My wife and I celebrated our 20 year anniversary in this beautiful setting. Our hosts Michael and Russell made our stay one to remember! Excellent wine and food, very comfortable room with spectacular views of the surrounding valley. We will definitely be returning for more! Gavin & Claire

The location, decor, service and amenities of the Star Hotel are very good. My sister and I enjoyed the peace and quiet and the historical and picturesque aspect of Walhalla. Continental breakfast and dinner were excellent. One minor thing to add to the comfort would be tissues in the bathroom - however we were extremely pleased with our choice of...

We were part of a group of fifteen people meeting at this fine establishment to celebrate life and friendship. Michael and Russell pulled out all the stops to ensure we were very well looked after and all enjoyed a relaxing, comfortable and memorable weekend. Excellent dinner, brilliant service and more than adequate continental breakfast included in the weekend deal. Fine...

Really enjoyable weekend. Great hospitality from the host, great food and atmosphere for a beautiful weekend away. Room well appointed and comfortable. Highly recommended and one of the best get-aways for a weekend away from the hustle of the city.

Can't fault the well-appointed accommodation. Excellent and attentive hosts. A couple of nights at the Star was very relaxing. Excellent value for money. There was no wi-fi or tv and our mobile phones were out of range......we enjoyed that because it was relaxing to be away from the world for a few days. Very interesting historical sites, all well signposted....

Walhalla is an old gold mining town, quite a drive away off everything in Victoria. There is not really much to do, except enjoying walks and nature. Although Walhalla is small, location of this property is excellent - right in the centre of the place. Hotel looks old, though in reality it isn't - it has been rebuilt some 20...

Booking was easy, online. A dozen of us arrived after a long motorbike ride through the hills, rang the doorbell, and were greeted with great efficiency despite the sudden surge of activity. All our details were ready in advance and we were quickly shown to our rooms. Much of the accommodation is upstairs, on the first floor, which we occupied...

The proprietors are friendly and I'm sure care about the place but they should call it what it is and price it accordingly. It is not by any stretch a "luxury, boutique hotel" which can justify $250 a night. Our room was large but the furniture was basic and tatty. No TV and very unreliable Wifi. Poor reading lighting. Very...

Thanks for your email and feedback. You should note that we do not describe ourselves as "luxury boutique hotel" on our own website: starhotel. com. au however 3rd party websites like booking .com do. They obviously want to get that sale. We have our rooms available on our website from 149 dollars, what other 3rd parties sell our rooms at...

Two days of the long weekend at The Star. First time in this town for over 30 years – during which it burnt down & was rebuilt - & from my memory it looks almost the same. Approx. 12 rooms – some up some steep stairs – they can become a bit much after several trips. Our room was quite...

Walhalla is a small and pretty old gold mining town set in the heart of a valley. The charming Star Hotel is a lovely place to stay with everything within easy walking distance. In addition to the warm welcome, there was complimentary tea and coffee, and our room was large comfortable with a spotless bathroom. Breakfast available. Thanks for the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Winner of the LCBTA "People's Choice" Award for 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Located in the heart of Walhalla opposite the famous band rotunda, the Star Hotel provides boutique accommodation with large modern rooms all with ensuite, king beds [twins available], CD player and air-conditioning. A visit to Walhalla and the Star is about stepping back in time to relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this hidden mountain village. Leave your mobile phone at home as they don't work here...if you can't miss your favourite TV program Walhalla probably isn't a good choice as TVs don't work in the deep valley either! The internet is limited too, so it's great "tiime out" destimation. A trip to Walhalla and a stay at Walhalla's Star Hotel provides a chance unwind and explore the amazing gold-era history of the township including the mountain railway, daily gold mine tours, heritage walks and fascinating hillside cemetery. ... more   less
