I came to the Himalayan Yog Ashram just after quitting my job in Switzerland, not knowing exactly what worklife i would like to have in the future. I was looking for a small and quite place, as i wanted to get in touch more with my true self and to think about how i wanted to create my future worklife. Back home I hesitated between the ashram stay and the yoga teacher training program. I choose de ashram stay, because my visa was valid only 30 days and i didn't want to rush through a program without having some extra time for myself. Once in the Ashram, Yogi Ram and his team allowed me to join alle the classes of the current teacher training programm and i could skip some classes whenever i wanted. This flexibility was exactly what i needed. I spent one month in this beautiful place. The classes and teachings are profound, challenging (mentally as well as physically) and pursue a holistic approach. However the focus is not on asana classes but much more on gaining inner peace (through meditation / yoga nidra / pranayama) and transfering knowledge about ayurveda and anatomie. The warmth and passion all of the staff puts in their work is breathtaking. This journey surpassed anything i could have ever dreamed of. Yogi Ram has a powerful presence and a natural authority. He is a very warm person and finds always the right words whatever topic you discuss in philosophy. By the why i absolutely loved his yoga nidra class! Teju has a huge knowledge in ayurveda & human anatomy. In his asana classes i was challenged with peacock, scorpion & lotus pose. Even if the classes were challenging, we laughed a lot and had a lot of fun. And i'll never forget he took me to an indian wedding next door to the Ashram ;-). Shyam (the manager) helped me with all my IT problems and was answering all my questions with "don't worry, no problem, i can do it". He made my stay really comfortable and taught me some words in Hindi as well (-:. Kapil is a very calm person and i liked the smooth beginning of the daily scedule with his pranayama class. Himansu and Suresh were putting so much love in all their dishes. All the meals are fresh, healthy and always served with a smile on their face. Il left the Ashram grounded, with much more inner clarity and with life lasting memories.

Property's Favourite Review
I came here not long after pandemic travel restrictions started to lift. I had put aside yoga practice for a while during that time. My gym had closed in person practice wasn’t available. After using the web to search on ashrams in or around Rishikesh, I settled on this one because I did not want dormitory/youth hostel style or anything that felt too large and commercial/institutional. Since spending time in Rishikesh and Tapovan, where a cottage industry in yoga training seems to have built up, I now know I chose the right place. Himalayan Yog Ashram is as authentic, serious, and rich in educational programing as anything I wished for. It exceeded my expectations. Starting the morning with Kapel’s Pranayama class was a blissful experience. I have never experienced a class quite like this one that seemed to open up my ability to breathe and appreciate the day. Teju’s asana classes had just the right amount of pressure to deepen one’s level, and his methodology and therapy classes explored each asana individually as the yogi masters intended. He also taught a lot about aruveyda diagnosis and principles while I was there. And then there is Yogi Ram, whose dreamy and wizened voice will lead you to understand and explore yoga philosophy and yourself with Yoga Nidra. Although he projects complete authority, he is also very warm and has a subtle sense of humor that will make you smile. Other than the awesome yoga instruction, the food was also tasty and wholesome. They offer amazing massage therapy and other practical services like laundry and airport transfers. They use filtered water and the classes were 50/50 local and westerner when I was there. This is to say, Himalayan Yog Ashram isn’t an ashram simply built for tourists. It is available to and benefits westerners and Indian nationals alike. I felt very safe here as a solo woman traveler. I really loved the program. They are a very kind and sincere team who run Himalayan Yog Ashram. I don’t know how much longer truly authentic experiences such as this will continue to exist will all the little pop-up yoga places in the area, but one will be lucky, or perhaps drawn, to experience it as well.

I came to Himalayan Yog ashram for my teacher training of 200 hrs of yoga and it was a wonderful experience. The teachers were very supportive and helpful and learnt a lot. The food here is also very simple yet amazing. And the accommodation yes simple and perfect for a yogic experience. The only thing I wish was that it was more closer to the nature but nevertheless it is a must experience and very much within the budget. Due to the growing technology and much competition it is becoming difficult to get the real knowledge so choose carefully

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback. We really appreciate it. Regarding your suggestion about being close to nature, we just wanted to add that when we were here 10 years ago it was surrounded by lush green grasses. However, as you very rightly pointed out that due to growing demands and competition, many yoga schools have leased land and building to run their classes too. Our client’s feedback and continuous improvement made us set up this unique place and very soon we are opening up another owned building in the laps of mother nature. Best Regards, Himalayan Yog Ashram Best Regards, Himalayan Yog Ashram

I am truly grateful to have completed the teacher training course this year. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the yoga masters who have generously shared with us their knowledge and experience during this wonderful journey. Thank you for unveiling the power and principles of yoga, and for showing me a new dimension with endless opportunities and possibilities. Although the course has officially come to an end, I am going to keep practising patiently, calmly and happily each day to seek consistent improvement. Namaste.

I was looking for a yog asram in Rishikesh since few days and fortunately i got to know about Himalayan yog asram. I was thr for one week ayurvedic anti stress program and i am so happy and satisfied with the therapy ,yog classes nd meditation. Teju sir is very kind nd humble teacher who teaches yoga very patiently ,i was a beginner but still he taught me everything very nicely . All the ayurvedic massage treatments were also very good and relaxing. Philosophy classes conducted by Yogi Ram ji was so much fun. You can talk anything and everything with him and last but not least Yog nindra classes again conducted by Yogi Ram sir worked magically for me ,i am finally able to sleep peacefully after years by doing this simple practice. Highly recommended place for people who seriously want to learn yog and meditation and not just stretching and asanas. Environment of Ashram is very peaceful nd quiet .All meals are super tasty and healthy. P.S. one of the most important thing is thr is no smoking allowed in the ashram which is sadly rare in Rishikesh these days. So overall i had amazing experience and i am looking forward to go thr again soon.

The experience staying in Himalayan yog Ashram was surreal. It is a very serene place, the yoga instructors are very knowledgeable. Everything is planned, the food during my stay was home cooked satvic and delicious. Ashram offers you a comprehensive, structured course on yoga and the philosophy related to it. You can get the best out of the Ashram, by regularly practicing what is taught, through daily introspection and clearing your doubts with he help of instructors. The rooms are hygienic, fitted with modern amenities and comfortable. The Ashram follows a strict code of conduct and use of any kind of intoxicant is prohibited. The Ashram also has a library which you can access in your free time. If you go the Ashram with an open mind and without any preconceived notions. You will come back with an new and better outlook towards life.

At the Himalayan Yog Ashram in Rishikesh started my yoga and meditation journey with practical and simple tools. First time I stayed for 3 weeks in November 2018 and then in February 2019 (1 week), July 2019 (3 weeks) and February 2020 (1 month). This a small ashram so you have almost individual lessons and access to authentic Himalayan Yoga experience. I had the immense chance to discover Yoga Nidra and had daily Satsang with Yogi Ram. Nowaday Yoga is becoming a big business. If you are looking for authenticity, this is the place. Since March 2020 India is closed for travellers. Fortunately, we have the chance to meet Yogi Ram on Zoom for Satsang every Saturday morning in english and every Sunday morning with italian translation. If you read this review, its a sign. Yogi Ram is humble and has no marketing budget to promote his place. Gem are not found in the middle of the street, you have to dig to find them !

I was trying to look for a good yoga training class with comfortable stay but it was more than that. It was an eye opener as it gives you an opportunity to know yourself means who am I what is my. It was a good spiritual journey inside the body along with the yoga training classes by well knowledgeable guides.

I completed my YTT in September and am now just writing this review in April. My experience at the ashram was beautiful. We had a very small group, with only 3 people in my program, making it very cozy, intimate and close. There is so much I want to say now after I have been home and been able to integrate everything I learned. I choose this Ashram based on the trip advisor reviews since I was really looking for a self exploration and to finding the real meaning of yoga, outside an exercise. This was a completely different yoga than what I was used to in the west. I was used to hot vinyasa: sweating, being in my body and working hardd. At the beginning when we started the asanas, I honestly was a bit disappointed since it was not what I knew. Doing an asana and then resting to feel the energy in your body? That was not on my radar for yoga... but this was the experience I wanted, so what could I learn from that.? Towards the end I loved it. I loved this traditional style of yoga as I felt so much closer to myself, internally. Working hard and then resting to feel that exact energy opened my eyes. Teju is such a warm, humble, intelligent soul and I really enjoyed learning from him. Praynayama and chanting with Kapil were nothing short of amazing. Chanting ended up being one of my favorite classes since Kapil has a voice of an ANGEL and I really felt how powerful mantra and sound were. We had a lot of fun singing :) Being in Kapil's presence just warmed my heart. Yogi Ram, wow he is such an enlightened, humble, caring, wise, hard working, balanced soul. He is so wise and his philosophy classes were so interesting. He is sooo practical and grounded on this Earth; yet, so connected to the Divine and sensitive to all around him. He went through the sutras with us and provided ample practical ways we could integrate them in our life. I could listen to him talk for days!! Yoga Nidra was a huge avenue for self discovery as you literally take a trip into your body. The healing and transformation this started was so profound. Thank you Yogi Ram for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and really putting your heart into everything you do. Narender is a great chef; however, I felt we were eating the same thing every week. But his attitude and personality are sooo wonderful, such a light hearted beautiful spirit. Rooms are great, tea 24/7, and good vibes. This was not an easy experience thought; this was mental, physically and emotional taxing but the end result was so sweet. I had been traveling 5 1/2 months before doing my YTT, so after it ended I felt like I needed to go home in order to implement everything I learned and really train my mind. This experience really showed my how you are in control, nothing is wrong with you; however, you are programed from childhood and you have to retrain your mind to work with you! Also, I did this just for myself, never expecting to teach since my yoga practice was not very stable at the time; but, once I returned home the universe blessed me with a teaching opportunity that required me be discipline in my practice and find my voice. I am able to integrate western and eastern yoga which I really enjoy. Overall, if you are looking to find the real meaning of yoga I would highly recommend this beautiful ashram. Also they were adding more rooms, and a new yoga shala, that is beautiful so you can look forward to that! I am eternally grateful for all the beautiful souls at this ashram and the knowledge they shared with me. It really did change my life!
