Our third visit to the retreat with two 70+ elders accompanying us this time. Unexpected rains gave us a chance to enjoy the lush greenery, sight and sound of rain against the backdrop and silence of the forest. Surreal. Night Safari with Manu was just as exciting as our previous trips with sightings of wild elephants. With mobility constraints, this time we spent more time watching the field from the cottages facing the field. The "elusive" big cat still remains elusive to us! but we know it will happen when the time is right for us to meet each other :) The hilight was on the last day of the stay. Close to dusk, while keenly watching the forest for any movement, from the comfort of the cottage, we spotted a herd of bison moving through the woods. Tracing the herd's movements through the forest as it eventually reached the water hole in the field, was exciting to experience together as a family. It got even better when we got on to the watch tower and got a closer view of them. Over the years, host family has diligently built a beautiful community of wild life enthusiasts by sharing their passion and love for nature with the visitors to their retreat . We are one of their successful converts :) always a pleasure to meet other guests in the dining area with similar interests. This time the conversation was more about how many visits we have all done to the retreat, especially during pandemic! Amit's dishes were delicious and tasted home made. Manu, Bishnu and Harish were ever ready to help with requests. Our first trip out of state post pandemic, in a jungle setting, with two elderly members couldn't have been more warm and comfortable. Thank you :)

This was our 20th visit to our 2nd home. What a memorable trip it was! We went on trek, bird watching with Manu Uncle. We could see signs of nature telling us that the cats were nearby. We just missed seeing another tigress who was hardly 10-15 mins in front of us. We also saw a wild dog, several elephants, gaurs, wild boars, mongoose during our stay. But surely the highlight of the trip was camping on the "End of the World" watchtower with Anil Uncle and our friend Avnita. Uncle and Anju Aunty ensured that we had a memorable experience. When the light was just fading, from not so far away, a barking deer literally gave "barking" alarm calls and moments later we heard the mating calls of the resident male. His call reverberated across the forest! It was certain that he was nearby. Early morning we also saw a very rare Nilgiri Marten. Having Anil Uncle's company and listening to him is always fascinating. Uncle certainly has the most knowledge about the forest and whenever we go to our 2nd Home we always learn something new. The food made by Amit Uncle was finger licking delicious and Bishnu Bhaiya made our trip a very comfortable one. Harish Uncle arranged for everything we needed. Hope to return soon.

After reading all the reviews here and in Google, we knew we were in for something special but nothing could give proper justice to that place. We spent 4 days there, it was amazing. We are regulars in kabini and we had our hopes high while we chose this place. But now we are sure we will never go back to kabini any more. We went to kabini for the safaris and in jungle retreat, we saw most of the animals from our rooms balcony. The food is much better has good veg and non veg options, and they kept feeding us till we couldn't have anymore! The night drive was super exciting, the best was the walk with Ani, I have never been with anyone who knows the jungle better, it is as though he could predict what would happen and the animals felt so relaxed around him. This included a large Elephant that stood a few feet away from him during trek and a female Tigress that was in the water. We expected the Tiger to walk away, but it looked at us which was a bonechilling feeling, but totally ignored us and kept drinking water. I have never felt so close to nature. The experience was magnificent, we will surely make this our base.

My family consists of a bunch of wildlife enthusiasts and we have always been on the lookout for that one place where we can watch animals from our own balcony, just like how we would when we stay in one of those lovely African tents. When I booked this place, little did I know what surprise we as a family were in for. True to its name, a real Retreat in the jungle. We could just sit all day in the lovely balcony of our jungle cottage and enjoy the wonderful sightings. Have you ever been able to see a herd of 8 elephants with a calf a few metres outside of your balcony? That's exactly what we spotted during one of our evenings at this place. And this is not just it. The resident tigress, they call her 'Dot', she frequents the farm and it's surrounding areas and we know this because we experienced hearing her calls at night. The rooms are simple, but equipped with all the basic things that make you comfortable. The luxury here indeed is the view from your balcony, deers galore, wild boars and sometimed a herd of gaur. Food here is amazing, they pamper you with lots although we kept telling them that we would like to go light. The owners and the naturalist are such heartwarming genuine people, they have so much knowledge and you'd be in awe listening to their wildlife experiences. There's no doubt that this will be one place that we keep visiting over and over again.

What can I say , good place, food , nice people . Our trip started out great, but at times things can turn upside down. We had to leave the property unfortunately as there was a death in the family and this is where all the good stuff seems to have gone to the drain. Sharing this coz I think the jungle retreat Waynad needs to be a lot more clear with customers while communicating and not just blurt stuff and then forget. As we had to leave urgently next morning, we had asked if the amount we had initially paid (balance) can we kept as credit so we can come back and explore this place which we really wanted to, Manu who works there said sure the credit will be available after checking with his owners. Now after 3weeks later when we connected with them to plan and go back…… Surprise surprise that statement does not exist, Prasad who handles their booking had no clue and when you try & speak to manu or Prasad they have no clarity !!! What is annoying here is that when JRW committed, they need to know how to honour the same. If it was not possible they should have been clear when we left. We would have never had a issue with the payment. It’s super pissing off that as we had to head back due to an emergency and we thought once things settle we would be happy to come back here these kind if unexpected statements are made . Would like to tell the owners , while you have a nice place, do bring a little bit of professionalism with your business. We would never come back here again or even suggest it to anyone . There are tons of places in Bandipur or masinagudi wherre we have we multiple times and we have never faced these kind issues even thou travel during Covid times were tough. Last I learnt the hard way but always keep everything in writing . This is my advise to all who travel here.

Hello Rohit, Firstly, sorry to note that you had a bad experience post your check out. Since you have written in length about what went wrong, and how unprofessional the staff was, let me also add a few points from my side because I was there when this happened. Maybe you do remember, you were presented with a bill at checkout that exceeded your advance, and you had mentioned to Manu that since you were checking out a day in advance, he could keep the advance to cover for the last minute change in plans, remember? I was there at the time of checkout wishing you well and we didn't think it was the appropriate time to what you said in writing - wish we did. And I believe even after all this, when you reached out to Prasad, he offered you a free stay next time, considering that you came highly recommended by a dear guest of ours, but you didn't want it and you wanted a full refund! I was going through the WhatsApp messages and that is what I see here. Anyway, I don't want things to turn into a finger-pointing exercise, you have your reasons to post this review here and I have mine to think it was unwarranted and unfortunate. Past is past, we will absolutely improve wherever we can and whenever you are ready to visit us again, we'd be happy to welcome you. Regards Ani Jungle Retreat Wayanad 9742565333

Though, we visit many places I don’t have a habit of writing reviews. But after staying at Jungle retreat I made it a point to write this review. Our original plan was to stay two days only. But after spending two days we extended our stay for one more day. I have summarised my views as per my order of priority. Location 1. The main advantage is the location of the property. Excellent view from the cottages that will make you stand still without any movement to observe and enjoy the wild life in front of you. If you expect a luxurious stay, this place may not suit you. This place is ideal for people who are interested in watching wildlife from the balcony as well as through the safaris. Calm and serene location is really mesmerising , with all the unknown birds chirping around you all day long. Food 2. Food was really delicious and lipsmacking and no food items were repeated during our stay of three days. Of course, needless to say it was hygienic. After dinners we were served with freshly cut fruits which was superb and in natural taste. About the Rooms 3. Rooms were neat and clean. I suggest the management to have few more charging points and toilet's latch to be repaired. And, in toilets, shampoo can be added along with soap bars. From our room, we watched wild animals such as hundreds of deers, peahens, peacocks, wild boars and elephants. Staff 4. Really polite and courteous. The person who took us to safaris and trekking (Mr.Manu) was having good knowledge about wildlife and had patience to answer our queries. One night, the owner of the property (Mr.Ani) himself took us to the night safari which ended up in a very thrilling and memorable way to us. We saw three different herds of elephants and a single bull elephant. He has immense knowledge of wildlife and was capable of smelling the presence of elephant herds at a precise distance, that too from a moving car. All the trekking and safaris are completely safe. Overall experience I strongly recommend this place for those who want to get rid of noisy traffic and bustling cities. Great stress buster. We felt at home, as all the staff treated us (including Mr & Mrs Ani) with a personal touch of hospitality. We are greatly impressed and are longing to visit this place again. Even after our return, the memories of this place keeps circling in our minds.

I grew up reading stories and listening from my dad about Anderson, Corbet, Kipling and it felt as though I am living in those ages where animals roamed freely. The beautiful forest views in the morning, the chital and bison grazing calmly in the grassland, then suddenly disturbed by the alarm calls, the large Elephant herd we saw from the room was all special. The knowledge staff has along with their interest in sharing their experiences gave it a homely feel. Mr. Ani amazed us with his knowledge about wildlife, the way he interacted with wildlife was at times unbelievable. I think the animals see him as part of the forest. Activity list was unending but we had only 2 days and we did trekking, camping, campfire and night drive. All were supergood. I also have to thank to cook for feeding us with some amazing fingerlickin food. We all have added on a few kilos that we have to shed. :) They have the cutest private pool and we spent a lot of time frolicking there. Private pool in the wild, what more can we ask for. Special few days spent in the Jungle @ Jungle Retreat Wayanad. I have always wanted to own some land where animals are seen, I may not be able to buy it soon, but I felt at home at Jungle Retreat, and I hope it becomes my second home. Also, we were 4 girls in our 20s and it is not easy to find a wild yet safe place. After a lot of research we decided on this place. We took most of the activities and even camped one night in the tower, yes the jungle is a scary place more so when we saw Tiger from tower when camping, but we never felt unsafe in anyway. Thank for Jungle Retreat Wayanad team for preserving this wild heaven and making it safe for animals and humans to enjoy. Love Reena

This is my second visit to jungle Retreat, by which it’s evident that this place calls you back, First one was with friends and family, a trip which concentrated on wildlife, after having so much exciting events at Bandipur , we went here , and you know what they just poured fuel on the fire of excitement and curiosity and burned it further. So close to the nature and forest they have established the resort, the ambience alone is worth a visit. Rooms are well maintained and spacious , with sit out , sit there and observe for the movements of wild animals Such a friendly staff and very good housekeeping Manu will take you through that part of wild life and animal behaviours you never knew before , if you are so lucky then anil sir also will be there Amit’s cooking skills can’t be explained in words , so delicious food they provide you with Kumar Bhai Will be there for anything you need. Relax yourself on the chair in the sit out and observe for the movements and sounds of the forest life. Speaking about the activities, in the morning they’ll take you for a trekking through the forest , my first experience was incredible, we ended up so close to a tiger with a kill, and I was again lucky to hear One of the Most Beautiful sounds in the Jungle, TIGER’S roar, he was warning us to stay away from his meal. They’ll arrange / book nagerhole National park and tiger reserve safari if you are interested, this is where I sighted so many animals which I had seen in books and televisions only. Night safari taken by them in there vehicle again provided me with sightings. Another superb activity is a dinner with campfire under the moonlight on a riverside stream, something very romantic, is why I opted it as one of my honey spot also. This time they suggested me to visit the nearby kalanthi river, that dip I took in the stream was just refreshing. Also Tholpetty is near to where you stay, you can go for safari there also, no need to book in advance, directly book from the ticket counter. Recently they’d started a new activity called Camping, which’s you staying a night at the jungle , I was so eager for this, but I didn’t get it due to some permission issue, Now, even my wife’s so much excited about wildlife. Team Jungle Retreat, you guys does an excellent job, keep it up and I’ll be visiting back on my next vacation. NB: Activities depends on the package you choose.

Jungle Retreat Wayanad is an all time favourite place of mine and now in a single visit, it has become my wife’s favourite too.! We decided to celebrate our first anniversary with our family in JRW. We stayed there for 5 nights and each day was a fantastic and an un-forgettable experience. We spotted lots of Elephants, Gaurs, and Deer on the side of the road during our sunset drives on the Thiruneli road! The famous half tail visited the farm twice during our stay! On the eve of our anniversary, as we were returning from the Kalpetta market, we saw an animal crossing the road, trying to place itself low and cross the road quickly. We were around 75 feet away on the road. As we came closer and stopped the car, we realised that it was a beautiful sub adult leopard! It crossed the road, waited on the side, looked back at us and quickly rushed again into the woods. Leopards are very rare to spot and we were extremely lucky to have spotted one.! It’s a memory for life! On the last day we decided to experience the self drive in the morning through Nagarhole National Park. Half way through, where there is a small school, just before that, we spotted a huge bear standing in centre of the road. Seeing us get closer the bear ran into the bushes. Had not expected to see the bear at around 8:45am in the morning. A little ahead we spotted a pack of Dholes. Three on the left side and two on the right side of the road. They were probably preparing to hunt, but since stopping your vehicle inside Nagarhole National Park is not allowed, we had to continue driving. Anil and Anju are extremely friendly & superb hosts! Incredibly happy & lucky to have got a chance to be friends with you both! Special thanks to you all for making our anniversary so special..!! Manu, Kumar, Ajith, Amit form a great team. They take good care of all the Guests. JRW team wear their masks at all times and maintains distance while interacting with everyone. Cottages are nice and clean. JC2 has recently been renovated and made more spacious. Food served is exceptionally good. It’s been two weeks since we returned, and I have already started to miss the place! Regards, Rukhshad.

This was my first visit to my Jungle Retetrat in 2021. You've read it right 'My Jungle retreat'. A few things never change over time not just wine but also Jungle Retreat. It's quaint yet there's something new every single time I am here. Just got back yesterday, but seems like light years have passed. The food is probably just about that level before you start chewing up your fingers rather than licking it. With regards to Anil Uncle and Anju Aunty they're the best hosts one can every dream about. Passionate about the Wild and always game for a story irrespective of it being a Common Tiger butterfly or a Royal Bengal Tiger itself. This is a perfect place for a wild hide and seek with wildlife. Don't be disappointed it's not necessary that only if you see the Tiger it has seen you. It was well aware of your presence before your mind could trace it presence in your vicinity. Chuck your phones, laptops and televisions aside and get used to chirps, calls and the a variety of endemic and non endemic flora and fauna around you. I can assure you once thing that the breeze here is much more cooling than a 1 Ton Air Conditioner. Wholly worth the money and Jungle Retetrat wayanad is indeed a healthy addiction.
