I am only writing this negative review for no other reason than to alert prospective guests that there are perhaps better options. As I drove up to the "resort", the first thing I noticed was the building itself was shabby looking and need or some work. Oh well. When I got my room I was told where I could park for the night. It was across a lot that had a surface that resembled the moon. It was pouring rain that night and I had to try to avoid a lot of puddles and .Wet ankles. Got to the room .... This room rate was about $250 a night and we were staying 2 nights. I have some photos of the bathroom ceiling being slumped and a chunk of material missing out of a wall. Any way the other annoyances were wifi was unusable even though we asked for it to be checked, it never worked. Gritty substance in the bed? But the crowning glory of insults awaited. That morning we got up and went out for breakfast and then saw some sights and retuned to the room and found the bed unmade and the room not serviced. Called the desk and was told that had I wanted maid service, I should have asked for it at least 24 hours in advance, and I should have noticed it in the comfirmation email- you know that really small print no one ever reads? That really did it. Some Resort! I guess I could have easily summed it up by saying "What a dump"…
Visited for Stowe skiing opening, and selected this resort specifically for outdoor pool and steam room. Total disappointment because outdoor pool closed, indoor pool cold and steam room is not working. So this is just a regular hotel without any usable amenities. Room is good though, if a bit outdated.
The hotel is a little dated , the room was cozy, it’s in a great location, very close to great food places and trails. I’m sure in the 90s it was amazing but you go to Vt for a little more relaxed fell. Last hotel I stayed in was the Peninsula in NY.
We had an adequate room which was clean but dated. The jacuzzi was nice but the sink was cracked. You could see plants growing out of the gutters and a roof that was at the end of its life. Staff was pleasant and helpful but clearly the owners are not interested in keeping the property up.
Had booked a king room with Jacuzzi but once we checked in they said, I had booked only a luxury king room and since booking was through a 3rd party they couldn't do anything. I spent$400 on the old room with not much luxury to speak of. It was definitely a disappointing experience.
1 Disappointing from the start. We arrived early to an empty lobby, no one at the front desk. After searching up and down the halls we found a clerk who told us our rooms were not ready. No problem, we enjoyed lunch and exploring Stowe. We returned a little before 3:00, approached the desk and were rudely told… check-in is NOT until 4:00 pm. We were traveling with friends and we both had a copy of our registration saying check-in was 3:00. Well, that seemed to annoy the lady checking us in. She gave us our room key and told our friends that they would not get the room they booked because of people overstaying their reservation. She said they would be “ upgraded “ to a better room in another wing of the hotel. We explained we were traveling together and would like to remain close. She said that wasn’t possible. Why, she didn’t move the people who overstayed their reservation was beyond us, but off we went to our rooms at different ends of the resort. Our room was average at the best, the whole place needs a major renovation as the rugs and hallways smell moldy. The biggest surprise was when we went to meet our friends in their “upgraded” room. The wing they were in had old smelly carpeting that was ripped and the wallpaper was actually stapled to the walls in spots. The “upgraded” room was larger than ours but the furniture was old and stained. It made our room look good. We prepaid in advance for a “sit down” breakfast. Every day we tried to eat we were told there was no sit down breakfast available because they had too many buses filled with people who also had to eat. Huh??? Well….. maybe you shouldn’t offer a prepaid breakfast if you don’t have the ability to meet the needs of your clients. At check out we informed the front desk that we did not get out breakfast and we were told the charge would be removed from our bill. As of now, that still hasn’t happened. During this road trip we stayed in six different lodgings from Newport, RI, Bar Harbor, … The Stoweflake Lodge was the only disappointment during our New England road-trip.…
Stowe flake is in a perfect location in Stowe but it needs significant updates. My biggest disappointment was to find out that in order to have your room cleaned it needed to be scheduled. We checked in on a Friday and we were not surprised not having the room cleaned on Saturday (has become a normal ) but when it was not cleaned on Sunday I was surprised. I was told by the front desk that it needed to be scheduled and that it was part of the confirmation email I received. I believe this should have been communicated when we checked in. We paid a premium for this location.
We were unable to check in or even leave luggage until 4pm. The room, although large, was very dated. The door handle fell off, and there was no security lock. The shower was stained and looked dirty. Cleaning was “on request” of which we were not informed so by the third day we had to find new towels and glassware. The restaurant had a horrible breakfast, we didn’t try to go back for dinner. The only pro is the location. It’s about a 2 mile walk to Main Street and just a few minutes drive to attractions and dining.
Very nice hotel with a great location. We stayed in a Premier King room, which was spacious and had a gas fireplace, which made it cozy. There are also several lobbies throughout the hotel with fireplaces. The decor in the rooms is somewhat outdated. The location is perfect... walking distance to several great restaurants (Idletyme, Piecasso), coffee shop, and Alchemist brewery. Also very close to the ski mountain and the downtown. Overall, a cozy hotel in a great location that could be perfect with some minor decor updates to the rooms.
Enjoyable one night stay as we traveled through Stowe. Large room (Room 521). Bath was also large with shower & large tub and double vanity. Gas log fireplace in room on a timer created a special atmosphere
