At the Hilton Garden Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the service garners applause for its attentive and professional staff, although occasional lapses are noted. The prime oceanfront location is a highlight, with guests loving the easy access to beachside activities. However, the value proposition is marred by hidden costs and pricey amenities.
While some rooms impress with their views and spaciousness, issues with noise, temperature, and cleanliness are a concern. The hotel's atmosphere and amenities receive mixed reviews, with commendations for the view tempered by remarks on the cool pool and costly valet parking.

Hotel's Favourite
Outstanding location for vacation for Fourth of July weekend. Parking was across the street and we arrived early enough to miss the crowds arriving for checkin. Our room was ready 30 minutes before checkin at 4 pm. We used the app to checkin and used the digital key. We got the oversized queen suite. It was perfect for a family of four with space to spread out. The sofa bed in the front room was the best I had seen and very comfortable. The views were amazing. This room type was a corner room so we could see more of the beach and boardwalk. The hotel room service starts at 5 pm daily. I wish room service was available all day because of the random cravings of the toddlers. We explored several seafood restaurants that were less than a five minute walk away. Every restaurant had child friendly menus. Breakfast at the hotel was amazing due to the buffet. You could order omelets and pancakes at the grill for no additional charge. We went to Ocean Breeze waterpark and it took maybe 10 minutes to drive. The hotel location is great. The pool and lobby were well maintained. Although I saw complaints about the elevator we never experienced a wait more than five minutes on the July 4th holiday. Our only complaint was the loudness of the music that played nightly. For some the noise is great but as a family with kids we had to wear them out during the day to avoid them staying up all night complaining about the music. We will definitely come back.

My wife and I had a nice stay at the hotel last week. The hotel is right on the boardwalk and offers great ocean view rooms with a balcony. If you're going on a beach trip, you definitely want an ocean view and this place did not disappoint. As this portion of the beach is part of the fly over path for fighter jets, you get a free air show during the day. Free garage parking (which charges non-guests $10 a day) is only a block away and I was able to unload the car in front of the hotel before going to park in the garage. This hotel is doing a great job of taking the proper precautions during the pandemic. A few days before our arrival, I received a phone call from the hotel informing me of the measures they were taking to keep guests safe. While there was an occasional guest not wearing a mask inside, that's no different from going anywhere during these times. All of the hotel staff wore masks and your room is "sealed" to show that no one has entered since they cleaned it before your arrival.

The Hilton Garden (and I believe other Hilton properties) allowed me and my wife to stay at this hotel free of charge for working in hospital care.. HUGE humanitarian offer during this time of pandemic and greatly appreciated! The lobby, hallways, and rooms were incredibly clean without smelling like chemicals. Included parking was conveniently located across the street in a protected garage (normal parking anywhere at the oceanfront during tourist season is $10/day). The room was spacious and offered a great view, but the TV interface felt dated and limited (I recommend considering a more intuitive and responsive program guide service). Understandably, food services were not provided at the hotel but we wish we would've been informed at check-in which would help us plan ahead.. however they did provide menus of local restaurants that were still operating for take-out. Overall a fantastic stay and would recommend to anyone visiting the oceanfront!

I wrote a review 4 years ago after staying for a long weekend and hate that I'm writing another at the opposite end of the rating scale. I am so sad this hotel has had such a massive decline in for services (I get it, the virus) and amenities. It's lost its upscale feel and now just resembles an overpriced hotel. The sani-tab on the door leads you to believe the room has been thoroughly sanitized as will the smell of bleach when you walk in. That's where the cleanliness stops. We had prepared ourselves and were armed with lysol wipes. We were NOT prepared for the amount of absolute nastiness we cleaned up. Every surface. There was no way this room was sanitized. Had we taken a closer look upon arrival we would not have stayed. As it was we had already changed rooms because our first room was visibly disgusting and smelled. Attached are pictures of splatters left on surfaces, dust, a bottle top (which, had the room been vacuumed, would have been seen or pushed farther under the bed), the list goes on. For as long as this hotel was at near zero capacity there was plenty of time to fix, replace and sanitize every inch of every room. At $400 a night there's no doubt this hotel pays for itself with money left over. To remain upscale and competitive, furnture and fixtures really should be replaced or at lease updated,, every 3 or 4 years. I am so disappointed that my favorite became a no return. 🥺

We stayed in this hotel in the beginning of June 2020. Just after opening from the COVID 19 stay at home orders. We had a party of 4 adults and opted to pay extra to get a larger room. The larger rooms are on the north side of the building on I believe all the floors. They are typically the two rooms nest to each other such as 601 & 602. There are 14 floors to the hotel. We were very pleased with the room. When you walk into the room there is a living room area with a pull out couch, two furniture chairs, a three drawer chest of drawers with a 42” (I believe that was the size) TV. A desk and roller chair and a coffee table. Turn to the right and there is a small hallway with a full bathroom with a stand up roomy shower with excellent water pressure. Next to the bath still in the hall is a small area with a micro wave, sink, coffee maker and mini fridge. At the end of the hall is the bedroom area with two queen beds, a chest of drawers with a TV on top a furniture chair and side table. Directly off the bedroom is the balcony with a very good view of the ocean. We had room 601 on the end so we had a view of the street the side and the ocean. The air conditioning worked great. If you are like us, we like a cool temperature for our hotel rooms. In the lobby there is a restaurant off to the left called Lagerheads. We did eat here, excellent food. See my specific review on the restaurant in another post. They also offer breakfast in another restaurant area but we didn’t use this service. Functionality wise, there are two elevators that get a lot of use! Don’t be impatient you will get back to your room. A lot of people have to use them. It goes with the territory of staying on the beach. Staff was very nice. For parking, you can self park in the garage about a half a block west of the hotel. I recommend self parking. It really isn’t that far. I am a valet kind of gal myself but the parking isn’t that far away that I would pay 16/day plus tips for the valet staff. We did have some issues with the card working in the machine for the parking, but the staff fixed it up immediately so no further issues happened. My only recommendation for this hotel wold be that they are in need of a carpet upgrade in the rooms but that will not prevent us from coming here again. Our son is stationed in NAS Oceana so it’s really convenient to visit him and get in the Beach time for a little vacation. This is our new go to hotel.

Here are my thoughts on the Hilton Garden Inn….
The location is great, close to lots of restaurants, King Neptune, shops. The hotel itself is nice, I felt the 2 queen bed room on the sun deck was spacious and the sun deck was nice to sit and relax, or just to watch the waves at the beach. The buffet breakfast was good and it was nice to be able to order omelets, French toast, pancakes on top of what was already served hot. The food at Lager Heads was good. The service was slow, even when the restaurant wasn’t busy. The food expediter was a bit rude and basically tossed our food on the table. The hotel staff was friendly and followed through on requests. The day we checked in we had a few issues and engineering came up within 30 mins to fix the problems, although I believe these non functioning items should have been taken care of and noticed when the staff did the walk through before we checked in. I felt it was pretty tedious to have to call the front desk for everything we needed, like towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, to take our dirty towels and garbage. I understand that the rooms weren’t being cleaning due to understaffing but what I think would at least be fair, is housekeeping come everyday to every room and take care of these things, after all we are on vacation and calling the front desk everyday to do these things seems a bit much for the price-tag on this property. Also, upon arrival and the one day we had our room fully cleaned, I don’t believe the floors got washed because our feet were black and filthy from walking barefoot. The room balconies should also be swept because it was full of sand from previous guests. I also think it would be nice to have a second washer and dryer for guests to use. People on beach vacations tend to actually do laundry because they want to wash swimsuits and beach towels. All in all, I would consider this hotel again but not until this pandemic is completely over and I do thank the staff that are working and trying to make this hotel great.

Very pleasant stay. Upon entering my hotel room, the room seemed very clean. However I did bring my own wipes and lysol to sanitize the room myself so that I could feel more comfortable. My wipes did not have additional dirt on it so I felt good. I saw staff a few times wiping down common areas and there were plenty of sanitizer gel around for guest to use. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was in a good location, walking distance from many eateries and the boardwalk and beach. I was pleased with my stay.

We reserved two rooms for a family vacation - hotel overall was very nice and it was in a good location, however, one of our rooms had a broken toilet that made a screeching sound all night. The other had an issue with the heater/ air conditioning unit and it was so loud it was difficult to sleep when it would kick on. The pool was freezing cold. They advertised a heated, indoor pool, but we could not even get in it because it was so cold. They said one of the heaters was down, but I had called the day before to make sure the pool was heated and able to be used and I was told it was 82 degrees. It felt like someone threw ice in it when we got there. We actually left after the first night due to not being able to use the pool or sleep well with the noises in the room. Lots of other options on the beach I would try before staying here again.

My husband and I spent two nights (9/25-9/26) just for a get-away to the beach. The good news is that the staff were pleasant and helpful. We found the valet guy (though he didn't park our car) particularly friendly.
BAD NEWS: Despite us asking for a room refresh during the day on Saturday (new coffee pods, fresh towels, new amenities, etc...) we received NO maid service. At just under $250/night, when there are lots of hotels with comparable rooms on the oceanfront, this is unacceptable.
Oh! and we couldn't get the tv to pull up the local stations. Not worth a call to the desk, but annoying nonetheless.
I imagine they'll use the COVID excuse for why they didn't clean, but to us, there's no excuse.
Next time we'll choose a different hotel

The location and staff are great! The rooms are adequate. Furniture needs to be updated especially given the hotel branding and price. Since the rooms are not cleaned daily unless you request at least 24 hours in advance, you should ask for or bring extra toilet paper and towels. Requesting these items doesn't mean immediate service. Very long and delayed waits up to a full day. I know that this is due to limited staff which we did not know until we had been there for a few days. So be prepared in advance as much has changed due to COVID and staffing is difficult. Families should be aware that drinking is allowed by the pools and many drink in the pool and display really inappropriate behavior for children. The behavior makes adults feel uncomfortable as well. Seems like the staff can not help with regards to this issue. They stated that the hotel does not control this.

The hotel does not offer loungers. Instead there is a rental company that offers loungers and umbrellas for rent. They have several stands up and down the whole beach but had a rental stand right behind the hotel. It is very easy to use. We brought our own because we did not know this before we arrived. Please note it still was pricy. I think $35 each. This adds up after a couple of days.
I’m not sure, we didn’t use it. BUT the rooms are very very nice and all of them have a full ocean view. Love it!
