My husband have stayed at almost every hostel on the big island. We traveled from Hilo to Kona to Hawi to Pahoa and then back to Hilo. And I wish I had known about this place sooner!! The staff is amazing and so is the breakfast!

Excellent hospitality...uber aloha!!! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They can direct you to all the hidden gems in town and all over the island that are not only "must-sees", but also low-cost or inexpensive. The room was perfect for budget travelers that want to spend their money on other things besides a super fancy hotel. My room was...

First the positives things: -good breakfast -friendly, mostly young stuff - seemed to be clean The negative aspects: -First of all, it was one of the more expensive accomodations of our 6 week trip in the States and was not worth its money. It is said to be in an historic building but that doesn't excuse the minimum of things in...

Like others, this is difficult to review in that, whilst there are issues, the friendly family atmosphere, the working and fellow tourists make up for quite a bit. The Love Hawaiian Filipino family run it with help from family members and also from people who get free board and room in exchange for about 20 hrs of work per week....

I stayed here for a few days while I helped my daughter settle into UHH. It had a nice local feet, The rooms were clean, and a friendly atmosphere. Staff was friendly and welcoming. You will hear the "croakies", they are loud, but you are offered earphones. They are not local frogs, they came over in a store shipment and...

This inn is way cool. Not only does it have options like private hotel rooms, it also has tenting, dorm beds, and even these very tropical bamboo outdoor rooms in the Lava Pit, downstairs. Above, a spacious covered lanai serves as the cozy gathering room. The grounds lush grass sits on a slight hill, overlooking Hilo Bay. Every morning breakfast...

This place has a great vibe, is very reasonably priced, and the staff is very friendly and helpful with suggestions on where to dine, etc. Definitely Ohana-style hospitality; it’s family owned and operated, and very welcoming. The room (#18) was clean, the shower was hot, and the beds were comfy, all good! The tropical garden is pretty, with nice places...

Just a funky cool place to be. We were "winging it", and I called them the day of. Morning Dove was super nice and we got a room for that night. We were going to Mauna Kea, and wouldn't be in 'til late, but we were very willing to pay a little extra to come late and have someone there...

The people were very nice and accommodating. The frogs were loud outside of our room, it was sort of soothing in a way. The price was right and the garden area was nice. It was a very social environment.

I stayed quite a bit of time at the Wild Ginger inn while I was in Hilo, HI. The whole staff is friendly and always willing to help you out. They know they are not a 5 star resort, but with them family feel they provide, it is better than any major hotel i've ever stayed at. Alex Love is...
