It is a stream side plantation resort with homely atmosphere and owned by the Doctor's family with THREE STAR facilities. Situated near the national highway (only 150 m away from the National Highway 212, which connects Bangalore to Calicut) but away from all the noise and pollution. Our eco friendly resort is situated in a lush green spice garden facing the famous Edakkal caves and the Padiri rock, which towers above our resort. Our resort is also bordered by a placid stream.

Have just returned from a fantastic trip to Wayanad and having relied so heavily on the reviews on Trip Advisor, I wanted to add one myself!
Having searched endlessly for days for somewhere with a good location that was nice but not too expensive to stay, my wife found the Sunbird Garden Resort.
We stayed there a few weeks ago and were extremely impressed by the level of service, cleanliness, comfort and interesting atmosphere inside Coffe plantaion. We were picked up at the Bus stop promptly by the staff. Their breakfast, which is included, is magnificent. We could not believe how excellent this experience was for the very reasonable price.

On our last day our Bus to Bangalore was at 11PM and resort manager droped at our bus stop ( the resort is a 30 acre plantation and one end touch the national highway that connect Calicut to Bangalore- 5 Hrs.)

On a more general note I would highly recommend the Night Safari trips (we used open jeep which was superb) and a visit to the tranquil area inside resort, near to stream which we fell in love with!

Hi,

I am Priya from Bangalore and we are in the Jewellery business. We decided to escape from our busy schedule for a few days 'far away from the madding crowd' and chose Ooty and Wayanad last month. After a pleasant stay at Ooty we reached Wayanad and headed to the trusted Sunbird Garden Resort. This, by the way, was my fourth visit to the Sunbird Garden Resort,Wayanad.

We reached the Sunbird earlier than expected. We saw a large group of about 60 tourists already at the resort. I was worried whether we would get accommodation, but the Aunty (Who is running the resort) came to us and she recognized us. Somehow she arranged a cottage for my father and mother and a bamboo cottage for our family. She noticed that we were tired and arranged our lunch quickly. Thanks for the great Vegetarian meal that she served. My parents also felt good with the meal. She also remembered that we were Brahmins.

I recall my first visit to the Sunbird Garden. It was on my birthday.Aunty and the resort staff made the necessary arrangements for all of us including the cake. It was a memorable stay of my life and we then stayed at the tree house. The stay will be cherished by all of us forever. Even my 5 year old son Nithin is very fond of the place and in fact we offer him a visit to the Sunbird Garden Resort if he fares well in his exams. My son and my husband especially enjoy the fishing at the small stream adjoining the resort.

I am looking forward to the next visit to the Sunbird Garden Resort in the month of April after my Son's examinations.

It was my first trip to Wayanad. Heard about the resort from one of my friend and contacted the Resort Manager Berny who was an excellent companion for us for our entire trip. We enjoyed the fresh air as well as the hospitality of the staff. The food they served was so tasty .
In short we all enjoyed the stay at Sun Bird Garden Resort.

Stayed here for a day. Staff did not provide hot water even after multiple followups. Extra mattress provided was old and full of dust. Food was okay. Service was pathetic for the price we paid. Would not reccommend to anyone.

My family comprising of twelve members had the opportunity to stay at the Sunbird Garden Resort at Kolagappara in Wynad Dist. The booking was smooth and was done by a common friend of mine and Sunbird. We booked four luxury cottages and two bamboo huts for our stay. As soon as we reached there we saw the rooms and it was smelly, so asked the staff to open all the windows and spray air fresheners. They did, I must add that they have friendly staff (the attending boys especially). The resort by itself was located in a small coffee estate. The place was peaceful with a brook running across the estate. FInally it was decided that the elderly people would be staying in the luxury cottages while the younger people in the bamboo cottages. The nightmare started when a little after we checked in. There was no water in the taps and had to call numerous times to the reception to get water. It turned out that the taps were faulty and they had to call a plumber to fix it. The elderly people staying at the luxury cottages had to face the brunt of it all, all no water at all , all through the night. Early morning my mother had to go to the reception and plead with them that there is no water and then did they realize that the overhead tank was empty. Water finally came and it was non usable as it was very muddy. The bon fire they made was good and was a pleasant experience. After that we were served dinner near the small pool they had. We had specifically told them about the the elderly people in the family and salt has to be minimal. They made sure they added more salt in the food. Anyways we managed through it all and the next day was horrors or horrors. After our breakfast , we requested the staff at the office to prepare the bills as we wanted we decided to vacate and go back home. My brother and myself went to the reception and spoke to the person in charge there about the water problem, etc. There was a lady too sitting there and looked like cook, but she spoke authoritatively. So the in charge told as that she was the owner. So we told her the problems. She just started fuming and scolding her staff. All she wanted to hear good things about her place. So my sister told her it was not fair after all the hardships faced by the elders to charge the total amount. She said she would beat us up if we didn't pay the whole amount. All the other staff was good and understood the situation. She was so rude to the elders and threatened them with dire consequences. We finally paid up which was initially agreed upon by the person we booked the resort. We got it in writing too on the receipt. Today I get a call from the DSP's office saying that the lady has lodged a complain against us, that we were rude and didnt pay the bill. Anyways the personnel from the DSP office will be meeting me on tuesday and I will complete the review after the meeting with the DSP's men.

After visiting this resort on April 2018, I clearly understood the above quote and I regret on our selection of this resort just by reading the online reviews and photos, with out checking with any friends in Wayanad.

For someone who is not Residing in India, the best way to choose and book holiday resort is by online. I have done the same thing, found this resort on trip advisor, and their reviews on every site were quite satisfying. So contacted them directly, asked to send me the latest pictures through WhatsApp. They send me the same pictures which is given here on the website and said everything is in same condition. Then asked me to transfer 2000 INR as an advance towards booking. I have transferred it to their bank and waited.

When we have reached there the condition of the resort was so terrible and I haven’t been to a resort in such a bad condition. Totally opposite to what I have expected with the pictures they send me. The cottage was not at all clean. For a surprise to us none of the cottages are air-conditioned and even the fan was not working on that cottage which was allotted to us, as none of them are air-conditioned I don’t know how to survive with out a fan during hot summer. Pool in front of the highlighted pool view cottage was dirty and instead of fish you can find Frogs in it (Might be a unique feature/ variety way to surprise the gust again).

If we stand outside the cottage for few minutes the mosquitos will not bite but will start to eat covering you.

Swimming Pool
Then the condition of the swimming pool was so dirty as you can see the Green slime water in the picture attached. I don’t think in the near future it got cleaned and in a day or two the water in a swimming pool will not turn dirty and green like this.

My Plan was to Stay there for 2-3 Days, and to visit other places of interest in Wayanad. Every thing got ruined because of this bad selection. I have asked them why you have cheated us by sending Old /Photoshop edited images with out showing the actual images. They didn’t have an answer to that. I have asked them to refund the amount I paid as an advance towards my booking, as I don’t want to get sick by staying in such a bad un-tidy environment like this.

The person who was there as an in-charge was saying only one thing to all my query, either I can stay there or can take 50% of my advance (ie 1000 INR) and vacate. For someone who’s with family and don’t want to make a quarrel the best option was to take the 50% and leave. The person didn’t even bother to give a receipt for that.

Loosing 1000 rupees is not big issue but they simply cheated us by providing the fake information via telephone and WhatsApp.

From my experience, I feel like many of the previous reviews are not Real or Up to date and I am writing this as I don’t want to misguide any travelers to Wayanad and ruin their holidays by making the same mistake I did. These are the facts which I have experienced few Weeks back. Please be wise on your selection.

Thank you!

PS: With the help of my friends in Wayanad, I found another good resort in Vythiri the same evening and shifted to there.

Dear Aravind MG, We are deeply sorry for the discomfort and dissatisfaction you had to face from our resort at the time of April you have visited. and we don't understand why you need to post this after 5 months of your visit. Any way thanks for letting us know the drawbacks of our resort. The Photos you have posted is not the place we have allotted you to stay in fact none of the guests stays there and we don't know what situations exactly happened at that time, but we would like to apologize behalf of the staff and management at the time of your visit . After your visit we have re-modified and have done maintenance works including change of Staff. Amount the Swimming Pool we do change the water everyday nowadays and bore well water is used to refill the pool. During rainy days its not possible to keep the water from turning green since its not a indoor pool. And so we inform the guests about situation. Our resort offers a forest like appearance , which is situated in middle of a large scale coffee plantation, so its not possible to avoid mosquitoes completely, but resort has taken action to reduce it. Wayanad is situated in Western ghats and it offers a natural cooling climate during summer. And as we said due to forest like appearance ,we don't need air conditioners in our resort. If you had stayed for a day you would have understood that and our resort is Eco Friendly now a days. Pool side cottage has been renovated , since we don't use the pool in front of those cottages anymore. Its now been used as fish pond. We would like to apologize once again for the discomfort from our side . Hope in future we could serve you with great hospitality to overcome the drawbacks of last time visit. Thanking you, General Manager

After reading the reviews I zeroed on this resort....The room is called luxurious but I have no idea why I have thicker mattresses than it in my home it was may be 3 inch mattress, it looks very shabby, the rooms windows can be opened without any effort from outside so no security at all, no AC, sometimes the water doesnt come and sometimes so so slowly, no toileteries were provided except two soaps and a towel I got blasted by wifey for not bringing shampoo and toothpaste glad I carried toothbrush atleast. The food was very horrible not even eatable and for 180 per person Not sure how people are praising it. The resort to move around is very small and you dont want to go in jungle and get attacked by insects. The rooms are made in such a manner that when someone was speaking outside even in cottage 4 we can hear till cottage 1 also one rooms TV sound reaches and irritates the other cottage person. The Staff are very very very hospitable and the owner very humble and a very nice person.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback on our resort during your three days stay with us. Having had the opportunity to investigate this in detail. We are really sorry to note that there were certain services at our resort that did not meet your expectations and your feedback has already been taken up with my team for necessary improvements. Our budgeted luxury eco-resort have only 3 star facilities. We remember about your stay with mother, brother and wife in two pool side cottages. Also noted you have not used our free facilities such as swimming pool, camp fire with music, boating, fishing, plantation visit, etc... We rectified the security issue of window within 10 minutes after reading your comment. If it pointed out us during your 3 days stay then we can assure your safety and security. December month was peak season here and resort was running in full fledge at that time. Rooms and cottages are scattered across 13 acre coffee, cardomom and pepper plantations for maximum privacy and calmness. Only four cottages beside swimming pool for those who need to stay close. Here no air conditioner is required even in summer season. The food is prepared under the direct supervision of owner, wife of a doctor, who loves to cater tasty and hygienic food to guest and even for staffs. In every reviews one can easily find the comments of our food. Local hotels charge more than 200 for dinner. Our Buffet dinner includes soup and salad, chappathi/paratha and one rice item (Jheera, ghee, fried rice...), one non-veg and two veg curry, one dessert item. For complementary breakfast includes bread butter jam, one south Indian/north Indian item, semia uppuma and tea/coffee. It is our constant endeavor to provide our guests with authentic hospitality and your positive comments are reflective of that. In the end, I can only regret your comments on our resort and hope to welcome you back another time. Yours sincerely, Kiran.C.G. General Manager

Recently back from my trip @ Wayanad! Wayanad as a tourist destination is a wonderful place...a real get-away from the hustle of the metro. We have fallen in love with Wayanad. But the sad part of it was our stay. Since it was the peak holiday season, we rushed in for this hotel. Must say it was our bad luck that we went in for this place to stay. The hotel was a spoilsport. The road is soooo horrible down to the place. They call this hotel a resort but it barely has any facilities of a resort. A lot dingy after dusk. It rained while we were there and the whole place was so messy coz the plot where our room was, is similar to a football ground--totally flat. The pool, in fact is not a pool, got filled with the eroding soil.
The food 'n' hospitality part, was just so-so. The staff do come when called in for but they hardly know what to do when asked for. Poor guys! Most times, it was Kerala type of food which did not suit us. They should also serve somethings for people who do not want the Kerala style. Overall, it's just an average hotel in most ways. Maybe, going by the reviews posted previously here, I expected a bit above average. :(
A note for all going to this hotel: Do not except privacy coz the rooms are too close to one another and same is the case with their 'pool'.

Well another case where the reviewer has not not respoded to the queries making us believe that this is not a genuine review. By the way there are no ROOMS as claimed by the reviewer and all our dwellings are independent cottages set apart from others unlike a 'hotel'. Not withstanding the suspect veracity of this review we will endeavour to make our service the best and prmise you a very pleasnt stay here. Thanks

I had been to this Resort and stayed from 27th JAN 2012. to 29th Jan 2012. I stayed in a luxury cottage with charges 3500 per day. The cottage was clean but we found a Big Spider and a small spider and there was also few big black ants. The Room was cold in the night and there was no provision for AC or room Heater. I was with my wife and my 5 years old daughter and 1year old son and so it was difficult to manage without heater or AC.The cot provided was just enough for 2. On requesting they could not provide a extra cot but gave an extra bed.The TV in the room was a small portable TV and the remote was also not working. They took 1 day to replace the remote. The food was not good for vegetarian as I am a vegetarian. Moreover the did not have different dining halls for veg and non veg. My wife could not bear the smell of fish and was abt to vomit. On request the food was provided in the room but my wife had to request for bread as she could not eat the same.
The location and the surroundings was quite good full of greenery and the staff were cooperative
