First weekend away in 2 years & since before lockdown. It was our anniversary this weekend & we were looking forward to a much needed break away. Lovely quirky warm pub.Food was good value for money, the best nachos we have ever eaten! Can not fault the staff. Very helpful, genuine & friendly people. Nice view's & central location making our stay easier to navigate around the island & places we wanted to go. Attention to detail is needed for accommodation. On a positive the shower was awesome, very powerful & instant hot water. Our room was clean but needs updating. Shaving light did not work in the bathroom. Mould on bathroom ceiling. Had the worst 2 nights sleep! Mattress was so uncomfortable, bedding is very old & we were itching all the time. Had to remove the bed head as was very loose. Such a shame. We had been looking forward so much to our weekend away. After 0 sleep we had no energy & moods were low (if you get my meaning) This really did over shadow our stay here. Can only give 2 stars for this reason. A good night's sleep is part of your break & stay away from home.We left with bad backs, very tired & some what disappointed. Don't usually leave reviews. I felt we had to.This is such a great place with so much to offer. We hope these issues can be addressed & we will visit again. For now looking forward to a good night's sleep.

On first arriving, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, room was great and had everything you needed and was clean, room looked out onto busy main road but you couldn’t hear that with the windows closed, Had evening meal in restaurant and again the staff were excellent, the food was very tasty and plenty of it. Breakfast was great and again staff were accommodating Location is good for anywhere you need to go.

With only one night on the island we chose a centrally located pub with a good reputation and we weren't disappointed. What a warm and friendly atmosphere! The rooms are well presented, comfortable and well appointed. The food on offer is also extremely tasty, and excellent value with generous portions. I can't say enough about the staff, as they were brilliant. We would stay again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended. Oh, and the Haggis and neeps is awesome!

Wow! What a gem is The Stag! Booked online based on raving reviews - it lived up to them and beyond! The Stag is a recently refurbished guest house/pub/restaurant perfectly located in Newport near the centre of the island. A handy 20 minute drive from the ferry port at East Cowes. We were greeted by very friendly staff who quickly checked us in and helped with our luggage. The large free car park was very handy. Our room was clean, cosy and spacious and we were lucky to have the only room with a shower over the bath. Fresh linen was provided every day and we were always asked if we needed anything else. The WIFI connection was fantastic! Much better even than the large hotels on the mainland I have visited & very important for Autistic children! ☺️ We always had everything we needed and the cooked breakfasts were totally AMAZING! Best bacon ever! Even my son (who has a food intake disorder) loved the food so much. We dined in the restaurant a few times too and the homemade food is delicious, hot, fresh and good sized. The bar has a great selection of drinks and snacks, including Mermaid gin (made on the Island) and I was especially impressed that the bar had sugar free 7-Up & Sprite - something I don’t normally find. All the staff were so helpful, polite and supportive and went above and beyond for us. A special thank you to Stuart, Sal, Pat, Sabrina, Mitch and all the team. They showed us such warmth, love and compassion and were really accommodating to my son’s special needs. He didn’t want to come home & I felt so cared for the entire time. This really is a home away from home and these amazing people really made a difference to our lives. We can’t wait to return! I can not recommend highly enough!

I have used this pub/restaurant more than once it is marvellous the food is fantastic, especially the starter of haggis, and they bend over backwards to help if you have food requirements. The staff, owner and his lovely Mother are so willing and the welcome we get is not just for us they are lovely with all who come, dogs are welcome too. I can not say how great this restaurant/pub is for fear I will not get a booking next time a go.

Nice pub restaurant with B&B. Good friendly service. Lively music on PA system. We sat in the pleasant conservatory out the back. Looks like it's been refurbished recently. Smallish menu with tasty food to suit most people. Sundaes were particularly nice and good value for money. We will definitely go back.

We stayed here for our wedding night the room was comfortable and clean and tidy. The breakfast was lovely, we also went back for lunch which was delicious. The new managers are so friendly and welcoming. The interior design of the pub has been completed to good standard. Thankyou

Stayed again for the IoW festival. Stuart and Pat really know how to look after their guests! Rooms are great - really comfortable, clean and well appointed. Pat cooks a mean full English (or full Scottish rather!) Not around for dinner unfortunately but what we saw looked delicious! Looking forward to returning!
