Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed here while visiting with our daughter and her fiancé. The property is above average; the room is average. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The property covers a large area. You have to walk a few minutes from the main building to get to the outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, as well as the building with the indoor swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. There are outdoor fire pits as well. The resort is pet friendly. If you bring your (allowed) pet, you can stay on the first floor of the main building.
Our room (337) was spacious and comfortable. Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were provided in pump bottles mounted to the tub/shower wall.
We did have a problem with the HVAC unit, where it would not work with the control on the wall to keep the room cool. (The problem was fixed the next day.) We requested floor fans the first night to cool off the room, which were not available. It was also very noisy when the unit turned on. You could also hear some road noise from the room.
We used the "Do Not Disturb" sign to ensure that housekeeping would not come into our room. We had plenty of towels and hanging space in the bathroom for our stay. I felt that adequate precautions were taken for cleanliness in these COVID times.

Went here a couples weekend in August 2020. Hotel was only half full so I felt good with the social distancing. We'd recommend it for couples and those looking for a few days away. It's not really a luxury resort, but it is nice and pleasant. Here is our review:
Location: A
Right on the main road and so a short drive to everything. Walking distance (across the street) to the bike path where you can get bikes right at the store. Very convenient.
Staff: A
Front desk, wait staff, and concierge were super friendly and helpful, giving us tips on where to go, and what to do.
Rooms: B-
While the rooms are large and bed was comfy, the bathrooms are a bit dated and the shower handle got stuck a lot. And there are no balcony's at this hotel which is a bummer on a nice day you'd want to sit outside and read a book or something. Sometimes I felt i was in a nice motel room.
Pool: B
Decent size pool and there are 3 of them (small one for adults; large one for families; and an indoor one). The outside pools were FREEZING. Even on a hot day it's too cold to go in the water. I know heating pools are expensive but it makes a world of difference. No one wants to jump into an ice box and it sort of ruins the experience. There also aren't enough seats for everyone due to social distancing so one day we had to come back.
Restaurant: B+
Never ate dinner here but the breakfast was A+ and the lunch a good B. Service was very slow at all times but we weren't in a huge rush. We found the staff friendly.

Hello BostonGirl02118, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your August getaway. Our pools are heated to 80 degrees so please never hesitate to let us know if the temperature is amiss and we will notify our engineering team to investigate promptly. We do in fact have a few balconies/decks on the larger suites on each floor as well as the majority of the resort homes if that is something that would add value for your next visit definitely let our reservations team know as it would be their pleasure to help you find that experience with us. We're also very pleased you found our team to meet the mark on being gracious, well informed hosts. That is a cornerstone of our property's hospitality dynamic. We hope you'll have the opportunity to stay with us again in the very near future so we can offer that same warm welcome back. Kind Regards, Team Topnotch

Due to covid we needed a relaxing and safe get-away to which we could drive for the holidays. The 6 hour drive was pleasant and well worth it! We are grandparents with daughter and grandbaby so we rented a resort home that we found clean, comfortable, spacious, and well appointed. The baby loved to run around in what was a safe space :-). We loved the gas fireplaces. We chose to cook in most meals so appreciated the well equipped kitchen (however, if you are planning a long stay you will need small necessities like foil or plastic wrap, dishcloth, spray cleaner for counter, better paper towels). The location is superb - and we even had a lovely view of the mountain ski trails.

So I am not one to write reviews but I feel I need to warn people about this place. We first stayed at "top notch" in August for our first vacation in years as we are always so busy. At booking they never mentioned anything about the spa being booked out for 3-5 months so when we arrived we go to spa to book appointments only to realize it's full with mostly people who aren't even staying and bought a day/weekend pass. This was the same for the pool/jacuzzi area. The room was so outdated
and disgusting, the air conditioner filters hadn't been cleaned in what looked like years. The carpet had holes on it, the windows were filthy, the bathroom was tiny. If you sit on the toilet and don't stuff yourself into the corner to close the door you weren't closing it once on the toilet since it was inches from toilet. The 20 year old bathtub was held together with duct tape and super glue. I could literally go on and on and on. We showed top notch these pictures and they refunded our trip and gave us a complimentary weekend trip which was nice. We actually got a massage this time which was the only good thing about this place. It needs to be closed down and gutted and completely remodeled. We nicknamed it middle Notch because if this is top notch I do not know what life is anymore. I have stayed at motel 6's that blow this place out of the water. My advice to anyone staying is Stowe, book spa appts months in advance at the top notch spa and then stay somewhere else so you don't have to deal with the horrible overpriced rooms. I wouldn't go back if they payed us too. It's not worth the 3.5 hour drive. If they offered me the keys to the place and said here it's yours now I would turn them down. I hope people wake up and realize this place for what it is. Just because of covid and inflation and being a "resort town" this place is an over priced travesty and I hope this review saves some of you money. Good luck and safe travels.

Hello Middlenotch, I'm sorry to hear that despite out efforts to go the extra mile in demonstrating our sincere desire to make your experience in line with expectations that we fell short of that goal. We will always endeavor to bring a smile to your face and sense of value when you stay with us. I'm proud to say we have owners who have consistently invested in the property as I'm certain you noticed in our spa on your invite back trip. We will continue to reinvest in our property and customer experience in the comings years and I hope that at some point in the future you will find yourself tempted to return and feel well rewarded for doing so. Unfortunately I found the front desk personnel to be less than welcoming. They were curt and seemed disinterested. When our room was ready (at 4:45 instead of 4), it was evident that the cleaning staff had been here as our floors were soaking wet. The gentleman who came from the housekeeping staff to help us with our lock was lovely. But we learned that our room ($962.50/night) is quirky and that management is aware of it. Our fireplace heats our living room. So, our fireplace can only be on when our room is cooler than the desired temperature. The people in the room above us are very noisy and we can not only hear their footsteps but their conversations as well. I would find it difficult to recommend this resort. I had stayed here 20 years ago and remember it as being lovely. I cannot say the same today.

Hi Marla B, I'm sorry that the check in process was so unsatisfactory. The Friday travel challenges with demand for skiing and poor weather conditions resulted in many staff arriving 2 hours late for work shifts which did result in some delayed arrival rooms. We always do our best to work against these challenges and still meet the guaranteed check in. The resort homes are independently owned and utilize Topnotch as the managing entity. We always take your feedback seriously and make the home owner aware of how their home is impacting our guests. This allows them to consider making updates that help improve your experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly to discuss the experience further, we will always take measures to ensure you your vacation is in line with your expectations. Thank you for taking the time to convey you sentiments and I hope to have the opportunity to speak with you in the not too distant future. Kind Regards, Jeremy Fraize Rooms Manager

With the price of services, and having been to comparable spa resorts, we were disappointed in the overall amenities and treatments. The relaxation/waiting room was right off the entrance to the spa and adjacent locker room, which resulted in a noisy atmosphere. It was also very awkward to be escorted through the locker room and down a set of stairs to receive the massage. It was not fun to have to climb stairs after the treatment, either. We were also disappointed that the massage time was cut short...there were two of us and we both found that our treatment time included the time walking to the treatment room, disrobing, talking to the therapist, and returning to the relaxation room. That means that our massages were cut short by several minutes. The massage had good technique but was very "piecemeal" with very choppy components and it did not flow well. There were a lot of hands-off moments that made the massage feel very rushed and not synchronized at all. The nail treatments were also sub-par and the nail techs were more interested in talking to each other and we would have preferred a nice, relaxing environment with minimal talking. We paid for a luxury spa experience and could have gotten better services at a local massage parlor or nail salon for a quarter of the price. We have been to many spas and this would rate as one of the poorest by far. We do not take reviews lightly and wish we had known this information before spending a good sum of money on this experience. We are very willing to pay for quality services and often pay upwards of $200 per massage but the quality is far superior, as is the atmosphere. In addition, a gratuity of 22% was automatically added, which was more than the standard.

We booked a weekend away in late August. We normally stay at the Spruce Peak Inn in Stowe but wanted to try something different. The room was $660 per night and felt more like a $250-$300 room. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful but rooms left much to be desired, the bathroom was very dated and layout was cramped with a single small sink, not a good setup for more than one person. We paid extra for a third floor room and had a view of the parking lot.
The grounds are very beautiful and if you were there to play tennis or swim in the pool you may have enjoyed more.
If you can get the room for under $300 and plan on using the spa/pool/tennis courts this may be the hotel for you. If you are looking for luxury or high end lodging I would not recommend.

Resort is peaceful, sits in a beautiful view of the monutains. We were here 6 years ago and nothing has changed and we mean nothing. Place could use an update. TV in "the Notch" is way too small for the area. Fountain and indoor hottub needs updateing, stone is broken and metal around the area is rusted. The Roost is the only restuarant on site that is operational. Food is mediocre, never as hot as it should be. My husband sent his pasta dish back because it was cold and still was only slightly warm. The menu is very limited and when your there for more than a day or two you will tire of the choices quickly. We eneded up going outiside the resort and the local places are awesome. The Roost is severly overpriced especially for breakfast. The staff throughout the resort are great, more than willing to assist with anything needed. With regards to the room, the tub is ridicuoulsy high, they should all be removed and just have walk-in showers which are much safer option. There is no night life, even the bar shuts down by 10. Firepits are great and are wll stocked with wood.

Hello P9086ZYlindad, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I'm sorry to see the onsite dining fell short this visit. Our culinary team does update the menu seasonally and always takes into account the customer feedback when doing so. Stowe does tend to roll up the sidewalks early with many late night opportunities being limited, however our concierge and desk team will always happily point you in the directions of the options in town. Often the winter holds a stronger late night crowd which you might find more rewarding on a future trip to Stowe. Kind Regards, Jeremy Fraize Assistant General Manager

Very expensive for a bare bones experience, rooms without any charm, very noisy through paper thin walls, staff I encountered were not helpful, one woman raised her eyebrows at me when I asked for towels to be brought to the firepit to dry off the chairs. Front desk was unfamiliar with the concept of holding our bags after we checked out the last morning. We wanted to ski and come back for them, I had to speak to more than one person to arrange this and was treated like I had asked them to assist in draining a boil.

They made us wait until the exact time of check in since our room wasn't ready yet.
Well, they were right because we checked in to a dirty/smelly room that still had cleaning supplies in it. They were totally resistant to switching our room at first but then finally relented. We did have to move rooms on the last day which was a pain but certainly better than having to stay in a dirty room. At checkout we were billed $400 for our dog ($100/day) despite the booking site we used showing max $25/day. Additionally, the service in the Flannel restaurant on Christmas night was beyond slow despite a half empty dining room. It's very clear that this place is understaffed and it's a shame because it's a nice property and the people there are trying their best but can't deliver without more help.

Hello Q8352KMtimothyr, We value your feedback and did our best to accommodate the challenges at check in with the complimentary Mountain view upgrade to help offset some of those frustrations. Our housekeeping team is dedicated to ensuring the rooms are in good order pre arrival and I can confidently say this is not a frequent occurrence, rather a rare oversight on a heavy volume work day. In regards to the pet fee, please feel free to connect with us directly. Our pet fee has been $100.00 a night for better than two years now and we have worked diligently to ensure that information has been updated uniformly across multiple platforms. If you provide us with a screen shot of where the information reflecting the lower rate was, we would gladly honor the information you had at your disposal at the time of booking. I hope our sincere efforts to help improve this experience impacts you in a manner that would leave you inclined to stay with us again and allow us the opportunity to "wow" you from arrival to departure. Kind regards, Jeremy Fraize Rooms Manager
