Nice hotel with very Texas themed decor. Only show in town when it comes to places to stay in Marathon. The room was very clean and in keeping with our expectations from other reviews. We dined in the 12 Gage restaurant (part of the hotel) and found the waiting staff to be unattentive and rude at times; however this was...

We had never been to Big Bend although we had been close. Enough of our friends who had told us to go in the spring to see the bluebonnets set against a gorgeous space. So after researching the hotels in the area, we settled in the Gage in Marathon. We were extra excited because after we booked, the hotel was...

My son and I stayed in one of the courtyard rooms. Its was gorgeous! Every detail and the fireplace is charming. The hotel is full of amazing details and Texas charm. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We were late arrivals (after 8 PM) they kept the kitchen open just to make sure we had something to eat. Its...

I have been visiting the Gage off and on for 30 years, and it has changed a lot in that time. It is always comfortable, relaxing, and idiosyncratically rustic. The hotel staff go out of their way to accommodate our needs, from breakfast to special event ice-breakers the food is consistently excellent, special dietary needs are catered for and the...

Have been to Marfa, Fort Davis, Terlingua and now can add Marathon to the list! This is basically the only thing in this remote gorgeous west Texas town. The resort sits over a block long and even has a garden separate casitas and gym across the railroad tracks. Very tastefully decorated - west Texas with lovely pool, popular bar and...

Everyone knows about the Gage, and it's really just as cool as all the buzz (BTW, I've been there 5 times since '93 and I'm an Eastern snob about such things). So, what can I say that's different? Well, first off, it can, in fact, be your home base to visit the BB region - but be warned you gotta...

When you come to Marathon, TX, it is generally to stay at the Gage Hotel. There's not much else there to come for. Spending a night at the Gage is more like an experience than simply a night's stay at some hotel. The old fashioned opulence takes you back in time. You half expect to see horses, locomotives, parasols, and...

We enjoyed our stay at The Gage. We stayed in a room on the second floor of The Captain Shepard House. The house was built in 1890s but was fully restored in 2012. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was great! This house is behind the main hotel but fairly close. There were several rooms where guests can...

While it is rumored to have a ghost sightings in room 9, we did not experience "Casper" at all, but we stayed in room 18 down the hall. The room was very nicely done and comfortable. There are no TV or telephones in the room, but the lobby does have a TV.

Marathon has dwindled since its days as a center of ranching and mining, but is coming back as a spot for R&R and a staging area for trips to the Big Bend. The Gage Hotel, built as the home of a local grandee, is a comfortable and rustically imposing period piece, with a good restaurant, bar, and swimming pool, and...
