This isn't a traditional hotel but rather a lodge at the Rockin' 7 Ranch. I believe they also rent the lodge to church groups for retreats but we were there to hunt. The entire month of October it's the base for hunting trips on the ranch. And what a ranch it is. About 250,000 acres in eastern Wyoming where you can hunt pronghorn antelope, mule deer, whitetail deer, elk, bison and even a coyote for pest control or a prairie dog to work on your marksmanship. We were there for the pronghorn and had an amazing time. The entire staff from the guides to the ladies that did the cooking to the owners were all very friendly and welcoming, the lodge was beautiful and they fed us way too well; all homemade food that was top notch. We got there on a Saturday afternoon and sighted in our rifles on their 1,000 yd range, hunted pronghorn on Sunday and Monday, thinned the prairie dog population on Tuesday morning and left Tuesday afternoon. For hunting, we had a guide for every two hunters and shots ranged from less than 100 yds to 600+ yds. I'd guess most were in the 200-300 yd range. We went in a pickup to the area we were assigned to hunt and then once we found a group of goats that looked promising, we'd get as close as we could before getting out and stalking. Pronghorn have incredible vision and hearing so stalks could be pretty long. Some in our party barely had to walk at all and others walked a LONG way. Our guide told my partner and me that in guiding for 13 years, he'd never had to have hunters walk and crawl as far as we did. And I believe it. But the weather was perfect (not always the case), the scenery was beautiful and we had a helluva good time. This isn't something I can afford to do every year but I'm so glad I did this and would recommend the Rockin' 7 Ranch to anyone looking for a hunt of a lifetime. You will not be disappointed.
