Our room was dark and smelled a bit musty. The furniture was cracked adn chipped. Only a couple plugs - no USB - with octopus outlets in use. Tub was worn through to bare metal abd the toilet looked like it was from a kindergarten rest room with the most uncomfortable seat ever. towels felt like burlap.
STAY AWAY. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had - I never would have stayed here, but I had just gone through a hellacious SAR helicopter rescue (literally almost died, was frozen solid and completely wrecked - that is all public record/will be once the rangers file the report)...and I HAD to stay in a hotel for the night, instead of camping. This was the ONLY place with any rooms. Now I know why. (Sidenote: it was so bad I am contacting my bank to dispute the entire charge and get a complete refund, as I received none of what I paid for and was not able to leave thanks to no front desk assistance.) Here is just a short version of why: -NO hot water in the room - CHECK YELP. I didn’t because it was an emergency for me, but beware: this is an ongoing issue there for the last several years, countless complaints -No working heat (it was starting to snow - this was last night) *also an issue for others* -The room phone didn't even work - the wires were literally sticking out of it and it was completely unusable (like...to reach the front desk when arriving at the absolutely unusable room.) -front desk cannot be reached via personal phone (I have never experienced anything like this. The lodge’s phone number routes you to a call center and the call center can’t connect directly to the actual property. What the hell?) -the girl at the front desk, Bridget is a MONSTER (and a liar, and has absolutely no business working in the hospitality industry.) The GM, Marcus, left me a voicemail today after I left, to try to "make it right," but the call back number he left me didn't even work. I am exhausted and leaving this review quickly -- I'll update more later. Feel free to see my other reviews on yelp, as I have never ONCE negatively name-referenced any individual (ever) and 95% of my reviews are 5 stars. I genuinely believe in praising over complaining. This experience was actually THAT bad though, and just wait until I add detail about Bridget's behavior, attitude, blatant lies and commentary. Most of all though: you literally will freeze if it’s winter, you won’t be able to shower unless you want to further freeze, and don’t anticipate calling the front desk because the phone won’t work. (Also, not important to me in this case but still worth mentioning: the rooms are cheap crap on every level. Go to the Ranch Inn!! Evan at the front desk there is a total sweetheart and the Inn is quaint, well-run, and has great rooms that you will enjoy.)…
Looks like a quaint 60’s-era hotel, but dark carpet & paneling haven’t been updated since. What’s worse is that the “what’s hiding in the dark carpet?” concerns were validated when we found 3 bobby pins hidden in it. Not good in an age of Covid when cleanliness is essential. Front desk said they couldn’t change rooms due to being near capacity but not sure if other rooms would have been any better anyway.
If you want to be taken advantage of, by all means stay here. They messed up our reservation and charged us for the room which we did not discover until we got home. Two nights ended costing us over 800 dollars and they would not adjust the cost. The rooms were OK but the door lock was broken and the hair dryer didn't work. The office staff were very rude when we checked in. And worse when we pointed out their mistakes.
We stayed at the Virginian for a week in Late September. The rooms were clean but definitely dated and needs an serious remodel. We switched rooms after our first room had a loose toilet, that was not secured to the ground on one side. The hotel is close to downtown and has a great breakfast restaurant that is inexpensive, great tasting and provides very generous portions! The staff was very nice and were very accommodating. The staff were happy to give us a better room which turned out to be an suite. The main point here is if you are close to the hotel price of other hotels in the area you might consider the one with higher stars! The beds and rooms are clean but it’s all very old and it feels like your at your poor grandparents single wide trailer.
