced our experience. The most family friendly place that we stayed.

Petra was very friendly and helpful with explaining the area, providing maps and suggestions on things to do and places to eat. We stayed in the studio for 2 nights and it was a perfect space for us. Breakfast was great each morning!

This B&B gets our highest recommendation. The host family REALLY went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and easy. The rooms and property are very clean and aesthetic. The location is centrally located in the Puna District and easy to get to. The little touches they provide in the way of extra service make a huge difference.

When we first arrived at Hale Makamae, we were greeted by Petra, who couldn't have been any nicer. We knew we were getting a great deal at this Bed and Breakfast on the Big Island, where we stayed for 3 days, but it wasn't until we tasted the delicious breakfast that we really felt at home! Petra is a fabulous...

Hale Makamea gives you a down-home feeling in a tropical Hawaiian paradise. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the weather was perfect. Would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone looking for a tropical getaway. And the food was wonderful, too.
