We spent two weeks in the ashram in November. The first week we had the ayurveda and yoga package, the second the yoga retreat. From the first moment we felt like coming home. We were welcomed in a very warm way and given the information we needed(also printed). The ayurveda treatments (prescribed by an Ayurveda Doctor) were sheduled the best way, so that we had time either to go for a walk or just to meditate before the evening yoga class. We started the day with a glass of delicious tea, followed by chanting and breathing exercises or purification. The yoga classes were really good.We had two different yoga teacher (one for the morning and the second for the evening class). Both are very patient, helping and advising each student the best way. We enjoyed the meditation sessions at the afternoon, followed by great inspirational talks with Yogiji, full of wisdom and love. The meals were always fresh made and very nourishing and delicious! Our favorite time was after the dinner, sitting around the fireplace, chatting or just enjoying the great energy. On Saturdays we had a "special event" - we visited the Beatles Ashram, meditated in a cave, enjoyed the Aarti, seen the surrounding area of Rishikesh. We had a great time, surrounded by great people and the best scenery we could dream of! Thanks to all of you and special to Jogiji for the unforgettable experience! Namaste Rado & Eli

I stayed the ashram for over 2 weeks and had an amazing experience. The location is out of this world, right next to mother ganga yet still close to all rishikesh has to offer. Food was delicious, every meal was fantastic. Yoga was tough but so satisfying, Harsh and Vicky really helped strengthen my practice. Loved chanting first thing in the morning. By the end of my stay I felt part of the family. Thank you to Yogi Ji, Annika for your hospitality and Kailash for being so damn cute. Loved the doggies Peace and Shanti. Was colder than I expected, howling wind down the valley but when the sun peeps over the hills the days are beautiful. Rooms are basic but comfortable, only issue was lack of hot water especially when it is winter. Definitely a place I would love to go back to.

I stayed 2 weeks and loved it: first just yoga and the second yoga and Ayurveda treatments. Perfectly located on the Ganga, 5’ foot from the city but really quiet. A nice and cozy spot. A really nice staff, always there to help and make yourself comfortable. You even have your tea brought to your room on the morning. They are able to change the planning or offer activities depending on what you want. The cook is simple and delicious, always diverse and tasty. Yoga classes are a bit difficult for beginners but as they say “try your best, don’t force with your body” :). You do lots of stuff but have also time to be with yourself and relax. On the weekend, the staff propose an outside activity to see a bit more of the local area (for me it was cascade, sunset from the mountain and Ganga Aarti in Rishikesh old town: loved it! And next weekend : méditation in a cave, Beatles ashram and Ganga Aarti on the bridge). I definitely recommend this Ashram. Thanks again!

This was my second visit to Mahatma Yoga, I first attended a yoga week in 2015. This time I went for the two weeks spiritual retreat in September 2019. It was an incredible experience for many reasons. The ashram is in a beautiful setting and the yoga programme is well thought out to prepare you for the trekking week. I particularly loved doing gi gong on the local beach and a trip one morning to a beautiful beach on the Ganges where we did some yoga, had a swim (dip!) in the Ganges and had breakfast in this stunning spot. The yoga at the ashram was quite tough and I think it would help if you have done some yoga before. The accommodation at the ashram is functional, you do get your own room and bathroom but it's basic, and we experienced water shortages and electricity/wifi problems during the week. If that's going to bother you then perhaps you might be better looking elsewhere. However, the food was good, the teaching was great and the ashram provides a safe, calm haven away from the busy streets of Rishikesh. The second week - the trekking week was a real adventure, off the beaten track as far as most western tourists are concerned and this made it very special. Again the accommodation is basic, you will be sharing with others (when we got to base camp we had 8 in a room - this didn't bother me I was just glad to have a bed and not be camping!) the food was good though and we had some great meals in some of the basic places we stayed. Yoga in the orchard, the seven lakes walk and getting to the source (or nearly) were all highlights as was the night in the village - a very special experience. The trekking is fairly tough (partly because it's at altitude) and it would help if you have had some trekking experience before or a good level of fitness. There are some long travel days and the roads were interesting at times but overall although we left behind our creature comforts (showers, wifi and phone signal) we gained so much more. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves yoga and the mountains and has a sense of adventure (and a sense of humour for when the power or water goes off!)

I visited ashram on the Spring reatreat programm Yoga begginer + Trekking in Himalayas. And so pleased with my decision for 100%! Firstly, I was afraid will I endure the yoga classes but somehow all lessons were on very good balance. After week I saw already more flexibility in my body. Also all the rest daily routines very on good balance with plenty time for your own activities. Trekking week was the programm peak! Feelings and expierence were incredible, I am still smiling :) There are possibility to see so many parts of India - nature, people, culture, food, villages etc. A big thank you for Yogi Ji! He took care of all and we could feel very safe all the time. Yogi Ji allowed to take and live the best moments from local village people lifestyle. Higly recommeneded Mahatma yoga ashram and hope to visit ashram in next years!

This is my long overdue review of Mahatma Yoga (sorry guys, I should have written this months ago). I went to Mahatma Yoga in September 2018, with the intention of staying there for 3 months to try and improve my health, mostly to do with being overweight, but also chronic pain associated with old injuries and poor flexibility. When I left in December 2018, I would made dramatic improvements, feeling almost free of pain and having lost a lot of weight. All of the staff, and the other students were just so supportive and caring. You really feel like people want you to succeed. There several reasons why Mahatma Yoga is a wonderful place. Firstly; Location: The ashram is located on the up river side of Laxman Jhula (the famous bridge). It is sufficiently far enough away that it feels 'far from the madding crowd', but close enough so if you want to go to a cafe, buy some clothes, souvenirs etc, it is simple a ten minute walk away. The ashram is about 40 metres from the Ganga River and there is a sand 'beach' right out the front. A great place to swim, meditate of do some asanas. The view from the balcony is both incredible peaceful but at the same time uplifting and inspiring. Not once in 3 months did I not look from the balcony and feel joy. Food: The food is incredible, so tasty, fresh and unique. Teju is a master at preparing seemingly simple meals but there are so tasty and nutritious. I found making the transition to vegetarian easy. They will also respond positively to your particularly requests if at all possible. The (asana) yoga: I was a newby to yoga so I cant compare to other styles or experiences. what I can say is this yoga will make you healthy, fit and flexible and at the same time get you in touch with your inner-self . To be honest I found it really hard at first. I am massive guy and I could barely reach past knees when trying to touch my toes. By the end of the three months I could easily touch my toes. Both Yogi Ji and Harsh offered me some private classes, which was very kind and benefited me enormously. The technical purity of the classes was really excellent and I could really sense a connection to thousands of years of refined yoga wisdom. Over all I cannot strongly enough recommend having a stay, long or short, at Mahatma Yoga. I will say it is important to go with an open mind. Things inIndia can be a little different to western countries. As soon as I let go of trying to want and control things so they were more like what I was used to in Australia, I started to really enjoy and feel nurtured. It is important to ask questions and be proactive about the things you want to learn about and know, but this is just the way things are. I cannot wait to get back to Mahatma Yoga, I feel like I made a lot of friends, healed my body, heart and soul. I highly recommend the experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Mahatma Yoga. I felt at peace from the moment I arrived at the ashram. Being in such a wonderful location – close to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city of Rishikesh – turned my stay into a calming and profound experience. I was very impressed and inspired by all the staff who worked hard to maintain the ashram each day and always had a smile on their face. The retreat program was ideal for me, allowing plenty of time to unwind and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The cherry on top of the cake was the relaxing Ayurvedic massage I was receiving each day! Last but certainly not least, I was captivated by the calm and easy-going nature of Yogi Ji, his words of advice and many useful teachings which I took back home with me. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking to empty their mind, reconnect with nature and get away from the busyness of city life. Though Wi-Fi connection was excellent I didn’t feel I needed it. I am already contemplating of going back! A BIG THANK YOU to everyone at Mahatma yoga ashram!

If you are like me searching for an Ashram in Rishikesh- it can get overwhelming - there are many ashrams and not knowing anyone I had to go with my gut... and I made a great choice! Mahatma Yoga Ashram is a mirific place, I couldn’t be more happier with the choice I made. The place is simple but yet very welcoming, all staff including Yogi Ji are wonderful. I would return to this Ashram any day and definitely highly recommended to anyone who’s looking for a peaceful place, small heaven on earth - from the delicious vegetarian food to yoga classes and meditation. Can’t wait to go back- it feels like having another family there! 🧘‍♀️🙏 And did I forget to mention, I was solo female traveler who of course was some how skeptical to travel to India by myself... all fears flushed away the minute I got there! 😇

I attended the beginners yoga course at the Mahatma Yoga Ashram for 2 weeks mid January. Although I have worked as a professional dancer for years I was a complete novice when it came to yoga and as the ashram wasn't very busy at that time I was able to take full advantage of many private yoga lessons with 2 amazing teachers, Vicky and Harsh. All the staff are very friendly and accommodating and will do their best to help in any way they can, the food was great and the twins always had a smile on their face no matter the time or the weather. From morning chanting and meditation, purification, 2 yoga classes a day and evening philosophy or mediation, sometimes sound guided, I had an amazing spiritual adventure. A 5 hour trekking tour which meant I got to see the sunrise over the Himalayas and rafting on the Ganges were included in the price as well as 2 massages and Yogi Ji even took us up to watch the sunset over the Himalayas and the River Ganges on my last night, a perfect end to an amazing experience. As well as the beginner course/retreat they also offer teacher training, reiki level 1, 2 and masters and Ayurvedic courses and I would recomend Mahatma Yoga Ashram to anyone who wants an authentic experience in a breathtaking location on the banks of the River Ganges, the views are absolutely stunning and simply watching and listening to the river flowing creates a calming sense of peace and tranquility. The only slight negative for me was the occasional lack of hot water - it was very cold mid Jan but I guess power cuts and water issues are to be expected in India and it didn't affect my experience, if anything it helped make it more authentic.

As an absolute beginner to yoga and meditation, I felt that I learned some of the basics at Mahatma Yoga and can carry those with me. The program was very full and excellent and I felt fully engaged. The regimen was good for developing habits and attitudes and I received positive comments from family about a subtle change. I guess so While you will be busy, too, there was also time to wander the interesting streets of Rishikesh and Several excursions into the hills were also arranged for us. The room was fine, the vegetarian meals were very satisfying, and the teaching - yoga, meditation, chanting, etc. -was very good. Of corse, don’t expect luxury since this is an ashram and if you go in December likeI I did be sure to bring ample warm clothes; the wind comes howling down the Ganges right below the ashram through the hills in the morning and the sun rises later and warms things lovely. The teachers and staff are helpful and friendly. The natural terrain is gorgeous I hope to return in a year.
