Hotel was exceptionally clean - everywhere. I have stayed at many Hampton's and this one was nice and quaint, but the mattress on my bed was exceptionally hard and after driving for nearly eight hours, I had a difficult time getting comfortable. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The location is near several places to eat and just off I-81;...

This was the only time we've ever been in a Hampton Inn that was placed on an historic site. The house and buildings belonged to a ante-bellum Virginia Governor. The rooms were clean and well kept, and the breakfast was served in the main building which also had cases displaying historical artifacts from the period. We had a nice stay.

Stayed in Lexington on the way home. Beautiful converted mansion. Centrally located near the downtown area, close to restaurants. Excellent staff. Comfortable room. Complementary breakfast was good. Although on a main road, motel was very quiet.

Even though Lexington has many "hotels" (many that should be shut down) this property stands out as the best in the area. It has classic charm but the rooms have all the amenities that you will need. It is located in the heart of the city and it is easy to reach VMI and that other place of higher learning...

The lexington Hampton is in a great location and the staff is great. The rooms are average for the price. We requested for a room away from the elevators and got a room next to the stairs and the utility room. The Hampton rented a room or rooms to a work crew who went to work every morning at 6...

Second time staying here. It's nice, like the location, being close to downtown Lexinton. Have family in Lexington and this location is convenient. Had to wait for the price to come down a bit. Holiday Inn Express has nicer rooms, however, has worse breakfast offerings.

Always comfy and welcoming, and the complimentary breakfast is a big plus. Close to the center of Lexington, within walking distance, and close to the highway into town. The only thing missing here would be a hotel bar.

We decided to stop in this hotel, not just once but twice. We were driving down south and our little one was getting tired. The hotel is clean and decent. The continental breakfast isn't bad either. This place is a lot better than I expected. I will use this hotel from now on when we travel. The bathrooms and beds...

Great place to stay - beautiful grounds and original mansion - entrance is beautiful and we rested very well - we were in town for two days and enjoyed our stay very much. The chocolate chip cookies when we walked in the door were a wonderful surprise! Lexington is a beautiful place.

Great room, great location. I have stayed here multiple times and continue to stay at this great historic hotel. The staff is helpful, the internet was reliable. Local places will deliver food directly to the room-which was a nice touch.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In June of 1997 the tradition of Col Alto was reborn as it opened its doors once again to welcome visitors to the City of Lexington. Step onto the beautiful grounds of the Hampton Inn Lexington-Historic District hotel and be mesmerized. You'll find our breathtaking historic manor house-the Col Alto Mansion-nestled on seven acres. Stay in one of the 76 rooms featuring contemporary touches or one of the 10 restored manor rooms offering a glimpse into the past. Take a short walk and you'll discover Washington and Lee University. While there, be sure to see the historic landmark Lee Chapel and Museum. Pay respects at the cemetery named for 'Stonewall' Jackson, a Confederate general during the Civil War. Visit Virginia Military Institute, one of six senior military colleges in the United States. Hungry or in need of some retail therapy? Take a stroll down to Main Street to find lots of wonderful, locally-owned restaurants and unique shops. Or if you prefer, take a scenic drive down the road and you'll discover the beauty of nature at Natural Bridge, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Enjoy your stay in our Historic Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, VMI or the Washington and Lee Rooms featuring period décor within the Manor House with wine and hors d'oeuvres served upon arrival, breakfast served in-room, evening turndown service, and terrycloth robes or relax in our contemporary guest rooms and accessible rooms featuring a refrigerator and microwave. All rooms feature a 37-inch LCD HDTV with cable channels, lap desk and free Wi-Fi, and many rooms offer a wet or dry bar. Enjoy complementary hot breakfast in the manor house overlooking the grounds or perhaps a dip in the outdoor pool or whirlpool spa on a beautiful day. Get lost in time when you stay at the Historic Hampton Inn Col Alto. Located 8 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
