The Crown & Punchbowl is a quaint country pub, restaurant and inn nestled amongst farmhouses in the village of Horningsea, just 3 miles from the centre of Cambridge. This Grade II listed building was originally an old coaching inn constructed in the 17th century. It has been extended periodically but retains many of its traditional features including brick fireplaces and original timber beams. The Crown & Punchbowl has 5 delightful double rooms, all of them ensuite. The Erasmus Room is our largest room and offers an ensuite bath/shower. Room rates are from £120 per room. Breakfast is available for an extra £10 per person. All our rooms feature: - Freeview TV & Wifi - Egyptian Cotton Linen - Espresso Machine & Kettle - Toiletries & Hairdryer
This Hotel/Restaurant is slightly north of Cambridge in the countryside Interior is fantastic, a real pleasant place to go for lunch or dinner. Service is good, so is the wide selection of food and drinks. Highly recommended
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a quick visit to Cambridge, and it was a lovely overnight location. There was plenty of parking, we booked in the large executive room and this was reasonably priced. The room was clean and cosy with a modern bathroom, the only two things I'd like to point out to the hotel is to perhaps have the heating on already for when we arrived (we arrived in the evening and were pretty cold so would have been nice to walk into a warm room), and to look at getting the shower glass screen fixed, it was impossible to move and precariously rested at an odd angle on the bath. But otherwise, we loved our stay, and had a delicious full cooked breakfast in the morning. If we'd stayed longer I would've liked to have spent more time in the hotel bar as it was very cosy with roaring fires, but perhaps next time. If staying, I recommend having a car as the location is about a 10 minute drive to Cambridge, also bear in mind the inn is currently having refurbishments done which may impact serenity. I'd like to come back again in future.
I have been here before , and service and food always great this time this was the case. There was a group of eight of us, and we arrived at 12.15pm. Drinks orders taken and food orders taken all opted to go,straight to main courses.
Bread was brought which was nice but then we waited and waited for the main. It finally came at 1.25pm 1 hour 10 minutes after arrival with the reason given for the delay was we went straight in to mains and not having a starter!.
The main itself was good I had duck which was perfectly cooked with potatoes and mash all very good in a good sauce. Others steaks all good as were the fish cakes and sausages. BY this time we had to go back to the office no time for desert .
We then waited again for the bill and to pay. It was now 2pm , 1 hour 45 minutes for one course is to slow and would not recommend this place for lunch unless you have plenty off time and don't mind waiting
I visited with family yesterday for my Mum’s 70th. 4 members of the group ordered homemade sausages. To me that means NOT overloading it with chorizo and chilli! I just about ate mine. My 77 year old aunt ate 1 1/2 and gave the other one to her grandsons partner (who’s a chef), my Mum (who’s birthday we were celebrating) only ate 1 and her son-in-law ate the other 2. Then for dessert one guest was served vanilla ice cream with theirs, when it stated Bailey’s ice cream. Then the cappuccino was Luke warm. Nobody mentioned that there was no Bailey’s ice cream at the start and nothing on the menu said that the sausages would be spicy. We only went there as we took Mum to lunch there before and it was very nice. Not such a great experience this time round though.
Visited with some work colleagues for a celebratory lunch. Yet again the food was lovely and done to a high standard. Staff are really obliging and always made to feel very welcome. Highly recommended.
