Detailed Reviews
I discovered shamrock Texas when I realized I could drive no further. It is a charming well-preserved route 66 type of town
The Western Mattel is on the main drag . I was greeted by a lovely lady who could not have been more charming or accommodating giving me a choice of smoking room when I had not requested one (oh so hard to find these days).
The room itself was well appointed recently redecorated and did not smell of smoke.
Before I could make it all the way back down the stairs the ladies equally charming handsome husband met me with my Visa card which I had inadvertently left in the office.
My one complaint the area where the heater AC unit was located was not well lit causing me to set it incorrectly until I used my phone's flashlight and looked more closely.

During a driving trip on Route 66 in June 2020, I stopped at the Western Motel in Shamrock TX. I did not have a reservation, and checked on the Western Inn on Trip Advisor online as I sat in the parking lot.
The Western Inn is a nice, traditional motel right along the path of Route 66, and is a very clean and well maintained property. It is also a GREAT value, since the $65 a night rate for my room was the lowest I have spent on a hotel room in decades. However, the hotel and my room were much better maintained than other places I have stayed that charged more than double that price. It's an older traditional motel in a small town, so it's not the RItz Carlton. Everything isn't "brand new", but it was exactly what I was looking for on this trip.
The owner/manager was extremely helpful, not only providing great recommendations for dinner and breakfast, but he came outside and pointed out several areas of interest for Route 66 enthusiasts, directed me to the room, and took the extra time to make me feel welcome and appreciated. He also gave me a room overlooking the beautifully restored Conoco station and cafe ( a town landmark), which now hosts the Chamber of Commerce.
The motel itself was very clean and well maintained. The owner took a lot of pride in his establishment, and you can tell a lot of effort is made to ensure guests have a very comfortable stay.
It is not fancy or shiny, but it IS a classic Route 66 Motel that I would gladly stay at again.

The rooms are very nice. Being in the Hotel Industry 20 + years, I observe the details in a room vs how much I pay for. Here in Shamrock, TX the Western Motel goes above and beyond. The person at the front desk was good. Inside the rooms had everything including small personal touches that will make the traveler feel very relaxed.

I am driving cross country with my good friend. Because I am relocating. We left from Tennessee and we are heading to Tucson Arizona. We found this motel because we did not want to stay in Amarillo due to their prices of big box chains. All we wanted was a room to sleep in that was safe we wanted a comfortable bed and we wanted to working AC and a shower for one night on our long travels ahead. This motel definitely provided that. The ladies at the front were super knowledgeable and very nice and professional. They even give us advice on where to eat nearby. We didn’t want to get back in the car and try to find food so we walked five minutes up the road and found a very nice pizza place to eat dinner. We got a great deal on a room. I had to pay a small Pepsi for my little doggie. I had a really good night sleep and I was safe and comfortable. For the trip ahead the next day. We left really early and you could put your key in the key box at the front door. I definitely would recommend this motel because number one if it’s on the way to your destinations and you were tired and you need a bed to lay your head down and you need a cool dark room to sleep and you need to be safe than you need to use this motel because you will get all that. Do not go looking for a pool or a Jacuzzi here. You will not find it. You will find a safe place to sleep for the night so you can continue your drive wherever your journey takes you.

We hadn't planned on stopping for the night in Shamrock, TX but life happens! We rolled up around 10 pm and the owner was a breath of sunshine! Such a wonderful man! We had the option of a smooking or non smoking room, which is just something you don't hear anymore. My friend is a smoker so I thought what the heck, let her bask in the excitement. lol The room was clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was nicer and larger than mine at home! lol. I do wish they had breakfast as its a small town and the restaraunts didn't open until 11am and we didn't want McDonalds. Right across the street is a Route 66 stop as well! Tower Station and U-Drop Inn and Tower Café! A must see!

As travelers of Route 66, my husband and I, as well as our Roadie friends, love staying here! The owners are very friendly and accommodating; they also make sure their rooms are clean and comfortable!
The owners know most Route 66ers LOVE neon, so we usually get to stay upstairs, facing the U Drop Inn and it’s beautiful neon. The owners recently repainted the rooms, which were already nice. The beds are cozy and comfy!

Locally owned, historic Route 66 stop right off of the Mother Road and close to the best cafe in town, Get Sifted. Check them out. Clean rooms, bathrooms etc. Beautiful view out over historic Route 66. Clerk was super friendly and personable. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Will definitely be back.

A must stay for anyone doing a historic Route 66 trip! The historic motel was a great stay, nice clean room. Several rooms overlook the neon gas station next door to really make you feel like you are back in the past. The crown gem of the stay was really the staff!! They were super accommodating, knowledge of the sites to see in Shamrock, and very helpful! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a nice peaceful stay along historic Route 66!

I travel for work, and for fun, and I do it on a budget. This place is great for quality and price. The owners are fantastic people and always make sure the rooms are ready and clean. It is one of very very few motels that have rooms with 3 queen beds. and with a family of 6, that is great. Whether your a crew working in the area, or a family driving across the country, make this one of your stops.

I really wanted to like this motel but it was just ok. I knew it was an older place when I made the reservation but aside from a few cosmetic touches it is still pretty basic inside. The furniture is outdated and I’d guess the carpet and drapes have been there awhile. The a/c ran continuously which was actually ok as it helped drown out the highway noise. With our dog and tax we paid $117 (with AAA), so it really wasn’t a hot bargain.
The upside was being able to park right in front of our room. The people who helped check us in were very friendly and the room seemed clean.
We gave it a try but doubt we will return.
