Watoga State Park is a vast public space with a forest of mixed hardwoods and softwoods, some of which are very mature and stately, giving us an idea of what the woods were like 200 years ago. I've been spoiled by Blackwater and Canaan for years, but wanted to check out nearby Cranberry Glades and Greenbriar River Trail. Watoga is an old, huge park - with a nice trail system for sure. You can bike or drive to quickly jump on the Greenbriar River Trail, which is awesome. Cranberry Glades is about 20 minutes away by car...

This camping area is nestled in the mountains of WV and is beside the Greenbrier River. There is a lake within the state park and there are cabin rentals, also. Watoga State Park is located in the middle of many outstanding mountain biking trails and a great place to use as a home base. The trails that we ride are free and range to over 4,000 feet in elevation with spectacular views. The park consists of 10,100 acres filled with a multitude of recreational activities including hiking, swimming, horseback riding, fishing and boating. Watoga has 34 cabins: 10 modern (8 sleep four and 2 sleep eight). 24 standard cabins (sleeps 2-6 people). Modern cabins feature forced air furnace and stone fireplace. Standard cabins are log and stone construction with natural stone fireplaces. All cabins are equipped with electric lighting, appliances, bathrooms with showers, modern kitchen with cooking utensils, dishes, flatware, bed linens and towels. Modern cabins are open year-round. Standard cabins open last weekend in April and close the fourth Monday in October. ... more   less
