October is a breezy time to visit: watching the water with its white caps, enjoying the wind, and great rainbows. The Commanders Beach House is situated right next to the water, in easy walking distance to restaurants, and to main street with its shops, museums. The beach is right in front of the garden; another is a five minute drive... More

Stayed in the Commander's Beach House for a week while building a Pygmy Kayak. The project was great fun and Jim and Gail went out of their way to make certain we were comfortable throughout our stay - offering guidance on places to eat, local lore and activities that would fit within our tight schedule.

Gail & Jim~ Your place is great! And so was breakfast. We love Port Townsend and plan on looking you up again. The "Lighthouse" room was very nice and perfect for the 3 of us. Plus everything was within walking distance and having our "Commander" destination was a perfect get away. Hope you connect with another Laborador pup soon! Thanks... More

Loved our stay in the Lighthouse Suite this weekend. Hosts friendly, knowledgeable & fun. A few minutes' stroll to tons of cafés, restaurants, bars & shopping in the town center. Enjoyed the whole experience- will be back.

Take a break and hang out for a few days. The proprietors, Jim and Gail will welcome you to their cozy home. Jim provided us with a glass of wine, recommendations for local dining and access to the porch, and living room to hang by the fire. We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite and enjoyed listening to the water lapping... More

Over the Columbus Day holiday my wife and I celebrated her birthday by staying at The Commander's Beach House in Port Townsend, WA. The wonderful B&B is right on the water and affords a beautiful view of Mt. Baker. Our hosts Jim and Gail were gracious and friendly and the service they provided was outstanding. By the end of the... More

This is a bed and breakfast; Trip Advisor must think it's a hotel and is asking me to rate it as a hotel. But it's not; it's a B&B. It' in a house that was originally built for the military officer in charge of the port, or something like that. A great location on the beach. Great food. The owners... More

I spent a weekend with an old friend at The Commander's Beach House and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite which had a fabulous view, was wonderfully decorated and was spotless. Beds were extremely comfortable. The owners, Gail and Jim, were delightful and very friendly. They made dinner reservations for us, made... More

I had a girl's weekend in Pt. Townsend and we stayed at The Commander's Beach House. First of all the proprietors of this great B&B, Gail and Jim, went up and beyond the "call of duty". They are absolutely the best!!! We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite which was beautiful. I am having a hard time writing this review because... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Commander's Beach House is the only bed and breakfast that is located right on the water in downtown Port Townsend. You can walk on the beach to Fort Worden or easily stroll three blocks along the water front to all of the downtown shops and restaurants. Three of our rooms face the water and have private baths. Our fourth room faces the garden and has a shared bath located inside of the room. You can enjoy views of Admiralty Inlet, Mt. Baker, Whidbey Island, all of the boats and ships that go into Seattle, as well as vintage wooden schooners and yawls. Eagles, herons, otters and seals are frequently seen by our guests. A full sit down gourmet breakfast is served at individual tables or on our veranda, weather permitting. Come fall asleep lulled by the sounds of the sea and "relax and solve nothing"! ... more   less
