My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at this hotel, and the staff made us feel so special. From the quality of the accommodations to the courtesy and kindness we felt from the staff, we were so impressed with our stay. The history and appearance of the hotel and grounds makes for a wonderful setting to explore the area...

This was a pleasant surprise. The charm at this Inn is very good. First we received a beautiful welcome letter from Beth Keen Assistant General Manager. We did not expect this. However the Inn is the best that I have ever stayed at. The rooms are better than normal. Very clean. Good Breakfast especially the fruit. Nice and fresh. The...

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times and make it a mandatory stop each year on our trip(s) up and down the East Coast. It is a beautiful, historic property with a lot of character and ambience. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They are quick to meet your special requests and are very knowledgeable about the...

Charming hotel built around an old manor. Location is a short walk to the center of town. Clean, reasonably sized rooms. Quiet. Staff was nice, but lacked enthusiasm. Breakfast room was nice, but the food itself was nothing special.

This is a charming old mansion that has been restored to a not-so-typical Hampton, with all the Hampton amenities plus more. We have stayed here twice while traveling to or from SC to NYS. Breakfast was excellent. There are not a lot of restaurants close-by - pizza and sub shops, fast-food places mostly.

It's not a typical Hampton Inn. It has the usual guest rooms in a separate building but Hampton renovated a 1827 mansion which has 10 guest rooms available. I have difficulty w/ stairs so we chose the room on the main level - #1 - what a huge room, king four poster bed, area w/ a small table for dining,...

We had a terrific experience at this hotel. It was our first time in Lexington and the Hampton Inn was wonderful and located close to town within walking distance of lots of stuff. Everyone there was warm and friendly... just a great experience!

A great Inn with historical significance and an outstanding staff. The cocoa and cookies are a welcoming treat. The Inn is near the sites of Lexington and one can walk to those sites with little trouble and effort.

Arrived here by accident and had no idea of the historical significance. Highly recommended . Such a shame there are not more hotels which fall in the normal range such as this. The bonus is the area around the town which includes VMI and Washington and Lee universitys.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In June of 1997 the tradition of Col Alto was reborn as it opened its doors once again to welcome visitors to the City of Lexington. Step onto the beautiful grounds of the Hampton Inn Lexington-Historic District hotel and be mesmerized. You'll find our breathtaking historic manor house-the Col Alto Mansion-nestled on seven acres. Stay in one of the 76 rooms featuring contemporary touches or one of the 10 restored manor rooms offering a glimpse into the past. Take a short walk and you'll discover Washington and Lee University. While there, be sure to see the historic landmark Lee Chapel and Museum. Pay respects at the cemetery named for 'Stonewall' Jackson, a Confederate general during the Civil War. Visit Virginia Military Institute, one of six senior military colleges in the United States. Hungry or in need of some retail therapy? Take a stroll down to Main Street to find lots of wonderful, locally-owned restaurants and unique shops. Or if you prefer, take a scenic drive down the road and you'll discover the beauty of nature at Natural Bridge, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Enjoy your stay in our Historic Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, VMI or the Washington and Lee Rooms featuring period décor within the Manor House with wine and hors d'oeuvres served upon arrival, breakfast served in-room, evening turndown service, and terrycloth robes or relax in our contemporary guest rooms and accessible rooms featuring a refrigerator and microwave. All rooms feature a 37-inch LCD HDTV with cable channels, lap desk and free Wi-Fi, and many rooms offer a wet or dry bar. Enjoy complementary hot breakfast in the manor house overlooking the grounds or perhaps a dip in the outdoor pool or whirlpool spa on a beautiful day. Get lost in time when you stay at the Historic Hampton Inn Col Alto. Located 8 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Within walking distance to Historic Downtown Lexington, Washington & Lee University, Virginia Military Institute and minutes from Natural Bridge, Goshen Pass and McCormick Farm. ... more   less
