I can't say enough about this hotel. Beautiful views of Porto across the river from all rooms and restaurants, all the staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Each room is named after a wine or port and has items and decorations relating to that wine. Our room also had a number of books to read on the shelves from Portuguese authors, other books about Portugal, Porto and wine. The breakfast buffet selection is very large, with exotic fruits and juices, breads, pastries, cheese, meats, fish and hot dishes. They also have made to order omelets. We had wonderful meals in Dick's Bar, the Orangerie and in the Michelin starred restaurant, which I'll review under restaurants, if available.

The Yeatman is on top of a very steep hill in Gaia, but taxis are very reasonable and will take you to other areas of Gaia as well as across the river to Porto.

Beautiful views across Porto. The staff were exceptional. Breakfast was unbelieveable! Never had such amazing full breakfast - it offered anything and everything you wanted. They made our stay extra special and for dinner we were placed by the window over looking the shining City. Food at the restaurant was very tasty and worth the money. It was my partner's 40th birthday and they gave us a room overlooking the City and brought us champagne and a cake which was very lovely of them. The spa was fantastic! It was spacious so you didnt get a feel of the usual spa hotels' facilities and overcrowding. The swimming pool was amazing and the massage too. Definitely come back and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone going to Porto.

This is a 5 star hotel with a price to match. As a Chateau Relais hotel , you expect everything to be perfect. And for the most part ,it was. The public areas are absolutely stunning and the view over to Porto is breathtaking. You simply can't take your eyes off the vista. We liked the location. The major sights are across the river and none were more than a 10 Euro ride away. Of course the Port houses are along the river near the Yeatman. Rooms are large and luxurious, and the bed was very comfortable. We were in executive room with a private veranda and green space right outside the room. Once again the view over to Porto was stunning. The bathroom has a soaking tub and separate shower with French products. There is tons of storage and closet space. Be advised if you are on floors 1 through 4, you will have to take 2 different elevators and have quite a long walk to your room. However the hallways are beautifully decorated and the new building has lots of interesting decor. The concierge was very helpful with directions. The couple of things that they could do better: service at the pool and on the terraces was practically non existent. We and others had to track down the attendant to order drinks, the outside pool is freezing, and service in the lounges was also slow. The service in the gastronomic restaurant was excellent but the other areas were sadly lacking. The breakfast which cost 25 euros per person if you do not have it included with your room was disappointing. Items were not replenished and once again we had to chase down a wait staff for coffee . These are picky things but once again it's the service that distinguishes a Chateau Relais hotel. My only other trivial comment is every other Chateau Relais hotel I have stayed at, including another one in Portugal, had a small welcome gift in the room, this one did not.

Hotel faces Porto so has the best views with outside space and amazing views from all if not most bedrooms. The higher you are the more expensive room category though I think all are same or similar sizes.

Our room 208 was on 2nd floor in 'new' extension round the side closer to the bridge, so still great views and lovely balcony, open on 3 sides, very sunny. The room is huge and bright. The bed is one of the most comfortable ever with the softest linen. It has everything you would expect in 5 star hotel room, my only thought is that there should be a second comfortable chair as there is only one and if too cold to sit outside, only one person has the comfy chair, the other an upright desk chair, also there should be a small table with the comfy chair, there is so much space, it would not be overcrowded, otherwise a perfect lovely bedroom.

Note: all bedrooms on levels 1-3 you need to take 2 lifts, once navigated, its very easy. Plus, on several levels you have easy access direct to the large grassed terrace below the pool so no need to traipse down the interior corridors which wrap around the cliff. Also, when coming/going from outside, you can access with key card from level 4 to the security exit gate on side street.

We dined one night in the seating next to bar area. A limited but very good snack menu.

There is parking onsite, extra cost of €20 per night, the valet kindly park it for you and bring it back. Concierge also provided good recommendation for dinner, exactly what we wanted. Usually we have found in hotels the restaurants recommended by hotel are to be avoided, not so in this case!

I highly recommend staying here especially when weather is warm so can enjoy being outside with space and view to relax. Easy to walk over bridge to Porto.

My wife and I stayed at The Yeatman for our birthdays, covering 4 days. From arrival to departure, we were extremely impressed with the hotel, facilities, cleanliness, food and specifically the superb customer service levels. Having travelled extensively, the professionalism, courtesy and genuineingly helpful nature of all the staff encountered was commendable, and above and beyound expectations (even of a 5* hotel). We were treated to a complementary room upgrade, drinks, cakes and treats which just made the break exceptional and truly memorable. A definite '100% recommendation'..........

Wonderful hotel located just outside of Porto overlooking the city. Views are incredible. Staff is incredibly helpful and efficient. Staff is well trained throughout the hotel. Love the details such as a fully stocked mini fridge and a wonderful pillow selection. Bed was very comfortable. Room was large and spacious. The shower stall was very small but the tub was huge. Water pressure was fantastic. Breakfast at the hote was excellent. A huge selection of delicious fresh food.

My only real complaint was spotty Wifi throughout the hotel (except for the main lobby). It was extremely frustrating and can be easily fixed. Also, I wish the outdoor pool was heated. Pool was too cold to enjoy in mid-August. I am not sure why they don’t have it solar heated.

We had dinner at the Gastronomic Restaurant at the hotel. It was beyond delicious and beautifully presented. Each dish was not only tasty but a work of art. I highly recommend the memorable experience. It is a 4 hour tasting menu and they made superb accommodations for food allergies for one person in our party.

The area around the hotel is stunning and well manicured. There are many delicious restaurants in all budgets to go to near the hotel. Porto is easily accessible by walking, driving, boat ride or an inexpensive Uber ride.

Excellent views and good service . Food was good. Rooms were good.

Apart from the outstanding views nothing else was outstanding. Spa pool too cold , no staff , a lady fell over and hurt herself and no staff to help. Rooms were good but not of the standard one would expect for the price, you get much more value for money in the Middle East.

The breakfast was good but again limited options . If you don’t eat pork then there were limited hot alternatives.

The most annoying thing was being charged for parking . This really got my goat, at 355 euros per night I’d expect guests not to be charged like in most other luxury hotels I’ve stayed at.

It has a lovely relaxed feel about it I accept that but as stated above relies too much on its location and not enough on its attention to detail to warrant a five star review .

We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. The warm welcome at reception and glass of white port set the tone of understated, relaxed luxury. It has the feel of a historic hotel so we could hardly believe it was only 12 years old. Every room has a river view and a terrace and we soon got used to the slightly convoluted route down to our room via 2 lifts and 3 long corridors. We actually enjoyed stopping off at each floor at various points during our visit and looking at the art and the historical/wine information.
The Decanter pool was glorious and on a typical Porto foggy day, the indoor pool and spa area were a fine substitute.
The Sunday evening buffet at €70 each was our best meal. We were room only and found the room service breakfasts to be more than adequate plus cheaper than the €25 each for the breakfast buffet. If you are not dining in the gourmet restaurant, the selections for light evening meals in Dick's Bar or the Orangerie are limited. This was our only criticism. If you are tired out from a day walking around Porto and the final hard walk back up to the hotel, you may want to stay in place so the options available could be improved.
It is a 40 minute walk into Porto, down some streets and over the upper bridge. Gaia is closer but again, a steep climb back up. Tip- go through WOW, take the lift to floor 2, walk through Taylor's and you come to a side gate of the hotel.
The room was spacious, comfortable and had everything we need. All the staff were helpful and charming. This is a special hotel and I do not think you could do better in Porto.

Following the travels of the blog veganfoodquest, we thought we first come here for breakfast. Good idea! The price is right, the view spectacular, service top.
What stood out was the sparkling wine (also available upstairs in the shop) and the perfect soy-cappuccini! All served dishes (no buffet at the moment due to the GreatReset) were great. Vegans are treated well here.
The only ingredient that was not eatable was the unseasoned, unmarinated tofu on the mushroom pile.
To the breakfast room: avoid it and head to the terrasse if possible. It is surprisingly underwhelming! Almost everything is irritating esthetically. From the totally random charmless square tables to the lost wooden objects around the chimney to the color of the wood in the doors to the wannabe columns - muito errado! Apart from the entry, from what we saw of the hotel, it just looks expensive, but there is not much harmony in the architecture and beauty decoration. Hence we will likely not stay there, but would come back for lunch and dinner, given the ambience would be better then in the infamous breakfast place. Next time we will have some rooms shown to us. The spa already looks great, so if the rooms are convincing, we might stay there ;)
Maybe the owner should take the interior decorator to a trip to Vidago ;)

Urs very flat both sides of the river but hilly up to Porto town and back to Yeatman. Taxis are easy to find if you walk down and don't want the climb back.
