Nestled in a scenic mountain setting reminiscent of Austria, the Trapp Family Lodge garners praise for its picturesque location and charming Sound of Music theme. While the array of amenities is popular among guests, some caution that room updates are necessary, with varying opinions on space, views, and furnishings. The lodge's staff is often commended for their friendliness, though service can be hit or miss. Cleanliness is typically well-regarded, yet there are sporadic lapses. Travelers also frequently note the steep pricing, questioning the value for money spent.

Excellent stay. I am not exaggerating in saying the Trapp Family Lodge is the best place to stay in the Northeast if you are looking for relaxing, outdoor centric, first class dining and lodging with incredible scenery (on property) and in a quintessential New England small town (Stowe).

I had an excellent experience at the Trapp Family Lodge with my friend. We wanted to do out door activities as much as possible and this resort was a fabulous choice. We hiked outdoors most of our five day stay. We hiked to the chapel in the woods on a guided tour and then to a log cabin on our own. We preferred eating on the premises since the food was excellent, fresh and farm to table quality. The Trapp Family Lodge is truly like being in Austria with it's authentic menu including Weiner Schnitzel, Sacher torte, Apple strudel etc. I was the perfect choice during COVID 19 since all precautions were taken by the hotel for the guests safety. Everyone wore masks, daily cleaning services were optional so you would not have people in your room etc. I even enjoyed seeing one of my favorite movies -The Sound of Music again and learning about the real family and story behind the scenes on the history tour. All in all I would definetely recommend this place to anyone who wishes to spend time in the fresh outdoors with family and friends!

What a perfect way to start off 2021 with fireworks at the Trapp Family Lodge! Our family of four was looking for a quick, drive-able ski trip - and Stowe was an ideal choice. Super easy to drive and park, both at the Lodge and ski area. We felt very safe the entire time with lots of health checks, masks and social distancing, and less crowds made it a perfect time to go.

Accommodations were fantastic, as Trapp Lodge service was impeccable and certainly delivered on being a unique and nostalgic getaway from Zoom call reality that really made you feel like you were on vacation. Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms were more updated than I was expecting with fresh marble, tile and fixtures.

There were lots of opportunities to keep the New Years resolution going with an expansive pool, hot tub, climbing wall, gym and spa; in addition to all the outdoor activities. Plenty of temptations as well with great authentic Austrian inspired dishes, meats and cheeses as well as amazing locally brewed beers at their massive brewery. Frosten was my favorite while
hot pretzels and beer cheese was the new found delicacy for our daughters. Kaffeehaus was also a family hit for a tasty and filling pre-ski breakfast sandwich, danish and of course great coffee.

I only wish we had another day to try out cross country or snowshoeing and get into the backcountry and Slayton Cabin. This will certainly be on our list for another winter visit, although the Lodge looks equally as enchanting across all four seasons.

No value added services for a 2 bed room for >$1,000 / night. If you are looking for camping this might be your place. If you are looking for basic hotel services for $1,000 a night like housekeeping, daily fresh towels, room service, internet without constant connectivity issues, etc this is NOT the place to go. I travel and stay over 100 nights a year in hotels. This is not worth it. See Top Notch Resort in Stowe for a much better experience.

Dear CXN, I apologize that you had Housekeeping and internet issues. This is not the norm and I regret we not able to correct these service inconveniences while you were in house. We do offer twice daily housekeeping with turn down service and we did provide numerous extra guest activities and amenities over the holidays including fireworks, family entertainment, and a jazz band in our Lounge. Every summer, our family takes a “local” trip. This year, we decided to travel to Stowe and stay at the Trapp family lodge. Our kids love the sound of music, and we thought they’d love that and the Austrian history. We were sadly disappointed with our stay. Upon arrival, we walked to the Kaffeehaus to grab a quick bite to eat. Unfortunately, at 2pm, they were out of food. We waited 20 minutes for a cup of coffee. There was one cheerful woman working, and you could see the stress on her face.

Once we went to check in, I was rudely greeted at the front desk. I felt as if I was bothering the man working there by asking how to get to our room. Once at our room, I wondered how clean it actually was...there were cobwebs in all the corners.

The second night we were there, we lost water for close to 12 hours. The five of us couldn’t shower or flush the toilet. We were given a few bottles of water to drink and use for brushing our teeth. The pools were closed the next morning and did not open until after checkout time. While I understand problems can arise, how were guests not offered anything else for such an inconvenience? I’ve stayed at Red Roof Inn before and was given better customer service and recovery for inconveniences like this.

While we will probably return to Stowe in the future, we won’t be returning to this “resort” anytime soon.

Thank you for visiting us here in Stowe, and for taking the time to share your experience. We have had to change operations and offerings at the Kaffeehaus this summer due to Vermont's restrictions, and are actively working to improve our ability to serve all our guests. We do regret that the Lodge was unexpectedly without running water due to a Stowe Water issue for a period of time during your stay, which we understand caused discomfort for our guests. We hear you, and will do more to mitigate that discomfort in the event of another issue. We do hope to have another chance to make your visit to Stowe relaxing and enjoyable.

My wife and I just returned from a five day stay at Trapp Family Lodge. The hotel benefits tremendously from being situated on a magical 2600 acre property with stunning scenery and seemingly unlimited opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking and biking .
Unfortunately, for hotel guests the good news stops there .
The hotel itself is rather dated and the staff is comprised of a few very friendly people who try their best to cover for some of the grumpiest, unfriendly staff I’ve ever encountered at a seemingly deluxe upscale establishment.
I do applaud the hotel’s effort to provide a vacation experience during this unprecedented covid pandemic but food offerings are limited at best and guests are pretty much on their own .
They have a nice outdoor pool but the chance of finding a staff member there providing any type of service is close to zero .
The room charge is fair but be prepared to pay a 35 dollar daily activity fee and tons more for any meal or bike rental.
Speaking of bikes , my wife had the unfortunate experience of falling off her bike on the first day because she was unable to see an absolutely invisible thin rope laid across the entrance to a gravel trail literally a few hundred yards from the hotel entrance.
This invisible string is meant to keep cars out .
She ended up with a broken elbow and bruised ribs .
Of course I informed the hotels outdoor center who rents the bikes and the front desk about the incident and the dangerous situation this pathetic invisible rope poses to all guests .
Not only did they totally ignore my suggestion to put better markers but no one even had the decency to check on her the following 4 days that we were still there .
I do thank the few lovely staff that gave her ice for her elbow and a reassuring smile .
So all in all it was a very unfortunate experience.
My wife and I did our best to enjoy all that Stowe has to offer and the incredible beauty of the area certainly provided us with some rest and relaxation but there are many choices in Stowe and I would highly recommend finding a different place to stay .
If you want to see and enjoy Trapps magnificent property just buy a daily pass for ten dollars but do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to stay or perhaps go straight to Austria instead .

Hi Sonny, I am so sorry about your wife's incident on her bike. I know we had addressed the issue with you the day it had happened to ensure she was okay as our staff helped treat her and I am sorry that there was not another follow up by staff regarding her injury. The rope in question is green with 4 orange flags hanging from it and we've had it up for many years without incident until this past week during your wife's unfortunate fall. As we mentioned during the incident, we are truly sorry she did not see it. We do have our lounge and patio, our Kaffeehaus Deli and bakery and our Bierhall all open either for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The only eatery that is not open is our main dining room but we are serving dinner in our lounge due to our limited capacity of 50%. The resort fee does include all of the following as well: History Talk, Meet the Cows Tour, Lodge Tour, 10% Discount on Dinner in the Main Dining Room, Nightly Turndown Service (upon request during COVID), Resort Shuttle Service, In-Room Coffee, Disc Golf Orientation; Seasonal , Wildflower Walk,, Valet Parking, NY Times Digest, Farm Animals / Gardens Tour, Indoor & Outdoor Pools & Hot Tub, Fitness Center Access, 18 Hole Disc Golf Course, Mountain Bike Trail Pass, Sugar Maple Tour, Bird Watching, Wireless Internet Access, Ice Cream Social , Bicycle & Ski Storage, BBC "The Real Maria" Movie, Learning the Forest Tour, Sing Along, Live Piano 5/6 Days Per Week, Campfire & S'mores, Lawn Games, 30k of private Mountain Bike Trails. I hope that if you can give us a second chance you can take advantage of the many offering we have to offer. I am also sorry that you did not feel the staff was friendly. I assure you we have a great team that cares about customer service and safety and will be sure to bring your suggestions to the powers that be to ensure a more pleasant stay in the future. As we navigate the new normal of COVID we are not able to have as many touch points such as drink service at the pool as well but look forward to slowly offering more amenities as we make our way out of the pandemic hopefully in the near future. We do truly appreciate your business and if we can offer you another chance to exceed your expectation we hope we can do so.

We stayed for five nights over NYE. While we weren’t expecting luxury accommodations and expecting a more mountainy lodge place, for what we paid a night, felt service really lacked. We understand it’s difficult times during the pandemic, however, if you are charging over $600 a night, you should get fresh soap, towels, water bottles daily and trash emptied without having to ask for It. When we did ask we were looked at like we had three heads. The bell captain who helped assist us to our room was just plain rude. Obviously he didn’t feel we tipped him enough and made it very clear. (We are far from cheap tippers too I might add). Service for the “most” part was barely cordial. In the lounge they never announce last call and the kitchen closes after lunch until dinner time. So if you are in search of an afternoon snack you are plain out of luck. I suggest bringing your own snacks as there was a mini frig in our room. The grounds are lovely and offer a variety of activities which was definitely the highlight. You can snowshoe, cross country ski or take a horse drawn sleigh ride. We brought our own snowshoes and when my husband asked one of the attendants in our the outdoor activities tent to check his equipment she was just plain rude and said oh I don’t know those. The trails were poorly marked and even after asking for help inside about which trail to take, we got no help. We heard others make the same complaint. We used the pool one day and it was so cloudy I couldn’t even see the wall doing my laps. If you want to get to the hot tub after the pool you have to go upstairs and cross over to the other side and down the stairs to get outside. They need to make a better way to transition from pool to hot tub. We had lunch in the lounge one day and it was pretty gross. Barely warm soup, they ran out of pretzels (really? Isn’t that your thing here?, )bratwurst was dry and overcooked. Therefore, we chose other restaurants off the property which were great. We did eat at the brewery our first night and enjoyed it very much. Good beers, pretzels were yummy and we had the sausage platter. The bratwurst was great but the other two sausages offered were dry and seemed over cooked. Hanging in the lounge was lovely with the fireplace. Basically if you are in there you tend to the fire. Parking was easy except there was no lighting at night so it made it hard to see your way back to the stairs going to the hotel. Overall, we came for the history/Austrian experience, it was nice. However, we won’t be running back anytime soon.

Every service or extra costs $$$. With the high price of a villa (just under $11,000 for Dec. 28-Jan, one should be able to access amenities of the property without high charges, ie tour of the property, use of snowshoe/cross country trails. The ‘movies’ included only The Sound of Music. We would have liked to take our little ones to a children’s movie during the day or early in the evening (no movies available on the TVs). The games in the villa were all missing pieces. The cot and crib we requested weeks in advance we’re not in the room and we’re only delivered after bedtime despite calls by 5pm.
The positive big plus was that the villa is very nicely equipped and roomy and attractive.

We stayed at Trapp Family Villas and they are very well designed, well equipped, peaceful and restful. Family groups will be very comfortable, and there is usually something for any age group. The garbage disposal was tricky, but once we realized you had to push down on the black plunger to run it, we were all set. The kitchen has full sized high quality appliances. The TV has a reasonable slection of channels including HBO. The roms are large, and the bathroms very accommodating. We had 3 large bedrooms and three and a half baths.

The Trapp Family Lodge is located in a stunning mountain location with beautiful views in all directions. The rooms are way overpriced for what they are and there are additional fees such as $35.00 per day resort fee, land conservation fee and multiple layers of taxes. The meals are priced far above average, and portions are small. Alcohol of all types is far pricier than normal.

Parking is limited and not paved so it is a dust bowl and involves lengthy walks to and from your vehicle.

There seems to be a lack of management or leadership to bring this place together so that it can run smoothly. There is a disconnect starting with the front desk and including dining areas, special events and activities. Services are spotty and can create unnecessary confusion. A few well placed signs could be very helpful....such as where to find the dining rooms and how to get to the outdoor center from the lobby.

Dining reservations need to be made far in advance for guests to have any chance
of a seat in the dining areas. It is easier to dine elsewhere in one of Stowe's many fine restaurants.

This is not a good place for people who have trouble walking and is not equipped for the handicapped. No wheelchair ramps were observed and no accessible public restrooms. Some elevators were out of service for a time during our stay. Some rooms can only be accessed by stairs.

The outdoor pool has no landscaping, no shade and only two tables with an umbrella. No food or bar service. Not at all inviting.

Daily housekeeping is not provided but will be offered on request. All of our housekeeping needs were responded to in an excellent fashion.

I would think that Trapp could provide you with a synopsis of the history then you could do your own walk around tour of the property. It’s beautiful. Lots of other activities like mountain biking and hiking trails. Dining is great and don’t miss the beer hall. Great food and beer. All in the Tyrolean decor. Enjoy.
