The Galvestonian is designed for pleasure and relaxation. For outdoor fun, the large heated swimming pool, which features a hot-tub Jacuzzi, is elevated on a deck which runs almost the entire length of the building. This affords the privacy you deserve, plus a spectacular view of the Gulf of Mexico. The spacious poolside cabana is quiet, shaded area for enjoying pool side refreshments. For tennis buffs, there are two lighted courts. And, of course, there are miles of beach a few steps down from the pool deck. You can stroll along the water's edge, build sand castles or simply relax on the sand and let the sun's golden rays warm your body. East Beach is the most exclusive beach in Texas. Only 50 minutes from Hobby Airport and only three minutes from downtown Galveston. East Beach is a hideaway which will allow you to escape life's pressures.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed three nights in condo 510 rented through VRBO. We had stayed previously in 914 which we loved and which we booked through the Galvestonian. Short term rentals aren't necdessarily a good buy with VRBO because of all the added charges that you don't see when your browsing its site for a place to stay. You're told at the end, but you see really great price per night and they aren't what you pay.
The resort rentals have certain standards that have to be met which by owner do not. We were very disappointed in the condition of the furniture and how outdated the condo was. We could've gotten a nicer updated condo on Galvestonian's website for about $100 cheaper. The inside of the toilet seat was molded. There was no antiskid on any of the rugs in the condo which we felt was a hazard. The tv picture was snowy which cable is provided by the facility and so it must have been old tvs' Nothing matched - three different lamps in the bedroom.
The bed was very confortable and A/C worked. View is amazing and the resort amenities are great ans since it is on the best beach in the area, that was good, too.
I rated the rooms excellent because the ones we saw managed by the hotel were excellent. Just not the one we stayed in.

Response from Galvestonian20, General Manager at The Galvestonian
Responded 19 Mar 2020
Dear Mimimacaw, Thank you for staying at The Galvestonian Beach Resort and thank you for taking the time to write such an earnest review. We regret you did not enjoy your visit as much you had hoped. The Galvestonian is a beautiful condominium resort where every unit is individually owned with its own charms. Many homeowners trust the Galvestonian to rent and manage their rentals and some rent and manage their rentals on their own via various channels such as VRBO, HomeAway and others, of course, you have a choice, and perhaps next time it might be a different experience though VRBO, or alternatively, by reserving through our website. We thank you for your nice comments about our Galvestonian rental program, amenities and of course our view. We look forward to seeing you back again soon. Sincerely, The Galvestonian Team.

My family stayed at the Galvestonian, Unit 811, from December 29th-January 1st. While the building is one of the older buildings on the island, it has been extremely well maintained. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The pool was heated, and the hot tub was hot! There were pool towels provided by the building as well as sunscreen. That was a nice touch. Throughout the day, the lobby has coffee, hot tea, and hot chocolate for the kids….and adults to act like kids. We made sure to take advantage of the hammocks, the workout room, corn hole and the firepit!
Unit 811 is a beautiful condo. Since we were visiting with several other families, we were able to see other units. This was one of the nicest. The furniture appears to be new and the kitchen is well stocked. There was plenty of room for our family to spread out. The water pressure in the showers was good. This is important to me so I thought I would share. The unit was light and bright, and they even had several board games for us to play. All of this said, the view from the balconies can’t be beat! We will return this summer!

Response from Galvestonian20, Manager at The Galvestonian
Responded 16 Jan 2020
Dear Steven K, Thank you for your lovely review of The Galvestonian Beach Resort. We thoroughly appreciate you taking the time to let everyone know how much you enjoyed your stay. Unit 811 is very cozy and well maintained by not just our staff but the homeowner as well. We take pride in offering the best place to live, work and play in Galveston! While our building does have some age to it, our staff works hard to keep the property well maintained and we are constantly trying to improve. We are currently upgrading all unit windows with hurricane proof glass and resurfacing balconies. The view is already amazing from the balconies but, just wait till you stay with the new and improved windows. We do offer a 24/7 complimentary coffee bar along with pool/beach towels and sunscreen and insect repellent. We want you to enjoy your stay and leave the worries of home/work behind you while you are staying with us. We are happy to hear that you will be returning this summer, we look forward to seeing you then. Thank you

This trip started off with a girls weekend and the 5 of us had a super fun time! Then when the girlfriends left, my husband came to join me for another 3 nights. We felt like the property was very well kept - common areas were all pristinely clean and maintained nicely, and we appreciated that you have to come through the lobby (with the 24 hour manned front desk) and have your key card to enter the elevators. When you walk into the unit, the floor to ceiling glass on the gulf side (they all have gulf side views when you walk in) will blow you away! So SO gorgeous to open the door and see the wide beach and the ocean with absolutely nothing obstructing your view! The pool and hot tub were wonderful, and the pool deck chairs were even comfortable...which isn't always the case at a condo. The staff were all super friendly and helpful when we interacted with any of them, as were the other guests and owners that we encountered at the pool, or in elevators, etc... The beach - wow! It is nice and wide and clean, and this is one of the handful of places you can stay in Galveston that is actually right ON the beach. Walk over the dune and you are toes in the sand. Re: the other folks dissing the resort b/c they don't allow you jam too many into one room, or listen to music at the pool, which forces everyone else at the pool to listen to your music too haha - I think those folks are a little bitter and off base. The Galvestonian is a well appointed and well run property, so if you want a "Girls Gone Wild" atmosphere or plan to pack ten people in one room to save some money, this isn't the place. LOL We all felt relaxed & had so much fun, and we loved that it was 5 minutes to everything in the Strand area, but off the beaten path where you can get away and enjoy your time at the beach or pool. Bring your family, come with girlfriends, or as a couples getaway. One tip: the units are all individually owned, so look at pics to choose one that looks right for your needs. They are all furnished differently, but are uniformly cleaned before your arrival by the Galvestonian housekeeping staff so that is a plus.

In the past I have always recommended The Galvestonian as the best place to stay in Galveston. After this past stay there, I will tell everyone to stay away from it. The new rules are ridiculous. And most (not all) of the management staff are rude and act almost like they get pleasure from treating people like crap.
We typically rent 5-6 condos at a time when we stay there because it is an annual tradition for all our families.
The new green wrist band requirement is just asinine. And if the management team catches you without it expect to be grilled and yelled. My young nephew took his off to swim and not 1 but 2 people from management were standing over him after he got out of the pool arguing with him until he put it on. I saw a manager run after a guest who was walking to the lobby without his wrist band on. The guest was trying to explain that he was on his way up to his room to put it on because he forgot it and the manager refused to let him explain and wouldn't let him leave until he got a new wrist band from the front desk.
Not having drinks around the pool is just crazy. If you have an issue with people spilling their drinks, require having a lid on them. The pool is huge so it is ridiculous that people can't drink by the pool.
Let's talk about pool floats. There has always been a rule about no floats allowed unless they are pool noodles or baby floats. One family in our group had a very young child in her life jacket in the pool. Management refused to let them use the life jacket with the baby float. They had to use one or the other but not both.
Someone yelled loudly off one of the balconies. Management accused one of our families in one of the rooms that her boys did it. None of the boys were in the room at the time but management still argued that the noise came from her room.
Housecleaning...I understand that most places are short staffed. But going from cleaning your room every day to only cleaning if you stay longer than 3 nights and and with a 24 hour notice is too much. In the past when you ran out of towels, they would send someone up with fresh ones. Most days we had to bring the towels down ourselves if we wanted fresh towels. Also they do not have wash clothes anymore! And good luck getting a clean pillow case too. I had to change sheets on one of the beds (because I didn't know I had to request room service 24 hrs in advance) and was told they had a shortage on pillow cases when I got the new sheets.
Sad thing is I could go on and on and on about all the changes because this is only the tip of the iceberg. We still had a lot of fun because we refused to let management ruin our vacation. But The Galvestonian will no longer be our place to stay while in Galveston.

An annual trip to the Galvestonian is a staple in my husbands family. They have been visiting every summer for 35 years. I have been visiting for 10 of them. We have stayed in countless one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom condos. The Galvestonian is dated. Most rentals have small bathrooms and tiny kitchens. We have stayed at nicer, newer and less expensive condos on west beach. What kept us coming back year after year is the amenities, views and friendly staff.
Unfortunately, the Galvestonian no longer feels like home. Staff our flat out rude, maid service is no longer offered, the complex is not kid friendly and the atmosphere just feels tense. You are forced to wear a generic cheap green bracelet at all times to prove you are a renter. They use to offer fruit infused waters, coffees, donuts and snacks. Now they barely have a running ice machine.
Our extended family was kicked out after checking out of their room at 11 am. (Mind you most facilities allow use of amenities the duration of the day after checkout and it is not clearly written in the packet of rules. May want to add that one to the stack.) We still had 6 rooms at the facility but were told they could no longer use amenities or be added to another room. Our 12 year old cousin was yelled at in the pool area and “escorted” to her parents. When her older adult brother protested since she is a minor they basically threatened to call the cops. She hadn’t been rough housing or misbehaving at the pool. On top of that staff had the audacity to say they had to drive down and use public beach access to gather their belongings from the beach. Seriously? They literally look for ways to start fights with rental customers. I’m not sure what the goal is with management changes, but it is obviously not beneficial. I remember in years past they went out of their way to make our family reunions special. Even bringing a larger table for our family to gather in a 3 bedroom.
The Galvestonian use to be the #1 condo rental on the Island. They are now third and will continue to get poor reviews unless the condo owners take action. If the goals of the condo association have changed then maybe consider ending rentals entirely?
Next time you visit Galveston do yourself a favor and steer clear. There are many other options that are a better value and experience. Our recent visit has tainted all those years of fond memories. Unfortunately we won’t be coming back.

We have been coming to the Galvestonian for over 30 years, first as a young couple and then with our grown children and grandchildren. This past visit was a real disappointment. We rented 2 separate condos (spent over $5k) and the rooms were very nice. A small overlooked maintenance issue with the one bedroom…upon arrival, the window shade in the living room was broken so it remained in the closed position until we were able to manually roll it up, with the help of the very prompt maintenance worker. The worker stated since the shades were under warranty, he was unable to fix it!?
Our kids and grandchildren stayed in the beautiful 3 bedroom condo. The second morning we noticed the a/c was struggling to keep cool (72*). A maintenance worker came to the room and stated our a/c was leaking water to the unit below and we would have to turn it off until it could be repaired. Although fans were offered, we were without a/c for a full 24 hours, into the next morning! No discount offered, no contact from management, even though we contacted them several times, in several ways! At checkout we were told by the front desk, the note on our account said there would be no compensation for being without a/c for 24 hours! Unacceptable! Previous management would have given something as compensation for such inconvenience.
Several times during our 5 day stay, we had to have our room keys “rekeyed” because they wouldn’t work for the elevators or our rooms.
Umbrella and chair rental has always been a hassle…forgotten days for setups, lost reservation, etc. Also, chairs are picked up at 5:00pm now under new management! At 5:00pm in the summer, we still have at least 2 hours of beach time! No shade after 5:00pm.
Any contact from management would have gone a long way in helping with the problems we experienced.

The Galvestonian is located on east beach, far away from the crowds in Galveston. It is right on the beach, no trying to cross the busy Seawall Blvd. We had a one bedroom condo on the ninth floor. Great view of the gulf, lovely balcony with chairs and table. Soundproofing was great as construction was going on in the next property, complete with a pile driver banging away 8-5 daily. Once inside the room we never heard it.
The beds were the worst we have ever experienced, and we have travelled all over the world. They were so soft you sunk down several inches when you got in. One electric outlet in the kitchen would not hold a plug, it kept falling out. Hot water was instantly scalding hot, All in all it was not anything special, especially for $325/night in the off season.

We come to Galveston several times a year for family trips. This has been the worst stay of anywhere we have ever stayed in Galveston. We will not be staying here again and we will not recommend it to anyone.
The biggest concern is the lack of communication. We chose a unit that had a washer and dryer pictured so we could laundry during our stay. There was a sign posted that both machines were broken and we were not told beforehand. Each time we asked the front desk we were told "We'll get back with you," but no one ever did.
The worst was the construction. We were staying for 2 full days. On the first day the construction noises in a unit above us were so loud, we couldn't stay in our room. We weren't told of construction happening or work times prior to our check in. We initially thought something was messed up in our unit and we're searching for something to turn off to stop the noise before we were told it was construction. They were working until 4:30. With 2 toddlers, nap is important mid-day and was not possible due to the noise. It completely ruined the day. A simple email prior to check in to let guests know of construction and times could have helped tons the planning of our day and the worry that something could be wrong.
When we asked the front desk and manager if we could switch rooms because of how loud the construction was, we were told "everyone everywhere is complaining of the noise." The noise could not be heard on the lobby or the second floor (we verified with several other guests staying across the second floor). They refused to let us change rooms and gave us the number to the general manager. We still have not heard back from the general manager.
We were told there would be no construction during our second day here. There was hammering in the unit above us that woke us up during our nap time.
If everyone would have just communicated and been honest, we could have resolved our problems and worked around the construction times. Instead we were pushed off to someone else, ignored, and lied to. What we had to deal with here is not worth it for any other positive amenities they may offer.

it would have been nice if the booking staff at the desk informed us that the owner’s other unit he owns was of was connected to ours! Researched to check out photos and furnishings of various units since because some are pretty outdated. Went with unit 804 which has an open floor plan, two balconies and had been updated, white and clean, etc.. However on the other side of a door in the living room the owner is there in his two adjoining units! On Saturday at 9 pm were were enjoying cooking fresh seafood we bought that day and the phone rings. Someone at the desk was calling to tell us to turn down our music! Really? What a buzz kill. So the rest of the trip we felt no sense of privacy and that someone was eavesdropping on every move we made! Beware! Did not care for the white sofa the slid all over the white floor nor the dangerous step up and down of the shower. Won’t be rebooking this one for sure.

We are glad you love East Beach and The Galvestonian. Many guests might be unaware this is a private residence. We have residents who live here full time and owners who visit and want peace and quiet so they can enjoy the sounds of the gulf. Our quiet hours begin at 10pm as noted in the check-in information. Music before 10pm would need to be kept at a reasonable level. We will have the hospitality team check about the security of the sofa. We appreciate you bringing that to our attention. All of our units are individually owned so we have many units to choose from.

My family has been visiting the Galvestonian since 1989.The Galvestonian is a real gem in Galveston. It is a condo hotel. Each room is different because it is decorated and furnished by the unit owners. Each unit has a a balcony and a wonderful beachfront view of the Gulf. The lobby, rooms, and pool are all very clean. The staff is always nice and helpful. There is no restaurant on site. We recently visited during Thanksgiving week. Half of the visitor’s parking lot was partitioned off . This created a problem for parking. During the first part of the week, there wasn’t a problem. By Wednesday afternoon, the parking became a big problem. We could not find a parking space. We had to sit in the parking lot for 20 minutes waiting for someone to leave. My husband went in and talked to the gentleman at the front desk, Homer, he said he would call management but offered no solution. Later, we saw visitors parking downhill in front of the tennis court. They had to walk up the driveway which is uphill to reach the front doors. This was not easy for the elderly or people with knee problems. Due to this situation, we cancelled our reservation for Christmas week. We love the Galvestonian and will return once the parking situation returns to normal. If your reservation is during a holiday or close to a weekend, I would definitely call and check to see if the entire visitor parking is open.

There was 1 Queen Size Bed in the 1-BR unit we stayed in.... Think most of the 2-BR units have 2 Beds (1 in each Bedroom).... some may have a Sleeper Sofa in the living room area.
Hello Molly,
There is a laundry area located on the lobby level free of charge to our guests.
The Galvestonian is not a resort with activity staff. The units are individually owned and rented out by the Galvestonian staff. It's like being at a typical high rise condo with pool, gym, etc. They have bikes for rent and umbrellas and chairs for the beach. It's like home away from home. Bring your groceries, each unit has a full kitchen with all the pots, pans, silverware, etc.
"Be careful they are cutting corners on managing this place. Pool was usable, housekeeping poor, chair & umbrella rental’s contracted out,"Read full review
"Leave your wagon at home. They have plenty of very large wagons you can use to haul your things down to the beach for free. "Read full review
