Visited during the IoW Festival and this was a very welcome oasis away from the madness. Very homely little hotel above a restaurant, centrally located. Check in can be done in advance meaning it’s very quick when you arrive. Dean greeted us and was very informative and welcoming. Kate looked after us every morning with a lovely breakfast. Full English plus cereals, juices, yogurts etc. My partner didn’t fancy a full fry up so the chef made her a delicious omelette. It was extremely hot during our stay but unlimited bottled water was provided over and above the tea, coffee, water etc in the room. A nice touch. Bed very comfy and room well decorated. Nice spacious bathroom with shower and toiletries provided. There’s good sized garden area to the rest where you can relax with a drink rand the lunch and dinner menus looked fantastic. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to enjoy it due to being at the festival all day. Thanks for a great stay, can’t wait to return next year.…
We stayed at Hewitt's for two nights with dinner on the 2nd night. Kate, who checked us in, was charming and very helpful. She also looked after us for breakfast and nothing was too muchtrouble for her. The room was very comfortable, with a big ensuite bathroom. Dinner was great, I had the Skate Wing which was the biggest I have ever had. My husband had a large fillet steak, which he ate very happily. The venue has a garden which is great for pre-dinner drinks, weather permitting. If you eat at the restaurant, leave plenty of space for your dinner. Dean, front of house, was very friendly and made us fell relaxed and very chatty with us whilst Josh, the Chef, did an amaxing job in the kitchen. We will definately be back.
It’s the best place I’ve eaten for a while. It deserves the 5 star rating. The menu is so good lots of local produce creatively put together. The staff are brilliant the ambience is super. I’ll be back. Easy to book with fast response. There’s a public car park nearby.
Went for Sunday lunch as a family of 5. Delicious starters. The scallops were cooked beautifully and the cauliflower purée was lovely. The bacon with it was a bit salty and overpowering. The chicken livers were lovely. My son enjoyed the red pepper soup. The cooked Camembert was enjoyed with the delicious bread. The roasts were amazing. The brisket was done to perfection as was the belly pork with the best crackling ever. Described as a ‘little slice of heaven’. The bacon wrapped sausage was lovely but again the bacon was a bit too salty. Nice stuffing ball. The roast potatoes were good but again could be slightly more crispy but almost impossible to get in a restaurant but still very good. The Yorkshire puddings were huge and mine was perfect but many in the tables were just a tad overdone. Nice gravy. Nice vegetables to got with it. Lovely. We only had one pudding the brownie which was demolished! The staff were lovely and we had a lovely meal.…
Wow, what an amazing restaurant! The dining room was a picture, the garden was perfect for little ones to run around and the food was out of this world. Every guest complimented the chef on not only the range of choices, but that every meal was superb. All dietary requirements were catered for and I’ve never had such thick tender steak. We have become dedicated fans and would recommend this restaurant to everyone!
We booked a late staycation with little being available in IOW, and lucked out with this venue! The room (No5) was clean, huge, had a big comfy bed and neat bathroom. It’s big sash windows overlooked a sunny garden and was quiet. Continental breakfast was fresh and sufficient. The staff were welcoming and managed to fit us in last minute for dinner on 2 nights and we enjoyed lovely freshly cooked meals from an a la carte menu. This isn’t necessarily a ‘family’ hotel, but for 2 adults exploring the island, was perfect!
Having been to the Isle of Wight many times in the past, I have to say staying in the Hewitt's rooms was the most pleasurable! Before I booked a room at Hewitt's I had a few questions about the hotel, location, parking, baby cot, etc. So i rang up and spoke to Dean (the owner), a very polite and customer centric gentleman who was more than happy answering any of my queries and was very helpful in giving adbice on the various options on parking in the area. Throughout our stay Dean was always on hand to answer any queries and would greet us every morning of our 2-day stay at breakfast. Breakfast was delicious to say the least, and a great variety for all tastes! Whenever I come back to the Isle of Wight, I will be making Hewitt's my choice of accomodation! Keep up the good work guys!…
I was the first guest to stay in this newly refurbished hotel after the new owners had taken over. Check in was a pleasure and Dean really made the whole stay effortless and relaxing. The food and service is second to none but you only need to do a quick search of the restaurant to see that. This review will be the first of many great reviews I'm sure. I wish these guys all the best with their new added venture and I can't wait to visit again. Thank you!
I booked with the clear condition of free cancellation being available up to a certain date. I then unfortunately had to cancel, which I did well within the stated date. However phone calls, emails and letters have all gone unanswered and no refund received. I know hotels are having a difficult time this year, but they took the booking and payment on agreed terms and conditions, and have simply ignored that. Not even the courtesy of a reply.
Hewitts House is in the centre of Newport, on finding the place we were faced with a locked door so followed the instructions on the door to a reception desk at another location that they own. We were given a code and let ourselves in and found our key waiting on the bar. First floor of this property is a rather nice looking restaurant where we had tried to book a meal but was full booked. Our room had a large bed, blinds need some attention, hot tap wasn't attached to the sink, green algie near shower screen, T.V had had a hard time looked like it had been bent over at some point. A nice looking sofa but springs had gone. On a plus the room was clean and of good size. I had noticed that the restaurant closed at 11.00pm it sounded like the kitchen staff had invited all there mates in unless it was just the restaurant staff partying. With no regard to hotel guest they sang at the top of there voices with music blaring, thankfully they made a noisy exit at just gone midnight, leaving some people clearing up they left around 12.30. Breakfast was advertised to be served downstairs and instead was at a local tea rooms, luckily I had inquired the day before about what time breakfast was and then was informed that it wasn't at Hewitts house. I Couldn't say it was Covid safe in the cafe but breakfast was nice and friendly staff. Wasn't quite sure what to do at check out so left key back on bar downstairs as there was no-one about. We did go to the reception too discus our grievances at there other hotel but it was locked and we could see no-one was there. Very disappointed and tired the next day.…
