The Inn is about as close to Grayson Highlands State Park as you can get, unless you are camping in the park. There are several rooms above the General Store. Our room was clean and comfortable. At night it was quiet, and there's a stream out back. It was handy to have the General Store there to pick up items, and there's food and ICE CREAM at certain hours. Dennis was very helpful with maps and suggestions and he was conscientious about keeping his customers safe from COVID19. I would give this five stars, but it is not a fancy place, and I don't want people to have the wrong impression. You may have to leave a message when you call.

A wonderful stay with quality bedding, beautiful surroundings at very reasonable rates. Dennis , owner, was a gracious host and makes a mean breakfast omelet. Dennis also has a couple greenhouses and garden where he grows the veggies to use for his daily menu. All grown organically.
After two days of hiking I was grateful for the tub available. I was even able to buy Epsom salts in the store to soak my tired old bones and muscles.
Only a few miles from Grayson Highlands State Park.

Great new owners. They have renovated the rooms and are so welcoming. After a long day of hiking and late arrival, Paula and Jeff opened the store so we could get food and drink. Comfortable bed and lots of space in the room. A great find and good value.

We had a wonderful experience over a weekend at the Inn in June, 2023. The new owner Paula and her son Lucas were welcoming, gracious, and attentive. We enjoyed having conversations with them about how they came to purchase the property.

The remodeled room was spacious and immaculate. We enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the stream. We're avid bird watchers, and there were beautiful birds there. We devoured Paula's homemade blueberry crumble with ice cream, and her potato soup was the best we've ever had.

We loved the convenience to Grayson Highlands State Park (10 minutes to entrance). If you're looking for an excellent place to stay while visiting that park, look no further. Highly recommended!

I loved staying at this clean and modest inn. Clean rooms and an excellent selection of food, both prepared and fresh, at the store. The owners are lovely - professional and kind. I will stay again when I am next in the area.

We stayed at the Grayson Highlands General Store & Inn on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Dennis went on and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. Even with us arriving after the restaurant was closed, he prepared us an amazing meal. We watched as he picked fresh greens from the organic garden for the salad, he made sure that our orders were exactly the way we wanted them. The room we stayed in was extremely clean and very comfortable. Updated with modern features including full kitchen and new washer and dryer. Both Dennis and his brother Tim will do everything they can to make you feel right at home. The grounds are extremely well maintained and you will feel safe and relaxed. If you are wanting a really nice place to stay with great food and extraordinary service, this is the place for you.

The rooms at this inn are basic but clean as a pin. They are above the general store there. There is a shared outdoor terrace that looks out over the Wilson River. They have a shared BBQ grill and access to the river there. It's not the Ritz, but a good clean place to lay your head after a hike up to Mt. Rogers. Also the restaurant there has excellent food. The chef is an Appalachian Trail through hiker who is working there for a while to save money to keep hiking. His trail name is Butterscotch and he is a trained chef who worked in upscale restaurants in places like NYC for 20 years before he took to the trail. You wouldn't expect the kind of food he produces from a little general store. His food is all from scratch. I had an omelet for breakfast that was perfect and fish taco's for lunch which were some of the best I have ever had. That says a lot because I have had fish taco's from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas and these are excellent, comparable to any I had, with fresh avocado slices, a salsa of black beans and corn, with a drizzle of a special spicy sauce that was delicious. I hope you visit before Butterscotch hits the trail.

My husband and I stayed one night here in October. We had a very comfortable and spacious room. There was complimentary coffee for guests in the general store in the morning. The owners have an extensive, very cool garden. They use the produce in the food for the little cafe in the store. The menu was limited, but the food was quite tasty. There is a terrace overlooking the creek behind the inn. Very relaxing.

It was a nice start to our week in the mountains.

I am not reviewing the Inn or the restaurant here. But I am reviewing the shuttle service that Dennis offered me. First, my roommate from college and I hike a section of the AT every spring and fall. We are 50+ years old and we knew we were going to need a shuttle at the end of our 15 mile hike. We parked at Grayson Highlands Backpackers Lot and went southbound 15 miles to Va State Road 601 (a gravel road with parking lot) I called Dennis weeks in advance and told him about our plans and he said, "Don't worry, we'll take care of you. It will probably cost you $30+ for the ride, but we can do it. No problem." The day before our hike, i stopped in to his store, shook his hand and introduced myself, and showed him on the map where we were going, etc. He says, "okay, just call me tomorrow before you get to the parking area, and I'll meet ya there."
We did. I called him that morning when we stepped on the trail. All was good. I called him right before our descent to the parking area (3 miles out) at 3:45pm. His response was not what I expected or wanted to hear after hiking 12 miles on the AT and 3 more to go.
He said, " It's going to take you 2-3 hours to hike that those 3 miles, and that will be in the middle of dinner for me,and I'm shorthanded. i can pick u up around 7pm."
I said, "No Dennis, that won't work for us. At the rate we are going today, i think we will arrive at the bottom around 5:30-6 at the latest. We will just wing it i guess, and pray we get a ride with someone else."
He said, "No no. Just call me when you get down there. I just don't want to be waiting for 30 minutes when I have a restaurant to run."
I said, "Dennis, we won't have service when we get down there. We will have to find us a ride somehow."
He said, "Well try to call me or find someone who has service and call me and I'll come get you."
We reached the parking lot at 5:15. We had no service at the bottom. ZERO We walked on the lonesome gravel road for about 20 minutes, smelling something that had died, watching the buzzards flying around, and praying to see some form of life that could help us get back to our car, 25 miles away. We were done. Finished. Too tired to think clearly.
A truck is heard in the distance, and my friend and I look hopefully at each other, but I quickly said to her, "what if these people are some freaky hillbillies? We can't ride with just anyone!"
Well beggars can't be choosers. They were the epitome of freaky hillbillies. The man in the backseat had no teeth and called us his honeys. Really. They told us to hop in the
back of their pickup but stay away from the tailgate cause it was broke. The woman up front is the one who took pity on us and they drove us all the way to our vehicle. We paid her $50 and she hugged us and almost cried.
They were out just riding around the block when they came to us. I am convinced God sent them out just to help us, and thankfully we could help them.
I was so nauseas from riding in the back of a pickup for 25 miles on mountain roads, I could hardly adequately explain to her the extent of my gratitude. Dennis ditched us. Two ladies whose husbands would have been so angry with him had they been in the vicinity.
He did call and left me a voicemail about picking us up. Of course I didn't receive that call or voicemail till late in the evening when I picked up some service off our neighbor's wifi.
It was really disappointing.

My husband and I do a section of the Appalachian Trail every summer and this year we chose the beautiful A.T. hike in Grayson Highlands State Park.

Of course, we wanted to find accommodations close to the park and decided to stay at Grayson Highlands General Store and Inn. What a great choice! Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. There is a deck in the back and we spent some relaxing time listening to the bubbling stream and enjoying the beautiful night sky (no mosquitoes!).

Dennis and his brother Tim were wonderful hosts. They are super friendly and were ready to do whatever was needed to make our stay the best.

Back to the park - the hiking is incredible and the views are just beautiful. On the trail, we saw ponies, horses, cows, bulls and butterflies and it was like nothing I had ever experienced before on the trail.

So combining the accommodations and the hiking, I highly recommend this exceptional vacation experience.
