Not a lot of hotels off I-10 in west Texas, but we decided to give this one a try. Lovely old historic hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were small but we were delighted to find the refrigerator and microwave in the closet. We had the front corner room and noticed we could see the train tracks a block away. We...

There is now a very nice buffet, including hard-boiled eggs and whole wheat toast included in room rate. As atmospheric and aesthetically pleasing as this hotel is, the actual accommodation is very very small. Though the fixtures are attractive, the bathroom was hard to turn around in, with no good place to open a toiletries bag.

Due to this being a small town, there aren't many hotels to choose from. We chose the El Capitan obviously for the historical aspect of it. The hotel lobby is GORGEOUS! The staff weren't overly friendly when we checked in. We took the stairs to the 2nd floor and proceeded to our room, #210. All the drapes were open on...

I stayed at El Capitan for 3 weeks for work. I usually stay in chain hotels, but our crew decided to try it out. This hotel was adorable and worth it. It is a historic hotel from the 30's and has been remodeled. The rooms were a bit small (historic), and the breakfast was meh. But it has a gorgeous...

Returning to Arizona from a long road-trip out east, I had made reservations at the El Capitan Hotel in Van Horn, Texas. The road we traveled would take through El Paso, but that is not a place I want to stay again. We will simply add 120 miles to the journey for the following day by staying in Van Horn....

We only stayed here because the elevator at the Hampton Inn was broken. We paid $179.00 plus tax for a suite or what they call a suite. This old landmark hotel had been renovated and the pubic areas, lobby, gym etc. are quite nice. The rooms, not so much. Our room was old, creaky, kind of dirty and looked like...

First off, I'm not a picky person. I can handle a stain, crack, a bit of dust...but this room we got was small, hot (ac didn't come back on), comforter was stained, Ceiling fan is extremely dusty. turned it off immediately. My 3 year old randomly got nauseous and threw up because of the old musty stench of this hotel....

An Oasis in the desert, except: Loud train goes by just across the street. No phones in rooms. Our A/C didn't work. Desk chairs do not adjust well. Small "off brand TV's". Really small rooms compared to chain hotels. Clocks not set, and hard to set. Good restaurant and bar on site. Established in 1930.

I stayed here a couple of nights with some friends. We were exploring the area. It is a nice, friendly place which the locals cisit in the evenings for drinks and dinner. The rooms a small, and can be noisy from the halls, which is typical, I have found, from historic hotels like this. The lobby and public rooms are...

Hotel and rooms were clean. Bed and pillows were comfortable. The rooms were small, but still pleasant. The doors and walls don't seem to insulate noise very well, but not much traffic sown our hallway. The food and service at the Gopher Hole was excellent, however breakfast needs an overhaul. Nothing worse than a lukewarm cup of coffee first thing...
