I stayed here one night and was satisfied. The hotel is right in downtown Roanoke and across the street from the civic center. The front desk clerks are friendly and helpful. My room was a king bed and was clean and everything worked, such as A/C and TV channel selection was good. The WiFi was reliable and download speeds about 20 Mbps. Probably the only thing I didn't like was the all-wood floor because it was raining the night I checked in, which means my wet shoes got little squishy wet spots all over the floor wherever I walked. All the high end hotels have carpeted rooms so that should tell you something, right? They need to put a 3'x3' rug near the door so you can put your wet shoes there and have a dry floor to walk around barefoot on a rainy night. This is just common sense. There is a Sheetz convenience store you can walk to about 100 yards away for your beverage and snack needs. They have a $100 deposit required for non-smoking rooms so I paid cash and got it back the next morning when I checked out.

Good value overnight option and happy with our choice to stay here. Front desk staff was friendly at check-in, room was clean and had good amenities (fridge/microwave), and dogs can stay with you. Ideal for motorists, but also accessible to downtown by a 30-minute walk (not super pedestrian-friendly, but there are sidewalks the entire way).

Great location to Civic Center. The staff was friendly. The room was very clean. The interior of the room resembled a much higher end hotel. I would stay there again. The room rate was reasonable. I was traveling solo and I was very comfortable.

Long review ⚠️ Please read until the end. The evening we arrived at the hotel, my husband noticed the toilet was not flushing correctly. It began to fill up like it was going to overflow. We called the front desk and the lady told him there was a plunger by the trash can outside the hotel. It was late so we just decided to go to bed, and deal with it in the morning. When we woke, I called the front desk again and told the guy my name and room number. I explained that our toilet was not working and also proceeded to tell us about the plunger. My husband went to retrieve the so called plunger. When he returned to try to use it, he realized the rubber part was broken. I told the guy it was broken. He said "was it broken when we got it or did you break it?" I told him it was already broken. He said there was another one on the other side of the hotel, so my husband went to retrieve it. I said "is there not a maintenance person available?" He said "NO! I am the maintenance guy, the manager, and the front desk clerk." I said okay. Now comes the fun part... The manager proceeded to tell me that I was lucky to have not been kicked out of the hotel the night before. When I asked what he was talking about, he said "You had 2 male visitors last night and we have a strict no visitors policy!" I told him I absolutely did not have any visitors. He said, "They knew you, your name, what you were driving." I continued to argue with him that my husband and I did not arrive at the hotel until late. We got ready for bed and laid down. He said "Yes he knew that and so did the 2 male visitors." By this point, I was PISSED! I told him I would be down soon to check out I was done. Minutes later, he was knocking at our door. I let him in and told him the toilet was fixed. He asked if he could look at it and explain what happened. He explained that he had the wrong room and wrong person. We both said nothing. He said he would just shut up and apologized for the mix up again. By this point, I was so perturbed at the accusations he had made, all I wanted was to go home. He left and we finished gathering our things. My husband locked up and gave me the hotel key to go check out. I walked in to the lobby wanting to speak my mind before we left, but realized a young child was behind the desk with him. So, I gathered myself and tried to be as polite as I could be, not wanting to cause a scene in front of the child. He kept trying to explain how he messed up and he would make adjustments to our bill. I said "I appreciate the apology," took the bill and ran to my vehicle as it was snowing. My husband reviewed the bill and noticed we were credited.....wait for it... $10. Yes $10.00! We had to laugh about it and started our 2 hour drive home. I was a bit upset that our Valentine’s weekend getaway ended that way. I called Econo Lodge headquarters and placed a complaint against this hotel, but wanted to let you all know how disrespectful this manager was to his guests.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our hotel. We apologize for failing to exceed your expectations. We have been operating the hotel since April 2013. Since then, we have replaced 10,000 sq/feet of flat roof, 100% of the sink and bathtub drains and faucets. We have also installed curved shower bar in every bathroom. We have also replaced 100% of the bed base and mattresses. We have also upgraded our Internet infrastructure to ensure a guest would have at least 80% signal anywhere in the hotel including the parking lot. We have also renovated every room with new lights, 40" LED TV with HD channels, new bathroom door and frame and new higher toilets. We have also replaced 100% of the furniture in every room. We have also finished a big masonry project to update the exterior of the hotel. We have painted the exterior of the hotel and finished replacing carpet with hard floor in 100% of the rooms. In addition, we have also finished paving the parking lot In October 2018. We have changed 100% of the drapery and seal coated our parking lot. We are proud of the improvements we have made to the hotel in a such short time; however, we are not finished yet. I am confident that we will be able to keep improving the overall condition of the rooms to meet expectations from our guest. Again, our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your valuable feedback. Bhavik Patel General Manager

I stayed at this hotel because it had the lowest rate in the city and I just needed a place to crash. I really did not expect a good experience as cheap hotels usually mean cheap hotels. I must say I was REALLY impressed with this hotel. For one, it was really cheap at only $65 a night. Secondly, it looks like attempts has been made to make the place look newer as this is an older hotel but the owner is doing a lot of great things to the place. The room was VERY clean, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was clean, the place was quite, the location was excellent. Lastly, the owner was a VERY impressive person. He treated me like a family member and was a very nice person. This experience caused me to book a second night later in the week. I was very impressed with this experience and admit the owner was an excellent host and very nice man. I look forward to coming back to his hotel and thank him for his kindness and nice personality. It made the experience perfect for me. Would highly recommend this location to people needing the downtown Roanoke area experience.

Overall, I would give this Econo Lodge a 3.9 out of 4 stars. First off, this is a very clean motel with a friendly and polite staff. The rooms are spacious and include wood floors, recently renovated rooms, mini fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, single serve coffee maker, hair driver, relatively new furniture, and wall mounted 32" tv with a lot of channels. The shower also has fantastic water pressure. The king room I was in also included a couch that I'm assuming folds out to a bed, but I didn't check. All the lights are wall mounted and there are plenty of outlets throughout the room including next to each side of the bed. All the rooms include a reasonably fast wifi connection. This is a simple motel, so few amenities. No pool, conference room or exercise room, etc. The continental breakfast room next to the front desk is currently closed due to covid 19. However, there is a grab bag at checkout that includes bottled water, a granola bar and honey bun. The ice machine and vending machine are in their own room at the end of the building. So then cons with the hotel are limited and may perhaps be local to the room I stayed in. The window curtain doesn't cover the window completely leaving a small opening. For full privacy, you may need to pull the curtain over the door knob. The recent renovation of the bathroom left a small opening at the door closure, perhaps a 1/16 of an inch. For the low price I paid, this is one of the best motels I've stayed in and would recommend it to all those traveling to or through Roanoke.
