This is a great location for a larger group to spend time together, over looks the river and has large community spaces. Right across the street from river rafting/tubing outfit so no driving required. Slowly being renovated by the new owners.

Wow, the new owners have updated the rooms. New floors, paint, flat screen tv. Very clean. It is much improved over last year. They have tube rentals and a great riverside location. Plan on bringing family back for a weekend later this year!!!!!!

The Gruene River Outpost lodge is just off the beaten track from I-35, behind all the highway hotels, in an idyllic little spot on the river where you can find relaxation and plenty of green for sore eyes. The management and staff there are rebuilding this site and are very accommodating and hospitable. Charles, in charge of the reconstruction, initiates...

Yes, this place is rustic, BUT, it is filthy and is a dump. It is outrageously overpriced. No one ever came to clean our room. We checked in and were greeted in our room by a live lizard, live and dead roaches, and a cracked toilet seat. They did not replace the toilet seat, but did repair it with tape....

Stayed one night over Labor Day and it was one night too many. Location is great, but if I could have simply pitched a tent on the grounds, it would have been a better stay. Room was dirty and very outdated. Toilet was loose and moved around. Floors and walls were filthy and the pool looked like a lab experiment...

Great location, but MAJOR need of help! We stayed over the RECORD BREAKING FLOAT WEEKEND 7/23-7/27.... and everywhere on the river was a happening spot.... except here! We were here from Wednesday to Sunday and the pool was not cleaned once! Upon arrival, after paying for one of the rooms with a full size fridge, we found that the room...

Completely dissatisfied. Location is great. Pool was cloudy, and a lot of leaves, trash. No chairs or lounges at the pool. Grounds not kept up, mowed, etc. buildings are neglected, rotting, holes in walls, bugs, ants. Would not recommend or go back. River access is not good.

This is not a good place to stay and I totally wish that I would have checked trip advisor before booking this place. The beds are the creakiest, nosiest beds I have ever slept in. They are at least 20 years old. The tile floors turned our feet black after walking around for just a few minutes. Needless to say,...

Checked in on Friday 6/20/14. The tiny room they put us in for $160 a night had no fridge or microwave and the grounds around were overgrown. We were then move right upstairs to another room and the toilet leaked water everywhere. They moved us again. The 3rd room was bigger but one of the beds had a giant crater...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Come on down and enjoy our laid-back, family owned river lodge in New Braunfels along the beautiful banks of the Guadalupe River. The Lodge is a place to let your hair down, relax, grab a cold beer and enjoy exciting activities on the river, from kayaking to tubing and rafting. Play a game of volleyball, dive into the sparkling swimming pool, or play video games on the big screen in our clubhouse. If none of that strikes your fancy, head to historic Gruene for some local shopping, enjoy our Texas flavors or people watch with a glass of Texas wine under the trees. Don't forget to check out Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas. Later in the afternoon, back at The Lodge, relax in a hammock under the canopy of pecan and black oak trees. As night falls, the fireflies let you know that it is time for a campfire, s'mores and maybe a ghost story. Our accommodations and location are perfect for Snowbirds or Winter Texans as known by the locals. Many of our rooms have full kitchens and queen-size pillow-top beds. "It is a wonderful property with none of the cookie cutter look and feel of "today". It is a home away from home feel." ... more   less
