Stayed here with the family over New Years which appears to be off-season for this establishment. Nevertheless, the resort was charming, the staff helpful and overall had a very nice time despite frigid temperatures outside. Two best things: the room was SPOTLESS and the hot apple cider and fresh cookies in the afternoon were delicious (although the cookies ran out...

Dear 101reasons, Thank you for choosing to ring in 2014 with us. I must say that your perception that it was a slow period for us is a huge compliment to me. We were to capacity for NYE and if it seemed calm and serene....that is great news :) Please come back soon and we will make sure to have...

As a 60 yr. veteran traveller there are not many places which my wife and I have not visited. Last evening we were afforded by far and away the best dinner we have ever experienced. And experienced is the correct term as I am getting weak in the knees right now just thinking about how good it was. Each bite...

Perfect combo of a Hotel and a Culinary experience! We spend 3 night's and New Year's eve. They also welcome pets mostly dogs and ours was in heaven! They charge $45.00 per night! Bit high! The Food at the bar is great. Main restaurant has a tasting menu that looked great we did not try it this time but last...

I discovered The Essex on a business trip in 2011. I have returned the past two years for vacation because I absolutely fell in love with it! It's got a homey feel, the food is so fabulous it's indescribable, and they serve Green Mountain coffee! (So tired of Starbucks at most places) The team of staffers wants to make you...

We found this place on Groupon and were excited at the culinary classes mixed with beautiful VT. Chef Anthony was soooo Awesome for our Wellness Class and fun we signed up for a SECOND New Orleans class with him, glad we did shrimp and grits, collard greens, banana fosters mmmmm. The meal plans and recipes were "spot on" yummy and...

This resort is wonderful. Six family members stayed for two nights. We also brought our dog. We were treated perfectly! not one complaint. Other guests were so friendly and staff was so helpful, even fixing a Christmas gift for us with a special tool. The food was so delicious. Very comfortable beds and beautiful grounds and indoor pool. Better than...

Take advantage of the cooking academy and the spa during your stay! Also, our pet came along for our stay and the resort was accommodating and welcoming to our canine. The location is close to Burlington making it an easy drive to tour the Burlington area.

Went for a family reunion and honestly did not expect much nor did I know much about the hotel. I was so pleasantly surprised. The peaceful setting and well manicured grounds make the Essex a nice alternative to staying in the city. The resort has easy proximity to the University of Vermont and Church Street shopping, good on-site dining options, and is pet-friendly in every way. I have stayed here several times and always enjoyed it.
