I stayed here while taking a weaving class in Putney. The Inn gave a discount to the students so that was nice. The room was very clean, quiet and nicely decorated. Even though it is near the highway you really don’t hear the traffic. The train occasionally runs nearby but that was not noticeable. The owner was polite and welcoming. The room always had fresh towels and soap each day. The bathroom was kept very nice. It’s a nice place to stay and the price is right.
Compared to other motels in the area, the Putney Inn is very well priced. Spacious, clean room and a huge area to shower----unlike other Vermont venues. I mean it is 3x-4x larger. Our stay was very quiet. I have 2 suggestions for the owners. First put bars in the shower to hold on to. Second, make your "Office" sign more prominent. Exiting the highway all we saw was a vacant parking lot. Not realizing that parking was on the other side of the motel, we thought that the Putney Inn had closed.
I chose the Putney Inn mainly because of the tastefully renovated rooms I saw online. I was not disappointed in that regard. However, not everything was renovated—for instance, the HVAC unit in my room looked like it was from the 50s or 60s, probably original to the building. And the bathroom door, perhaps due to the old, painted-over hinges, would not actually stay closed, and the painter forgot the back side. The grout around the top of the tub was deteriorating because . . . Um, it’s grout. You don’t have to be a home (or motel) improvement expert to know that the tub joint should be caulked, not grouted. I did like the spaciousness of the room, the desk, and the sliding window and door that could let in the cool breeze. The bed was pretty comfortable. Traffic noise from the interstate is an issue during the day, but it got much quieter at night. The staff here was struggling, but they did get things done. There were adequate choices for breakfast and everything was fresh. Just don’t go all at the same time, because there were only two tables in the office/breakfast area! There is a restaurant building on the property, but it is now closed. The bottom line here is that The Putney Inn offers a comfortable, renovated room at a good price, if you don’t mind the fairly isolated location and the barely-there staffing.…
