With this hotel, I guess most times you'll get out of it what you expect. It is a bit expensive for what is a standard "motor inn" size place, but the aesthetic, design, and individuality of the hotel totally suits the art tourist vibe of Marfa. The room was minimalist rather than spartan, and considering we were there for a...

This was perhaps the WORST hotel we have ever stayed at! And not inexpensive!! I don't know how anyone could give this place a good review. To start, the room is tiny, cold and uninviting. The one chair in the room is uncomfortable and useless. No desk, just narrow table with a lamp that is purposeless. Old tube tv hangs...

If you make your way to Marfa and want the minimal chic experience a la South Beach, then the Thunderbird is for you. Concrete floors, a very comfortable bed, basic but adequate bath. This is not about a room to linger in, but it is comfortable. Fair warning, the train tracks run just behind the hotel, so if you are...

This hotel knocked me out. While it perfectly fits my aesthetics, I can see why others don't enjoy it. I loved everything about it-- the concrete floors, the bed is perfect, the rug-- the bathroom, which isn't separated, is different and cool for a quick stay. It's not like I'm living there forever, so I enjoy being in a place...

Looks pretty but on closer inspection the walls are thin....you can hear everything through the walls, there are 2 pairs of earplugs in all rooms. This could also be due to the fact a loud train goes through a couple of times in the night. No-one on hand to really look after things like dry the wet seat covers at...

I'd agree that this place is super stylish, looks like an issue of Wallpaper magazine. The downside is that it's not especially warm and cozy. Poured concrete floors are cool in both senses of the word. Bathroom isn't fully separated, so you can hear everything another person is doing. The linens are nice. Toiletries are nice. I'd check the prices...

Would agree with the other reviews of the Thunderbird. It's a strip motel that's been quite stylishly updated to reflect the funky / artsy / Texas atmosphere that is Marfa. Beds and linens were very nice and comfortable, rooms had lots of space, good location for getting around the town, staff was friendly and helpful and there's a pool! Loved...

If you like the San Jose in Austin, you'll love the Thunderbird. Same old motel remodeled and Mod-ified, funky fun. Hey, it's Marfa! No luxury, but plenty of nice touches.

We stayed here with the family for one night. We where surprised with the cleanses, the treatment by the staff and how nice this old Motel remaned original and still very modern. If we come back to Marfa it will be difficult to choose between this place and the Paisano Hotel.

The Thunderbird is an old-style strip motel that’s been funkily updated in Marfa minimalism. The rooms have everything you need: comfie beds with decent linens and functional reading lights, lots of space, convenient baths with all amenities and lots of bare surfaces in the bath and main room areas for stashing your stuff. The parking area and loggia are nicely...
