The Holiday Inn Resort Galveston - On The Beach is celebrated for its ocean views and balcony access, though some guests have concerns about room cleanliness and dated decor. The staff is lauded for their exceptional service, contributing to the hotel's vibrant atmosphere, which comes to life with live music and entertainment.
The pristine heated pool and family-friendly activities alongside prime beachfront location make this IHG hotel a hit, despite mixed feelings regarding the extra costs for breakfast and parking.

Hotel's Favourite
Just arrived for a get-a-way break with my wife. This will be our 4th visit here. Although slightly aged, the property ‘s location is excellent, well kept, and convenient to most attractions, plus it’s right across from the beach with great views. Additionally the rooms are comfortable, the beds are great and the bathroom amenities are very good. We were greeted by “John” at Reception who made us feel “at home” and valued right away….throughout the checkin process he was friendly, outgoing, and both professional & personal !!

The hotel was ok, the staff was very friendly. I liked that the front desk people texted to see if we needed towels etc so no one was barging in your room hollering “house keeping” when we chose to slept in. The only thing I didn’t like was the location of our room on the first floor next to the elevators and people going in and out of the pool areas, then the birds were super loud in the mornings as well. I guess I could have asked for another room we toughed it out and used it as an alarm to get up 😒. Others location was great, right across the street from the beach. Hard to get out sometimes bc traffic is heavy so just gotta make your way through sometimes. Would I stay there again possibly but nothing really separated the hotel from possible cheaper ones all on the Seawall.

Recently, I visited Galveston, TX with my family. Although we live just north of Houston, TX, we have always enjoyed visiting the coastal regions of Texas, especially Galveston. Because I am an IHG member, I chose the Holiday Inn Resort, which is located right across the street from the beach.
We arrived at the hotel around noon. Being tired from the drive down and wanting to unload the car, I went to the front desk and asked if we could check in early (I called the day prior regarding early check in and they added that note to my room reservation). The front desk associate was more than happy to allow us to check in early (normal check in time is 4pm). Although the two main guest elevators were at the rear of the property, luggage carts were available to make the trip to the room effortless.
After check-in, I was notified via a text message on my phone. During the stay, I received one initial introductory message and one message near the end of my stay asking for a rating. I felt this was a nice touch and an easy way to let the hotel staff know if you require assistance.
Our room on the fifth floor had a nice view of the beach as well as the pool. During our short stay in Galveston, we spent a good deal of time at both. The pool was very large, had a kids area, a waterfall feature, deep and shallow areas. Our 18 month old had a blast playing in the pool. Although there were over a dozen guests at the pool, it did not seem crowded. Towels were conveniently available in the corridor near the pool. A friendly associate from the hotel would routinely make rounds to take drink orders.
We were able to use the crosswalk right in front of the hotel to get to the beach. Because we were so close to the beach, we did not have far to carry all our belongings. The close proximity to the beach also made it a short trip back to the hotel when we forgot something.
The hotel was conveniently located within walking distance of IHOP and Rainforest Cafe. Kroger was also close to the hotel, although not walking distance if you planned to carry multiple bags or a case of water bottles. Parking at the hotel was straightforward (hang a pass from the rearview mirror) and there were plenty of parking spaces available.
Overall, I feel this hotel is a great value and made for a memorable trip.

Our family of 7 Stayed here for a weekend 6–26-2020 during the pandemic. There was Limited food service and the kid arcade and club were closed. Still it’s a wonderful hotel.
Front staff were nice and helpful. Checkin was easy. Social distancing and mask wearing required while in public parts of the hotel except for the pool area. Parking is plentiful and easy ($8 per vehicle).
We had a connecting king and double queens. Our connecting door would not open on one side but the hotel staff fixed that within an hour of our calling. Beds were comfortable and air conditioning was cooling well. Bathroom was standard but the shower head was large with excellent pressure and hot water. My only issue is the toilet is super Low to the ground; not good for those of us with bad knees. There was no room cleaning during the day (due to the virus) but towels are brought on request and trash can be left outside your room for pickup. Elevators are plentiful and quick.
We loved the pool and hot tub. Plus you can get warmed pool towels! We could have left the beach towels at home as we hit the beach first then the pool then dried off with their towels before going back to our rooms. The beach crosswalk is directly in front of the hotel so super easy for those of us with little ones. Coming back from the beach, there is a foot rinse in front of the pool area. We found it odd we had to walk through the lobby/bar or through the room alley to get to the pool entrance. Not a biggie though. Another perk is the pool bathroom: it’s directly by the pool in front of the childproof gate. The bar can be accessed from the pool area also. We ordered food and drinks from there and ate pool-side. Food was really good and reasonably priced. The full menu is not available due to the pandemic. We didn’t have their breakfast so I can’t attest to that. Plan on going somewhere super early though if you eat elsewhere because the waits even at McDonald’s was soooo long for breakfast
This hotel will be my go-to place to stay the next time we are in town for sure. Kudos to the staff!

There was confusion at check in about the type of room we request, but was quickly solved by Christina. Staff (front desk, restaurant and bar) is very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our stay. The rooms could use a little attention (i.e. baseboard in bathroom coming apart, dresser missing a drawer) and they need to do a better job with cleaning. They have done an ok job on disinfecting and sanitizing during this pandemic. We brought our own sanitizing wipes etc. The hair dryer in our room had some substance all over it (looked like makeup) so we requested a new one. The new one didn't work. The front desk clerked handed me the pen he was using, I gave it back when done and he handed it to the next guest. It was not sanitized. These are serious concerns. Overall our stay was good. Food was good and access to the beach was great.

We had a very positive overall experience during our stay. The registration/front staff was very helpful and very efficient during our check in, and gave us a good sense of safety during this pandemic. The hotel is in a very good location within walking distance to a lot of activities and with the beach being across the street, you cant beat that. Now for the things that could have been better: We were in a non smoking room which the entire facility is non smoking to my understanding, but almost the entire time we were in our room during the first day, the people on the floor above us clearly were smoking on their balcony due to the falling ash that would be carried into our balcony from the wind and the obnoxious smell of the cigarette. As far as the cleanliness of the room, it could have definitely been better but I figured that the housekeeping staff is sanitizing the rooms due to covid very well that they could be overlooking this detail. Both my wife and I enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning later this year.

Hotel was good. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Customer service good when asked for more towels and shampoo. Had to call to have garbage removed and to have balcony swept. Main problem during stay was there was no menu for hotel restaurant in the room. There was no extra booklet with suggestions on places to eat, things to do etc. Places closed early due to Covid. We understood this might be the case. Ok. So it was hard figuring out what to eat and which places were open. Our last night, we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant and order meals to go to eat in the room. When we went inside to order, it was super loud. The bartender told us the menu online wasn't valid, and showed us a menu with a choice of basically 5 or 6 items that were not suitable for dinner. The menus for the restaurant are still displayed in the elevator as well so we thought they had a full menu. It was almost 10pm. So we had to race to our room from the pool, get dressed quickly, and jumped in car to Chilis which was still open later. They had a full menu thank goodness because we were starving. Another complaint was the kids allowed in the hot tub. At one point, a family of 11 was in there, way longer than time posted and their small kids kept jumping in and out and jumping off the top. Signs were posted, people didn't care. There was no monitoring of this and another couple was also trying to enjoy the hot tub and got out. The manager said they will consider limiting the age but overall he said they couldn't do anything about it. Wow.
The restaurant also had karaoke and dancing, and basically was a bar/club. It was not a place suitable for families with kids unless you ordered from their tiny menu and ate at the pool or in your room. The music inside was blasting and for that, I was disappointed. Considering there was limited hours for restaurants and many families around, they could have posted the limited menu in rooms with the hours, and not made their only eating options fries and wings in a loud karaoke bar.

This was our family’s second time at this hotel for our annual summer vacation and it was an even better stay than before. We were a little worried with COVID that we wouldn’t be able to enjoy it as much but it was amazing. More exciting for us was that Brandon, the hotel manager was able to put all of our rooms together so we could all hang outside of our patio together and enjoy more family time. The pool was so clean and kept. Rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Everywhere you turned employees were cleaning up or wiping areas down for guests. Anytime we needed more of anything housekeeping brought it right down for us. The parking lot has a ton of parking and is well lit so you don’t have to worry. The bar and cocktail staff were very attentive to pool guests. We love the live music at the bar! We stayed 4 nights in this hotel and wish we had more time to stay. It made our family vacation that more enjoyable. Thank you to all the staff and especially Brandon. We look forward to seeing you next year!

I struggled as a mom whether or not to take my family on vacation during Covid. But we made the decision to go with caution. I can not tell you how relieved I was to smell bleach when we walked in our hotel room! Everything was clean and sanitized! Every tine we walked down the lobby, the staff was ALWAYS cleaning the doors, windows, door handles etc. And everyone wore a mask in the lobbies. It made us feel safe. The staff was also very nice and friendly. I highly recommend!

We stayed over the labor day weekend. Our room had a problem with the plaster falling from ceiling. Fortunately, the Maintenance Engineer, Reuben, was seen in the hall and asked to please check on the room's issue.
He immediately checked on the problem, removed the remaining plaster, cleaned up after himself, and called maid service to have the room cleaned and beds remade.
I was very impressed with his concern for my problem and wanting to fix the issue to my satisfaction. I offered him a tip, but he refused telling me it was not necessary.
Great job Rueben.. thank you again for great service.

I would be surprised if the pool will be warm enough to swim in January. There is a bar that is indoor and outdoor that you can have drinks and overlook the ocean/beach and I think they had propane heaters for the cool days/nights as well.
Afternoon,
Thank you for inquiring. Yes, we have multiple restaurants within walking distance ranging from Mexican, American, and seafood options. Please ask the front desk at check in for a walking map and recommendations
Good afternoon,
