Ela Blooms hosts individuals, families and groups and provide various types of accommodation from cottages to camping tents. With all these facilities we accommodate sleeping facilities up to 40 individuals. There are two Cottage rooms, two Mud Hut rooms and one Cave House.
900 Kandi is a forest situated in Wayanad district, Kerala. The route was good. The abundance of sceneries, breathtaking surroundings and calm weather. After a less than half an hour ride,we crossed Meppadi and entered to the 'Soochipara Waterfalls' road.It was a different off-road adventure. I really enjoyed , and definitely go to 900 Kandi.

We visited Wayanad on January 24th. Left Bangalore at 10pm and reached the destination around 6:00am. All started with an awsome drive through the Tholayiram estate; the road conditions in certain stretches are pathetic, but the jeep trip was really good. Elablooms is resort where you could find flawless nature. The rooms are were very very clean and comfortable. The resort is at the top of the hill about 4612 meters above sea level. There is sunset point where you can get a beautiful view. There are mud huts too which is really serene. It was really an adventerous trekking trip through the forest with Peter helping us out. The trekking ends with a beautiful pool and a waterfall which also gives a terrific view from the top. Fishing is another good choice if you are looking for spending time outdoor. And the power supply, the electricity is furnished by the renewable source and by the solar panels. When it comes to food, the dishes are authentic and delicious; unniyettan is very helping and cheerful. Genuinely all the staffs(Special mention to Shiju and Unniyettan) in Ela blooms are really courteous and assistive. Peter is a stunning host and helped us with everything we asked. Campfire is something you should not miss. All together, if you are looking for a very adventerous trip with lots of activities to cover, do not miss this spot.

Ela Blooms is a gem. On the top of a mountain in a remote, quiet part of Kerala, this is a part of India that tourists seldom get to stay in. Weather was gratifyingly cool - the altitude is around 5000 feet above sea level. And the stars! With little artificial light around, the night skies were astoundingly bright. We sat around a bonfire outside in the evening, drinking tea and chatting- it felt like we were in another world.
The food was excellent, quite varied, and they can adjust to different tastes. The accommodation is comfortable, clean and simple. Large beds and ensuite baths. For the remoteness and ecologically sensitive-foot print of the place, the level of comfort was much more than expected. The price, by the way, was very reasonable for what was provided.
The staff are very helpful, always ready to make tea or coffee, and can take you on hikes nearby or to nature reserves in the area. The level of English ability varies, but their effort to be of service did not. Solar heated hot water was being installed while we were there. Before that was working we were brought buckets of hot water when we wanted to shower. The climate is such that hot water is not really necessary for bathing, but it was good to have available.
A very pleasant river is within easy walking distance, and while having a dip in the water we enjoyed the streams of blue butterflies frolicking above us.
Want to know what coffee and cardamom plants look like? You can nibble them off the plant as they grow all around there. There are also tea plantations in the area.
What else? Oh yes, a band of seven wild elephants wandered in the vicinity while we were there. The staff took much care that we would not be in danger, and at the same time, showed us the place that the elephants had crushed the grass while sleeping, their dung (large, cylindrical, pungent), and their foot prints. Their trumpeting is an awe-inspiring sound.
When we were there, they seemed to have a capacity of four rooms. There are two other buildings that are more rustic that can sleep some more.
Who is this not suited for? People who require a substantial level of luxury, want television, wi-fi and business hotel levels of service. It is simple and rustic, though comfortable, in the middle of nature, and so those things are just not available.

The owner of this resort managed to buy some land in a beautiful location. Period.
They don't have enough staff. They don't have milk. They don't have a fan in the room. They charge 5500/- per night. No room service. Mediocre food. UNWASHED bedsheets and pillow covers!
It's a swindle masquerading as a resort! And when we raised these issues with them, first they tried telling us that we needed to travel more. We told them we had travelled to far more scenic places and seen many resorts.
Then they tried persuading us that we lacked a sense of adventure.
When I mentioned the unwashed sheets they went into blatant denial mode.
SHAME!
"Kandi" is certain dialects of Malayalam means faeces. This resort can aptly be renamed "5500 Kandi"!

We booked the resort and literally surprised to see that there are no emenities. But then, we were equally thrilled with this. Because we would have our time without technology and totally connecting to nature. The first day we roamed at the resort which is actually like a deep forest with the sound of birds chirping and squirrels running here and there. You won't get any five star emenities. This is just a place you can stay 1) if you're energetic enough to explore around.. 2) You would really want to live away from all the stress and prefer a place for peaceful mind 3) If you're a true nature lover. 4) If you like trekking and photography
Cave house is the place I would suggest you to stay if you are an adventurous person. It is a real cave set up with a bed, washroom, a small light bulb, a glass door, and an open space outside to spend the night gazing at the night sky, trees and a camp fire is set up to make yourself warm.
Believe me.. it's truly beautiful. But a big NO for old people and children.
There is no such menu for food. Based on whether you prefer veg or non-veg, you must get along with what they serve which is quite homely and tasty.

Made a qyick trip to wayanad on December 26 to December 28. Drove down from Mumbai on 25th. Visited Mookambika shrine and reached Wayanad via Coorg on 26th evening. Wayanad is a magical place. We stayed at a home stay called Ela Blooms at Tholayiram estate and reached there around 7 PM. Ela Blooms is a resort with essentials in place. Good clean rooms and clean washrooms. That's about it. They harness electricity through their own micro hydel power sufficient for lighting. There are no air conditioners (you don't need one). Ela Blooms have solar heating for water and when that does not work they get you hot water into your rooms for a wash.they have a dining area . Mainly kerala food is on offer. They have some conventional rooms built in concrete. And they have a mud house set about 200 mtrs downhill from the main complex. And then they have a Cave House about half a km down hill from the main structure. When we went the Cave House was under renovation. This was an actual cave between huge boulders. We were staying there for 2 nights. And we had a bon fire on the first night. A moon lit night. I have always felt there is a kind of magic on a full moon night.especially in the hills. The trees and the mountains take whole new meaning glowing in the moon The staff at Ela Blooms were very cheerful and we enjoyed our stay there. We quite liked the philosophy of Ela Blooms in ensuring sustainable ecology letting nature take its course. Tholayiram estate is largely untouched land offering lots of trekking opportunities. Good to walk around.uphill downhill... and dip in the cool streams around.

Who feels safe, surrounded by trees... Who get relaxed, listening to the forest tunes... Who loves to lose your way, wandering in the narrow paths... Who wants to re energize, by dipping yourself in the wild stream...
Ela blooms is the place you should look forward and try spending few day. A place, 4000+ feet above the sea level on the mighty Western Ghats in the middle of a cadmium farm.
Away from laptop, away from mobile signals, away from AC comforts, away from concrete forest, away from mad traffic... this place will make you aware that what life means and what you miss the most being in a civilized, rat race word !
Whether you are a writer, adventurer or someone who just want to recharge his/her batteries, you find home in this place.
Adding to this, the traditional local cuisine at its best to treat your taste buds and the down to earth staff make you feel like coming back to this place again and again.
I am a third timer and I look forward to visit again...

It was all preplanned, a two night stay. Four bikers (180 Apache, 220 Avenger & 200 NS) started their journey from Bangalore towards Gods own Land. GPS showing route between all greenness up and down hill. Reached destination, Ela Blooms first man to meet with a four wheel drive to take us to ours destination was Shiju. 2/2.5 kms uphill Shiju guided us drive our bike through completely off road bikers arena, showed us the place for bike parking and then took us on ela blooms jeep uphill through some form of breath taking roller coaster ride. We finally reached to stay in a 17.4 acres private property with a initial feel of all is ours. Room has all basic needs, but i would like to request Peter to look for ventilation in the rooms inspite of ceiling fans, hangars and cloth hanging hooks to be looked for an added provision.
Above all we all were feeling the beauty of cardamom and coffee plantation with a full hearted friendly presence and support from Pradeep & Peter.
We had great food (specially bonfire, camping and grill). We did fishing. Trekked and visited Cave House (a great concept).
Did some very high stamina Trekking to reach till the top of Chembra Peak (highest peak in Wayanad, at 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) above sea level). Followed by Stream walk and bath (thanks Siju).
A lot more to write as these all were first of experience for all four of us.
Thanks for the Ela Blooms concept of looking wayanad in an adventurous and crazy way.
Great work Peter and Team.

Ela blooms is a great place very close to nature, with a very generous host Peter and his courteous staff.
++ Rooms were big, very tidy and comfy ++ Awesome service, regional food served ++ Loads of activities to do like trekking, fishing, camping, archery etc etc .. ++ No TVs/Internet/bad mobile signal reception - spend time with nature and your family :) -- No water heater, you can overhear noises/talks from other rooms - but manageable -- Bit over-expensive

A quiet weekend, away from the hustle n bustle of the city, that would be ElaBlooms.(Nearest town Meppadi being 15km away) An Eco-resort right inside the forest, with an extremely warm host, Peter, and an equally awesome crew. (Special mention to the cook, Unnyettan, whose dishes are to die for!) To reach Elablooms you would have to take an exciting jeep-ride 6km uphill from kalladi bridge(Of-course Elablooms provides the pickup and drop facility).
At Ela, there are loads of activities like trekking, fishing, camping etc. Trek through the rain-forest, jump into the pool amid the rocks, play in the natural stream, track down a tusker, Ela has it all! If you are lucky enough, you could spot a deer or an elephant or the Malabar squirrel on your way.
Its not everyday you keep your hands off of TV/mobile/Internet and just sit around the fire and talk, or stay quiet and just listen to nature. But you get to do that at Ela. Do not miss the campfire at the night and do spend some time stargazing(the night sky from such an altitude's beyond words!).
The place provides pretty comfortable stay, with views right into the forest, n those of you who wish to stay closer to the nature, should opt for the mud-house!
In-short an amazing place for nature and wildlife enthusiasts! I am certainly visiting again!!
