I enjoyed staying at The Preston County Inn in Kingwood. The rates were decent and although the rooms were smaller compared to other places, they clearly are working hard to improve things over time and we appreciated it.

This place could be great, but it's not. I have stayed in alot of b&b's, hotels and family run establishments and this place was simply peculiar, unwelcoming & guests are an inconvenience. No signage for where to check in, no-one around. No info given at all or in the room. No way to get coffee or drinks. Downstairs lounge area... More

We were in Preston County and the Inn was a pretty hard place to miss. We thought we could try it out and I'm glad we did. It's locally owned and the owners work there too. The rooms were clean and in good condition. They are working on improvements but are constricted with the historical value of the building. We... More

I stayed at the Preston County Inn B&B for four nights while I was traveling for business. The building has a traditional charm and I found it warm and welcoming. I would recommend them to my friends or family who would enjoy the historic surroundings of the hotel and town.

I stay at The Preston County Inn every year. The staff there are all very friendly and helpful with any accommodation they can provide. The atmosphere is very warm and I am always very satisfied when I stay.

My husband and I drove through the area on our way home from our first anniversary trip, and to add to the adventure, we didn't plan where we were staying ahead of time. We just picked a place in a town on our route once we were within 45 minutes of it. We picked this lovely inn out of the... More

While searching for a place in Morgantown, WV (for my dog and me), this Inn popped up. Although the reviews on other sites were mixed, I decided to give it a try... What I found was a place of contrast.. (NOTE: I liked the place, and even added a night to my stay)... On one hand, the owner is quiet,... More

I'm totally appalled that ANYONE would give this place a positivie review, but I will be honest. I checked in earlier this week with my daughter. My husband made the reservation while I was travelling home, and totally exhausted. Had I been able to drive further, I would NEVER had stayed here, and will never grace the doors again. The... This Inn reminds me of traveling in the 1950s. It is a local treasure, with a good restaurant and popular with locals. The rooms are a little primitive, but clean. They're comfortable, but not someplace you'd want to spend extra time in, almost like the second guest bedroom in your aunt's house. The public rooms are furnished with antiques, and... More

I write this a cou7ple of hours after arrival. The bed room (do not take room 23) was the smallest I have ever seen in travels all over the globe, even smaller than those in a London terrace house. A portable air conditioner is clumsily duct-taped onto a propped- open and duct-taped window, so extraneous noises are not excluded. The... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Inn was constructed in the Civil War era by James A. Brown, an attorney and a graduate of West Virginia University. He fell in love with a beautiful girl named Isabel who was from Baltimore. They were married and the house was given to Isabel as a wedding gift from her loving husband. Highlighting the exterior decoration of the house was the roof; in large letters of light colored slate was the word "home." Through the years and change of owners, this was either removed or covered with new roofing. Much of the front part of the home has been restored to its original nature. There are a total of seven fireplaces in The Inn, three downstairs and four upstairs. The hearths and mantels have been refinished and restored to their original condition. Guest sleeping rooms were added in 1948 as a new addition to the inn. Also included in this large addition were the large kitchen and dining room. We are happy that you are here and hope you will enjoy your time with us in our historical surroundings. We will strive to make your dining a pleasure and an experience that you will long remember. In addition to our inn accommodations we also have banquet space and our very own 150-seat restaurant, Maxime's. Our first Maxime's originated in the upper Northwest corner of Washington state in the small coastal community of Stanwood. Maxime's was named after my great uncle whom I had the pleasure of growing up around. In the seven years we were open, we were voted "best restaurant" seven times along with other "best of" awards (examples of which include steak, seafood, ambiance, lunch dinner and outdoor dining). Our goal at Maxime's is to provide quality culinary entrees with excellent service at a reasonable price. We felt that the inn would provide a great setting to continue the tradition we started in the Pacific Northwest. Executive Chef Jean-Manuel Guillot (a graduate of the C.I.A.) and his wife Deborah feel they can restore the inn as a place to dine. ... more   less

“Who wrote the glowing and misleading evaluations I found on the site? Family and friends? I am being totally honest here with these criticisms. My advice? Go elsewhere. An historic building in itself is not enough to warrant high prices for sub-standard accomodation and a breakfast to take to your own tiny room to consume..”
