We stayed at North Bend for a couple nights just before Thanksgiving. We arrived after dark after successfully navigating the Virginia countryside and the long gravel driveway. We were greeted by the owner, Ridgely Copeland, who immediately treated us more like family members than lodgers. The plantation house is full of antiques and history in general and she delighted in...

Having no particular plan in place we booked an evening at our new friend Ridely Copeland's home. Didn't realize at the time that we would enjoy ourselves so much we ended up staying another night and wishing we could have stayed longer. Rooms are large and filled with history. Edmund Ruffin's bed, a desk used by General Sheridan. The area...

My wife and I planned on staying one night and had such a warm experience that we decided to stay another night. Mrs. Copland is the most professional and gracious host and does a great job maintaining the property and and atmosphere of comfort. It truly feels as though you are visiting family. The property is nestled in a rural...

Love American history and antiques? Need a quiet getaway? North Bend fills the bill on all counts. Full of Southern hospitality, the owner is chatty, yet attentive to the needs of her guests. (She has, after all, lived in this house for over 50 years and knows every corner of it!) Set in rural Charles City, about 30 minutes from...

My husband & I have been staying at B&Bs for 30 years and Ridgely Copland was by far the most charming and gracious inn keeper we have met. Not only is the house spectacular, her stories of the surrounding plantations and families were fascinating. She was also able to suggest several wonderful local restaurants. Our room, like the rest of...

My husband and I spent two nights at this delightful B&B. We were with friends touring historic homes and sites in the area. Ridgely Copland, the inn owner, was a wealth of information about the county from the plantations to the eating establishments. Her breakfasts were delicious and the accommodations were extremely comfortable. She treated us like members of her...

Always love staying in B&Bs, and what could be better than being welcomed into a home with a dog. Loved Rudy. And those crispy biscuits that Ridglea makes are the greatest. Rudy loves them too, and I just could help but sneak a few crumbs under the table for him. Guess you can tell I'm a confirmed dog/animal lover, so...

This was mine and my husband's second experience with a B & B. The rest of our family traveling with us, my parents and our 16 year daughter's, first. The grounds are beautiful, the home itself quite fascinating to explore, and the bed rooms where very comfortable. Ridgely Copeland definitly has the gift of hospitality, along with her entire family....

Wow! My mom and I just spent two wonderful days at North Bend. We shared the Magnolia Room, a lovely suite with two beds and a private bathroom. The house was just lovely. Mrs. Copland is a very gracious hostess, and she cooked wonderful breakfasts for us. I loved the biscuits and the waffles! You won't need lunch because it...

“The rooms are all different as are the beds (one was very high for example) so discuss what best suits you with the owner.”

“Ridgely will advise you. My wife and I are not big people, so we took a room with a queen-size bed. There is a room with a king-size bed if that better fits your needs. The view out all of the rooms is similar...with a bucolic farm setting visible out all windows.”
