If you are looking for a basic, inexpensive ($60-70/night) hotel not far from Kona and close to Kealakekua Bay this is a good stop. It is an old (built in the 1930-40's) building and shows it's age. The hotel and restaurant are family run, and full of rustic charm. Just keep in mind this is a no frills facility. No...

We stayed at the Manago Hotel on the Big Island, Captain Cook, in early July. The neon sign is clearly visible on the highway and we decided to drop in for an early dinner on our way to the Eastern part of the Island. Everything about the hotel is classic from the 40's and refreshingly not commercial. Unique for us,...

We stayed here for two nights as part of an island family vacation and paid $68/night for a comfortable queen room with a roll-away twin. If you are looking for a clean room to stay at a reasonable rate, this is your place. Third floor rooms offer nice, serene views from the private balconies (no elevators, though!). The staff was...

We paid $62/night for a triple private room. Rooms were simple, but very clean and the view from the balcony was awesome. The service in the restaurant was very good but the food was just average (their specialty was pork chops). It's minutes away from Kealakekua Bay, which has amazing snorkeling and, if you're lucky, spinner dolphins.

The elevation at 1400 feet make for lovely weather and screened window and balcony door allowed wonderful breezes to float around the room, my husband who likes 30 degree weather even crawled under the covers about 3 am it got cool....

Lousy service. They say they have wifi but it never works. When you ask them to call a cab, something any hotel would do, they show you the payphone. In their restaurant the service is often just as terrible (you got t be lucky) When you ask them to remove dirty washcloths other people kindly left in the bathroom they...

This is a no-frills affordable hotel in Captain Cook on the Big Island - no frills means no television, mini bar, a/c and fluffy mattresses. The room and the bathroom was very clean. We had a room on the third floor overlooking the bay and the backyard garden - an absolutely incredible view. I didn't eat supper at the restaurant...

We chose Manago Hotel for its location away from the crowded and busy tourist area of Kailua-Kona, its good value and the reviews we read. We were not disappointed. In fact, we were delighted by the surprise ocean view. Our room was very clean but definitely no-frills. Since we didn't intend to hang out much at the hotel, the austerity...

Great little hotel. It's exactly as advertised... a no frills, clean, and friendly hotel. It's not within walking distance to anything, so have a car. But it's within a 30 min drive of good beaches, great snorkeling, kayaking, and dining. The balconies are nice and private (stay on the 2nd or 3rd floor to ensure a view of the water)....
