Our two-night stay at Shipman House was excellent. I would return in a heartbeat. The historic house is beautiful and full of interesting artifacts, including a letter of introduction for Jack London and his wife. We stayed upstairs in Auntie Clara's Shell Room, which offers a distant view of Hilo Bay. Everything was very clean and well-appointed. The large, private...

My Mother and I stayed in Flossie's room for two nights during a longer trip to the Big Island, the Shipman house was one of the highlights of our trip. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable about all things Hawaiian and shared excellent tips. The room was large, very comfortable and clean and the large wrap-around porch is the stuff of...

This is a beautifully-restored historic home and guesthouse, close to town, but down a small road away from the main streets, in a gorgeous setting - so very quiet and private. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. But the best aspect was breakfast. This featured great fruit (from the property itself) and home-made baked goods and hot cereal, plus...

Where do I begin! We had such a wonderful time at the Shipman House. We loved Hilo and enjoyed every moment of our stay.- there was so much to do and see! Gary made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived, and we loved chatting with both he and Barbara every morning. Their passion for the island is infectious,...

My family planned a trip to the big island to look into our family history. My dad booked rooms for my 2 sisters and their husbands along with myself and my husband and of course himself. We were all quite excited to stay at the house and visit all the places that my dad did while he was a child...

This is a wonderful old historic home with a fascinating history that Barbara and Gary are keen to share with you. We weren't that taken with Hilo itself so it was a relief to have such a nice place to return to at the end of each day. The breakfasts are wonderful with a huge variety of various exotic fruits...

We stayed for 4 nights at the historical Shipman House B&B and we enjoyed it very much! The house is placed in tropical and lush surroundings, giving a feeling that you are in the middle of the rain forest but at the same time you feel the past and the history in it. The sounds of the nature (pouring down...
