I've stayed at this hotel twice the first time was during Spring Break (March 12-13) which we had a good experience. Not the second time we stayed (April 11). Whoever the man is at the front desk (older Indian man with glasses and mustache) was very condescending. First when I requested the room I asked for a non-smoking/clean room due to my 3 year old having severe allergies. When giving me a room he ran down the procedure of being charged of fee of anyone smokes in the room to which I was ok with (I don't smoke) I answered yes I am okay with that right away and his smart a** remark was "Oh so you're that sure you're not going to smoke in the room huh?" I gave him a look and then he asked if I preferred any floor. (I got a room with a balcony) I told him it didnt matter as long as my kids enjoyed the view. He have me ROOM 138 a room with a view of sand/dirt and construction workers!! I immediately walked out the room and asked for another room. Why would you give me that room? His response "oh kids dont care about that stuff" (wtf) Then grilled me if I touched anything in the room or did anything to the room when we literally were in the room for less than 60 seconds. then LIED and told me he was fully booked there was no other rooms available (Wait he just asked me preference of room choice 5 minutes prior!! Then he gave me room 137 which is a view of the parking lot, dumpster (see pictures) He had no idea i had been to the hotel on Spring Break and from the parking lot (see pictures) I knew this hotel was not booked and full. So I was lied to and disregarded. I was so pissed off with his lack of customer service and off-putting remarks we left that night. I will never spend another penny at that place.

With high hopes for this hotel, we were highly disappointed with what we found. The first room we were in had mold all over the walls and smelled very strongly of mold. We pulled out the bed to look behind and found it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Dust, garbage, etc all over behind the bed. The walls had cracks and there were missing pieces along the wall trim.

After speaking with the front desk and requesting a different room, they gave us their last room available which did not have the mold smell and was much cleaner than the first. The front desk staff was very helpful and courteous.

Breakfast left a LOT to be desired. The options we had were mini muffins, sliced bread, and waffles. Only decaf coffee was available. With such a large breakfast area one would think it would be much better taken care of.

Overall, this hotel appears to be covering up the issues that they have instead of repairing them properly and I would not stay here again nor recommend it to others. Next time I will pay more to stay in a more maintained hotel.

I don't normally write reviews, but in this case, I felt I had to. Upon check in, we asked for restaurants close by for dinner. The young girls at the desk said there was a steak & seafood place on the pier just down the road (seafood & burgers only actually, I don't eat seafood). We asked about other places, advised we could walk down to 2 sets of lights, there might be something down there. We did walk...approx. 2 miles to find a Sonic, Golden Coral & BBQ pit stop. That's it unless we wanted to continue walking! The rooms were clean but pretty bare ...no coffee maker or anything. In all our years of travel, I have never been at a hotel that did not have coffee makers in the rooms. There were no maps of the area at the front desk, so walking around was figuring it out on our own. Breakfast was dismal at best. The waffle maker did not work properly, so waffles were burnt as there was no light or buzzer to indicate when they were cooked. Yogourt came from a machine (which had run out on Sunday morning). Bread ran out at 8:30am, some ppl were asking for it. 3 cereal choices of which 2 were empty on the Saturday morning. When we checked out, we asked to leave out luggage for an hour so we could go for a walk down the beach before heading on the cruise. Unfortunately they won't store your luggage! They don't offer a shuttle to the cruise port. I booked this based on it being a Best Western Hotel as we prefer this chain. However we were advised when we got there, they are no longer a Best Western - under new management...and that was clear. It would never meet the Best Western requirements. Had we known, I would not have booked this hotel. There is nothing around for restaurants, we had to Uber or walk 3-4 miles. Front end staff were not knowlegable on the area or even what was going on in Galveston. (we heard about The Strand district by an Uber driver). I would never stay here again or recommend it. It was too far from anything and next time I would pay the extra few dollars & stay closer to the downtown area of Galveston.

The only reason this hotel got two stars is because it was not infested with roaches. Every thing else was pretty bad. There is black mold everywhere plus the walls and floors are constantly moist. Holes all in the walls in the bedroom AC wasn’t working well at all and it’s October so it’s not even hot. No vents in the restroom so the whole room stinks for a long while if someone uses the restroom.

I booked room through hotels.com.
Upon entering room it smelled moldy, I opened the patio door (which was difficult to open) to let on air.
I observed the paint chipping on the rail of the balcony and the view was of a swimming pool and minimal ocean view.
Went to dinner and came back to continuous running water in toilet, toilet would not flush..went to wash hands in sink and it was clogged with a slow slow drain!
My husband went to front office and he was told that there was no maintenance on site and she handed him a plunger????
Terrible customer service, emailed the owner/mss as manager that night Sat 4/10, 4/11 and 4/12/2021 with no response at all.
This hotel is unacceptable and will be reported to the better business bureau.
Disgusting coffee and continental breakfast is a waffle maker and a few danishes with cold cereal???
Not worth your money!! There is no excuse for poor management of a business that sad Gould provide comfort for paying guests..
I will definitely be staying at another hotel next time I visit Galveston.

We arrived on a Friday evening because the hotel that we had originally reserved had trouble with our payment, and the manager was extremely rude, so we decided to look for a different location, and we happen to go to this hotel. As I walked in, everything was decorated beautifully for Halloween, since this was October. The lady at the front desk immediately assisted me and getting a room. The room was a very comfortable open area room where my father could get around easily with his wheelchair. The lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and very courteous. There was a maintenance guy that was fast and very nice to talk with his name was Gonzalo, there is also a maid with the name Estralita who helped us out several times with extra towels, an extra pillow, and coffee. She did everything with a smile on her face, and she was extremely kind. The breakfast lobby was big, and they offered coffee, oatmeal, they offered scrambled eggs, Gravy with sausage, different types of breads that you can toast, all the condiments you would need, and the classic rotating Belgium waffle maker, one which was designed to make Texas shaped waffles. The rooms were so clean. Their hallways were spotless. I never saw any mold or any insects anywhere inside the hotel. We also had a beautiful balcony that overlooked the neighborhood, we were right adjacent to the fishing piers where we spent most of our time. They have a great parking garage and a beautiful pool with a jacuzzi. Overall, our stay was amazing. I can’t believe we found such a beautiful, affordable place to stay in such short notice. I appreciate everyone at this location. I recommend it to everyone!

On May 20, 2022, I checked in to the hotel. The room really disappointed me because it was very humid inside, and despite that, around 2:00 am, the electricity was shut down. There was no air conditioner working in the room, no electricity, nothing! In the morning, when I finally got to the first floor by stairs because the elevator didn't work, the hotel personnel said there would be no breakfast due to no electricity in the hotel. Therefore, I received only a partial service and had to leave the hotel due to an impossible stay without electricity with no working air conditioner. I tried to contact the hotel manager multiple times, but she was not cooperative. When I booked the hotel, the price on the hotel.com website was listed as $120 + tax per night, but the hotel for the 1st night charged me an unbelievably high price of around $286.35 while the hotel cost $62 + tax per night. After multiple inquiries to the hotel manager, I didn't receive any refund, nor any partial refund. In my case, after two days of driving, the visit to the beautiful Galveston Island was cut unpredictably very short, and I didn't have the chance to explore the island. I decided to write this review so that more people will think twice before booking this hotel. Be smart; you can stay at Hilton Galveston Island Resort for that price!

Avoid - unsafe health environment, very horrible stench on entire second floor, suggestive of mold or fungal, a/c not working, water spilled on floor, clerk claimed only 1 room available right next to ours, had to buy air fresheners and place bath towels on door to try to cover stench. Sleep with patio door open to try to help. Access key stopped working when I was trying to re-enter at 10.30pm, as it failed for other guest. Manager never returns phone messages. Hotel requires TWO day cancellation notice or they will charge you for the night. Hotel.com will not assist consumer

Poor service, rude staff. So I came back from the beach with my family sat at the pool side and one of the staff came over and threaten me to kick me off the property if I didn’t remove the cooler I had hauled with me from the beach. Not a hello or introduction of house rules for not allowing a cooler at the pool. His immediate approach and engagement was “You cannot have a cooler here and I need you to take it to your room right now, if you don’t I will have to kick you out” the meaning of hospitality is not known here. So I got the message loud and clear and though ok, we all have a right to have a bad day. My thought was, I will comply and take it up to my room after I finish my beer and relaxing for a minute. Not 3 minutes went by and the pool guy comes back and says “I told you, that you have to take that cooler out of here right now” Never did it occur to him to introduce me to the house rules and or provide a solution or option etc… so my response to his rudely attitude was “Is that an order”? His egotistical response with a grin was “Yes that is an order” so out the door with souther hospitality and no comen sense of the hospitality business. I will not ever forget this place and how I was treated as a local Houstonian, I will promote this place to all friends and acquaintances (Many) as it is deserving. Owner or equity entity must have deep pockets that negative business impact is negligible. Take care you all, Southern hospitality is prevalent in all of Texas except here.

On the island, there are buses, ubers, cabs etc. "Shuttle" services are mostly aimed at getting cruise passengers to IAH and HOU airports on the mainland. I believe a company, called Super Shuttle, does not require minimums.
